Firstly: THANK YOU SO MUCH! It's been so long and I can finally finish Majikoi off now. I'm having a font error, where the words are overlapping each other. I've never had this problem before and I'm in japanese locale mode. Am I perhaps missing a font that needs to be installed? Currently the game says its using the font MS. Thank you so much for finishing Majikoi! I just finished reading Miyako's route and afterstory and it was great. I appear to be missing the final scene for Miyako's route though, any idea where I can find it? (it's the final scene right before Yukie's start.)

So it's been 3 months since I last read a VN, I last finished off reading 3 big titles in a row (Comyu -> Rewrite -> Fate/Stay Night) and when I finished Fate I felt a little dejected that I couldn't immediately find any other "big and epic" titles to read next and so many things I wanted desperately to read remained untranslated (Bokuten, the Grisaia sequels, Dracu-Riot and all the Majikoi's to name a few). I'd just really like it to be a "high quality" VN so-to-speak to get back into the swing of things. My all time favorites are: Majikoi, Rewrite, G-Senjou, Comyu, Grisaia, Osanadai, Sharin no Kuni, and Monmusu Quest. I hope that might help a little with recommendations. Thank you.

@Okami It's called wearing a mask. Maybe I understand it a bit more because I had a really bad childhood and I'd always put on a fake smile and say "everything is alright" to those around me. The protagonist might say he's alright with everything, but this is clearly not the case and as you get to the other routes you'll clearly see that he is NOT okay with it at all and it actually affects him quite dramatically. The best explanation I can give is to read it for yourself and see the truth with your own eyes, I can keep trying until I'm blue in the face but until you've read it yourself you will not have seen the whole picture. And a protagonists can definitely change depending on the route, different routes are sometimes written by different people, and not only that - but different events happen in different routes which can dramatically affect the way the protagonist behaves. For example: Route A, protagonist finds his first love. Route B, protagonist gets addicted to drugs. Route C, protagonist best friend gets murdered. Route D, protagonist gets forced to move to a new city - can you honestly tell me that the protagonist is the same in all 4 of those hypothetical routes? The events around us shape who we are.

@Yukiru I kinda realized I made it sound like everything except Kagome's route is bad, I definitely do not feel that way! Hisoka's route made me shed tears, Mayuki's was super kawai-desu and Ayaya's made me laugh hysterically. I just always feel when I know there's a true end waiting, I really don't mind if the other routes are potentially bad, as long as the true ending is good? It's kinda hard to explain... :<

@Funnerific I dunno, I guess I just treat all VN's with the "One True End" tag differently, I don't even really see the other routes as anything more than just a fun distraction, or getting to know the other cast members better, before the real story unfolds. I'll try explain it, though obviously its hard to explain while still being vague, but I'll do my best This also helps refine the point I try to make above, but isn't as vague, doesn't involve any of the main heroines however, but is to do with the protagonists past. @Okami He's a lot better in the other routes, Benio's route overall was pretty shit and even the joke route is better.

I find it absolutely hilarious reading people's comments who haven't finished it yet, that's like trying to judge a book on only the first chapter. While I understand some VN's you could probably get a good feel of the VN off of a route or two, but that is definitely not the case where a VN has the "One True End" tag. Lots of flak against the protagonist and praise for characters who have yet to show their true colors... I do hope they finish the VN just to see their view turned upside-down. @Funnerific There is definitely romance, just Benio is not the route to read for that. I'd probably go as far as to say every route EXCEPT Benio's has romance. @Okami with regards to Benio route: @Okami this might help you out in understanding the protagoinst a bit better, and I've been as vague as possible and left out all character names:

It looks fine to me... weird. Dunno if living in this shitty country is something to celebrate :| Bad internet, horrific crime rate, corrupt government and not even a place to study Japanese (at least not in the Eastern Cape to my knowledge). Excuse me for trying to contribute some meaningful conversation and help somebody out I guess if an entire page isn't filled with your love of ass-buggery or 1 word multipost replies then it's a crime.

I'm weird like that It's pretty much just her that he's scared of - and for very good reasons (you find out why pretty early on). He's definitely not a coward and holds the "proactive protagonist" tag. I saw that more as playful teasing... Especially considering she walks around his room naked and gives lots of suggestive poses and whatnot to him. I only remember her really insulting him if: He does something stupid, or he's being flirty with another girl(jealousy). As I said she reminds me of Momoyo, if Momoyo was in a darker setting. Both Momoyo and Kagome are the "unnatural" in their respective settings, Momoyo is a demon with her power and Kagome is described as a "witch" by the protagonist. Yup, I can't help but get teary and want happy endings for VN's. The forced bad ending before you can get the good ending in KiraKira devastated me for weeks.

He's definitely not spineless, I don't think you read far enough at all. There's a reason he goes around saying he's a "feminist", and it's a very good reason. She's his deredere osananajimi, what are you talking about... She reminded me almost exactly like Momoyo, it's why she's my favorite character because she looks, sounds and acts almost exactly like Momoyo from Majikoi, at least if Momoyo was in a darker setting than Majikoi. I know the feeling, I quite often find myself using walkthrough's to avoid the bad endings, I can't stand bad endings (not after Yume Miru Kusuri). It's also one of the reasons I dislike everyone's favorite Muv-Luv Alternative. As with regards to Comyu:

Read this last week since the final route was on like 98% and figured the patch would be soon - then was forced to wait in agony for the final route to be released. Read the final route this morning in 1 sitting with no breaks, was not disappointed! Comyu easily took the #2 spot for my favorite VN's of all time. If I had to make one complaint it would be the lack of female characters with busts and curves, I'm not a fan of girls having "aerodynamic features" to quote the protagonist. I suppose I should've been satisfied with Kagome, Haru and to a lesser extent Ayaya, but there were just SO many flatchests (6!) But ignoring personal prefences it was a blast, as it's been quite a long time since a VN kept me in so much suspense to see what happens next.

Her route isn't final actually, as soon as you're done with the true route both Miku and Miou unlock at the same time. Weird, it forced me to play Rizu -> Miku -> Miou. Miou is even last in the CG and Events section.

Remarkable in that it was the first VN to make me want to vomit... I'm hoping it's only on this list for Miku's route. No worries, it happens. Honestly I wouldn't blame you, I'd like to wish I didn't read that final route at all and just accepted the ending with Miku as the true and final ending.

I've played some of their other VN's (G-Senjou and Sharin no Kuni), and by their normal standard the main route is the final route. In the case of A-Profile that would be Miou who is the last route (having to go through Rizu and Miku first). Miou's route was the most vile and disgusting thing I've ever read, and I've read some pretty bad things (such as Eroge! and Maman Kyoushitsu)

Really surprised A-Profile is on this list... Just read it today in one go, wish I had stopped after Miku's route (argueably the only route worth reading at all...), I'd argue almost anything is more deserving a spot than that. What about Edelweiss, Cho Dengeki Stryker, Ikikoi, Shinigami no Kiss, Osanadai? Even Otoboku... :\

The ending for alternative felt very rushed for me, and almost like a direct advertisement to read the fandisc. I wish I could read the fandisc I want my happy ending </3

Er... I don't think you got far enough, the routes are definitely different - you even go to different cities for different concerts depending on who's route you are on. It sounds to me that you didn't even get past the common-route. I'd give it a try, it's definitely not linear. It's got your typical common-route which splits into 3 unique routes depending on which girl you've been going for. It's not like Sharin no Kuni or G-Senjou which has the "1 route" theme with little branches. Sharin no Kuni would be Fig.1, Kira*Kira would be Fig.2

By Pathfinder books I mean the Pathfinder RPG rulebooks. I got converted into a D&D nerd back at Uni.

Love that book series, my entire bookshelf only consists of Wheel of Time and Pathfinder books Though I feel that with most adaptions all we'd get is a generic harem romcom focused on .

Not sure if this is true or not, it was posted on VNTL a few hours ago: "The translator, TakaJun, took a vacation trip to Florida, but while snorkeling, he was attacked by tiger shark. After dying from blood loss in a nearby hospital, his body was transferred to Arkansas, his hometown, for burial." If this is true, then it explains what happened to the original Majikoi translation, cause TakaJun didn't seem at all like the type of guy who would just abandon it so close to completion.
