I have read at Jast USA shall not localizing Starry Sky series and I think is very stupid since Starry Sky games are so good Dating Sim and the only Starry Sky games so are translated are Starry Sky in Spring and I would like to play Starry Sky After Spring, Starry Sky Autumn and Starry Sky in Winter very much, So I be disappointed when I heard that.

So now I want to hear others option about this

And I want to know who likes Jast USA and who not like Jast USA

I hate Jast USA right now

I haven't really looked so much into their business, but every company/group trying to spread vns is doing something good.

However it's weird, they released School Days HQ when there already was a free translation for up to last episode and they released My girlfriend is the president, when the trial was translated non-commercially.

This means, they in some way blocked the free translations from finishing, because I guess you can count on C&D letters from them. On the other hand, they released the works completed, we'll never know if that'd be the case without them.

So in short, I'm hesitant go give them any support. This is of course my personal view and it might be biased.

Yes i agree on that crofrzd and I think Mangagamer are much better than JAST USA, since Mangagamer are much faster to translate Games than JAST USA in general, We could have all the Games JAST USA are going to translate whish Mangagamer could translate them, long time ago now, but that couldnt not happend and now must we wait 5-20 years or mabey more before we can play the Games JAST USA shall translate

Hm, I'm actually not sure about mangagamer either. They did the same thing Jast did with ef a tale of memories (or when? <_< ). And they did stop translation of DC III even though they don't plan to release any translation for it, they claim monopoly on any translated Circus game, because they got the license.

I am pretty sure MG is currently translating DC III, but at the current speed which is insanely slow. We won't see it done before 2018 or something. Which you might as well consider no translation at all so far.

As for JAST, not a big fan really. They tend to hijack already partially or full fan translations. Then they talk or don't talk to the jp companies and we have to wait years for it to be released. MG translates VN's themselves and is resonably fast mostly. They tend to spew out a lot of nukies though.

Personally I am not very found of either. But I am more found of MG tbh. I've also read and enjoyed more of MG's story titles than JAST.

I wish MG could change their Website theme though. Higurashi does not really fit in with that pink colour.... It makes me want to close the brower lol. *Yes, I am totally a posh eroge player*

It's always a shame when a company drops a project that's loved by the fans.

Honestly i prefer MG due to the service they provide and they're good at what they're doing which is selling uncensored eroge to the world

Jast usa is not trying to sell uncensored porn and that's the difference so it's hard to compare both but i would say that jast is probably trying to invest in something that will bring them the most profit (like S;G which has a massive fanbase). Keep in mind that, no matter the company, ,the VN industry isn't massive and the western VN market is even tinier.

According to Jast they did not go for this project due to high costs. That in itself explains how small the company is.

It is sad but money is the winner here and it always will be.

Is it wrong to have fancy tastes in porn? I'm quite picky with my eroge and nukige too.

Always fap fabulously.

I love Mangagamer more than JAST USA and I'm looking forward to Princess Evangile, Da Capo 3, Cartagra ~Tsuki kurui no Yamai~ And Imouto Paradise! ~Onii-chan to Go nin no Imouto no Ecchi Shimakuri na Mainichi~

Very much, i think Mangagamer are the best Eroge marked in the world much better than JAST USA

I'm sorry but you are misinformed. The reason why ef took so much time to be released was not MangaGamer fault. Minori was the one taking care of the builds for it so that MangaGamer could test them afterwards. The problem is that Minori took a long time to send each build. For example, if you look at other titles MangaGamer releases, you won't see them taking this much time.

Oh, and before you mention something about Chou Dengeki Stryker also taking a long time to be released, the reason is because the game is still with Overdrive to finish scripting. Again, this isn't within what MangaGamer has control. But of course that the customers usually don't know this.

Regarding Da Capo III, as already said, Mangagamer is working on it. In fact, after the moment they sent the C&D notice it became obvious that they'd be releasing a localized version of it.

Have you heard about Da Capo III anime? The Da Capo III anime just covers the prologue of the VN. MangaGamer staff already said several times that the script is as big as Koihime Musou. Doddler even twitted about it some weeks ago (December 13 to be exact). Also, for translation consistency, only one translator is working on it.

If MangaGamer didn't release nukiges they'd probably be out of business by now or would be just another JAST taking a long time to release VNs. It should be obvious by now that above all, JAST is interested in making profit of each title. To complement, as far as I know they have very few staff members.

Going back to MangaGamer, the fact that they release a lof of nukiges certainly gives the impression to newcomers that they're simply a porn company and basically don't release story titles. This is why so many people support MangaGamer re-branding itself which I agree. The current market (reads: people who actually buy story VNs) isn't big enough to support the continuous release of story titles.

Of course not! Take Eroge! ~Sex and Games Make Sexy Games~ as an example. I'm pretty sure I haven't read to this day a more erotic VN than this one. Oh they were good days!

Btw, it's good the see a fellow Portuguese (yes, from Portugal) around here.

I like JAST kind of out of a combination of nostalgia and the good games they release are worth playing. On the other hand though their slow release schedule (I honestly think we'll have all seen Avengers 3 on DVD by the time Seinarukana releases) doesn't do them many favors in my eyes. I like Mangagamer better since they have a pretty solid release lineup every year and the fact that they're a lot more open with their customers than JAST helps too. I also like MG kind of has a "can do" attitude about their localizations which kind of helps give them an image as the company to look to for potential localizations of an eroge you really like *coughKyonyuuFantasyseries*; JAST has more of an image of "appreciate whatever they can release" which was fine a decade ago but now...

For me, both companies are kinda comparable.

JAST is slow as hell, but they are generally licensing VNs with more complex plots. Also, such "big name" companies as Nitro+ usually don't give a damn about western market, so lengthy negotiations are kinda understandable.

MangaGamer is faster, but that's mainly because they are releasing a stream of nukiges, that can be translated quickly and getting license for those most of the time is relatively easy (and cheap). Now, if they released a single nukige relevant to my interests, that would be great (oh well, I have some hopes for Noesis titles at least). However, when it comes to solid, story-heavy, hard-to-get-license titles like Ef or Innocent Grey's stuff, they aren't that much faster than JAST really. Also, some of their translations have only passable quality.

When it comes to using fantranslations - all groups agreed to give/sell their work, nobody hijacked anything. And complaining about non-free translations makes no sense whatsoever - you get the chance to buy the dirt cheap official (uncensored) English edition, instead of shipping super-expansive JP version (in case you don't remember - only the fan patches are legally free, VNs themselves are not).

I like JAST because they release the sort of high profile games I want to play.  Mangagamer releases more titles, but not more titles I want to play.  Since I started playing titles in Japanese ho-hum titles in English just don't excite me anymore.

However it's weird, they released School Days HQ when there already was a free translation for up to last episode

JAST provided added value there by licensing the HQ edition.  The fan translation was for the original release.

Basically my opinion is a mix of this. I hold the same view as Pabloc if you ask me to analyze the quality of both JAST and Mangagamer, but like sanathlig, I feel more interested in the content that JAST releases, since I'm basically done with all those ordinary moeges.

I'm still waiting for them to hurry up and finish translating Shiny Days. I can probably learn to read & speak fluent Japanese faster than they could release it. <_<

JAST is toooooooo sloooooow, but besides that,I'm fine with them.I loved their School Days release and I can't wait for Shiny Days(though it's very unlikely Kokoro's scenes will survive the localization,it's too risky...)

Well maybe they still might be able to include Kokoro's bad end, because it has a "morale" or so to say (it does not put the questionable content in a good light), on the other hand that might not be enough for some westerners. We can also hope for a more stable version, as always, after all Summer Days was so unstable that it had to be re-released with the addition of a new main route as Shiny days. Whenever that shiny day actually comes.

I sort of lost interest in all localization companies once my Japanese reading capabilities passed the critical point... since then, I have only played one VN in English, Demonbane.  I still order games that I liked in Japanese or that I want to support, but it is pretty rare for something I feel is worth buying to get localized commercially...

Since no one's brought it up, I like JAST because its founder is actually a pretty cool guy. Peter Payne is on twitter and responds to most of the people that tweet him in a friendly and helpful manner. I won't say anything about their translation quality or speed because i'm not sure which titles are theirs and which titles they're selling on behalf of others.

As for Starry Sky...the article clearly states that the reason it is not being translated is because of the outrageous prices being asked for by the Japanese developer. It's not a question of whether JAST can afford it or not, as much as it is that the developer is intentionally setting a price that would prevent JAST from making any profit on the series.
