Damn, this (Kagome's route) was just... overwhelming, I don't think there's need for words.

 

Mayuki is indeed the most enjoyable character I've found in VN, I really missed her calling the reader/Akihito a lolicon, you never know what you have until you lose it.

 

I wonder if I should get a Mayuki avatar... I'll get it after the hype dies down and I'm the only one still into this, that or in the next few days.

Just finished Benio route and I have no idea what you're talking about. This game's impression of "romance" is like a bad joke.

 

Well, that aside, there were other things that bothered me:

The protagonist tries very hard to create this image of an embittered, pragmatic guy but ends up being a typical shounen take-on-all-the-impossible-odds-you-can-find protagonist. And also only nice to women. And a manslut.

Benio is like pure love and shit, and then ends up having loveless sex anyway. So much for staying true to oneself.

That final battle was utterly pointless and the writers tried to justify it by saying that "the king" changed somehow even though it's completely out of character for him to do so.

In the battle itself, they said the dragon's both arms were already sliced off, but he still has them just fine later when piercing the other avatar. Should I even mention how dragged out that scene was? Just repeating the same thing 10+ times. And a convenient resolution when both sides were already charging doomsday weapons.

The amount of praise in this thread is surprising, because I'm definitely dropping this.

Really though, it's not that bad. Of course it's not perfect, and it's definitely not a Muv Luv Alternative or Grisaia, but it's not that bad. 

I personally liked it more than Grisaia, and haven't played Muv Luv. Kagome's route is where the game shines, and Mayuki's great. This is among my favorite VNs- Benio could be a lot better, but we could say that was the introduction every good VN needs, Arcueid's route in Tsukihime was pretty boring at times, but the rest were god tier.

I didn't find it much fun though. Well, the music in battle scenes was pretty epic I admit, but outside of that everything just dragged on painfully. Chuuni probably just isn't my thing.

Probably not. Some of the routes are bland, but some shine, too. Mayuki was a good one. And Kagome's is some pretty sweet nectar. I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone, though. Much like slice of life isn't really my kinda thing, I get enough of that silly stuff IRL as it is.

He's using Kagari for his avatar.  People who like Rewrite generally have trouble with normal chuuni VNs, if only because there is generally no such thing as traditional VN romance in the average chuuni VN (lots of falling in love with enemies, violent heroine death, sleeping around, etc).  Also, he's saying this after reading Benio's path... and she is the least impressive of the main heroines.  I prefer Hisoka or Mayuki, if I had to pick one after Kagome.  For one thing, Benio's obsession with justice drives me up the wall even more than it does Izawa, and for another, she is pretty much deredere within three scenes of their first meeting. 

 

People who don't like Akihito don't like him because he doesn't bother with trying to be your average non-nukige VN protagonist (straightforward, sincere, monogamous), nor does he fall into the other extremes.  His women-only philanthropism also annoys a lot of people.  If you think about it a bit, it is easy to understand why he ended up the way he did, but most people can't get past the parts of him they don't like.

I thought Benio's route was just fine, She is my favorite Heroine after all, as far as Akihito, I had no issue with him either.

Benio's route was weird,the ending if i remember didnt make much sense(ended in a weird place) and Akihito was sleeping with plenty other women in her route lol

 

they never really started going out or anything if i remember right,Hisoka or Ayaya's route was better in that regard

Honestly, as simple of a character as Benio is, I like her because of that. Her naivety and simple-mindedness is refreshing, I guess. She values justice. I can get on board with that. Mainly because, reality is a lot harsher than that, and despite knowing that... She still tries to be justice personified. Maybe she's stupid. Maybe she's stubborn. However because of that, I can admire her.

Because truthfully, as cliché as it is, I always wanted to be that way. It's not possible, though. But it's still nice to see. So I can give Benio my approval, even if her ideal is weak and flawed. She's a great character, in her own little flawed way.

All right, I think it's time for me to move on from Mayuki. I've been dropping this VN because I loved Mayuki too much. After reading about Kagome's route praises, I think I'm going to start reading it again.

I Just finished Benio route, and up till now this VN has many great things, but it also has some pretty big faults.

 

For the good points it has a great set of characters, I liked most of them, especially Mayuki and Rondo, and from the male characters Izawa a lot his probably a best male character from VNs I have seen so far.

It has an amazing story with some very unpredicted and interesting twists.

I also liked how story looks at things more objectively and doesn't bound it self for normal rules and morals but challenges them.

And there's even an option to turn off H-scenes so you can read a story without being forced to go true porn here and there.

 

Generally I loved most of things in this VN and if there weren't for those faults it would definitely enter my top #3 VNs, might even become my new number #1 favorite VN. Unfortunately those faults do take away alot from overwall story.

 

And now for those faults.

 

Firstly an ending of Benio Route was very disappointing. She was always a bit annoying with her naivety and hero of justice stuff and felt like she didn't blend in story very much, but still I did like her otherwise, I liked how pure she is and she would usually stop with her justice nonsense before it really mattered.

But in the end she goes forward with her justice nonsense in the middle of a battle and nearly gets all of them killed after witch battle stops they lose without doing anything after witch everything magically works out fine by it self THE END.

It is terrible and it doesn't fit in a rest of a story at all.

If this was an anime and this was an only ending it would be enough to ruin a whole story. Good thing that it is only 1/5 endings and hopefully other endings are better.

 

And second thing is protagonist. There is one thing that I dislike about him and one thing I hate about him. The thing I dislike about him is how undefined he can be sometimes.

Like how he always says that he doesn't regret that he killed those people who tried to kill him nor he

sympathizes with them and how there is noting that is simply right or wrong in the world but then he says how he had done something wrong and expects to be punished for it. And he goes from one point to another all the time true the story

But the thing I really hate about him is that he is a whore, he has no problem with having sex with any random girl just for the sake of sex.

He has no problem with cheating on Benio and even when she discovers he doesn't even feel bad about it, and even when he had slept with her he didn't do it because he loved her but just because of sex itself. He basically just used them and then act liked noting happened at all.

He is the worst, Heroines and other girls deserve better then him.

With such protagonist it's hard to have any decent romance, no meeter how much you tried to build it latter having such a slut for a protagonist automatically kills it.

And it takes alot out VN when you hate a protagonist no meter how much great the rest of it is.

 

Well it is still a great VN but it could be so so much better if it just had a decent protagonist and a decent ending, well for an ending there are still 4 more for me to read so there is still a chance for it but I doubt there is any chance for a protagonist to become a decent character.

I find it absolutely hilarious reading people's comments who haven't finished it yet, that's like trying to judge a book on only the first chapter. While I understand some VN's you could probably get a good feel of the VN off of a route or two, but that is definitely not the case where a VN has the "One True End" tag.

Lots of flak against the protagonist and praise for characters who have yet to show their true colors... I do hope they finish the VN just to see their view turned upside-down.

They weren't together, it's not cheating, they never once committed to an actual relationship. Though if you really want to call it that, then Benio also cheated on him with Haru

@Okami this might help you out in understanding the protagoinst a bit better, and I've been as vague as possible and left out all character names:

In one of the other routes the protagonist basically says that he uses sex to escape from pain. It somewhat explains why he is kinda whorish. There is also a character later on who wants to escape from pain and uses the protagonist in this same way, and he helps her out, despite a HUGE risk on his part.

No, that's completely different, because a route is a proper story with an ending even if it leaves out unnecessary/unrelated parts revealed in other routes.

 

I didn't even like anyone except for Benio, to see her route go like that is a big turnoff and I see no reason to believe the other routes will be much better.

As for that last spoiler

Assuming that "pain" is still all about having having his mother die in his arms and all that crap, he's making way too big a deal out of this. We've had heroines with much worse background but few people would like them if they slept around because of that, so we just let it slide because Akihito is a guy? I'll never accept this logic.

If it's referring to something much, much deeper though, please tell me (leaving out as much as you can), I might think of giving it another shot.
