Man, that's some chuuni shit. For a second there I thought this guy was copying lines from Dies Irae.

Looking for a visual novel that isn’t about high school
Albedo replied to ratboi's topic in Recommendations
Remember 11, Kikokugai, Saya no Uta, Subarashiki Hibi (there's high school stuff... but it's very, VERY different from your run-of-the-mill VN.) -
Reading VNS with Reading Disability
Albedo replied to seishirousubaru91's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Well, why don't you try giving some shorter titles a shot? Kikokugai (also from Nitroplus) is pretty good and short, so is Hanachirasu. Saya no Uta isn't that long also, but it's, uh, quite a trip. -
Euphoria.

This one is horror. Existential. Sort-of. https://vndb.org/v1484

Fuwa Confession: I Have to Take a Complex Decision
Albedo replied to Sendu's topic in General Discussion
Find out what would you need to get a visa from that Japanese school before you do anything. You don't get a visa, you're out. And one important thing, you will never, ever be "part of the family" there, so better not get your hopes up. Also, their educational system is shit. Primary school kids going to cram schools? GTFO, no wonder they end up killing themselves so much. -
Your feelings on comyu without any spoilers please!

It's chuuni, therefore it's shit. Also, hope you like red. -
Subahibi. I can't believe it lived up to the hype and then some.

Degica bought the scripts for ML/MLA from Ixrec, but they were... uh... unusable, so both games had to be translated from scratch.

Galaxy Angel 1-3 are RTS (so technically strategy...) and the story is fun enough in all three of them, although pretty light hearted. Also, no porn.

Not CG related, but Flowers has plenty of mistakes. They get practically everything about catholicism wrong (which covers from background information to the answer to a question in one of the detective sections) which is kinda funny when the whole VN takes place in a catholic high-school. Still a good VN though.

So, I'm also playing Dies Irae (except that I'm about to start the final route) and while it does get better, the shounen crap never goes away. Nor does the remedial high-school level philosobabble, sadly.

Planescape: Torment has so much text it may as well be a VN...

lolwut? There's like 20 VNs starring John Cena. Just use photoshop and make all your characters John Cena. Problem solved!

Weird-ass stories that I can't get in any other media.
-
Saya no Uta will give you warm and fuzzy feelings. If you don't mind gameplay, 999 is a pretty good, newbie-friendly mindfuck (though it is kind-of Sci Fi.) Ever 17 is the original version, and while in my opinion is better, it also has some serious pacing issues. And Symphonic Rain's pretty good, too (dem feels)

Ending E could be considered a happy ending, or at least an ending that leaves open the possibility of a happy ending, given the themes running through the game.
-
Yes, ZTD is trash, but Remember 11 is such a huge mindfuck, totally worth playing.

Mass Effect Andromeda - Ready for judgment (TuT)
Albedo replied to InvertMouse's topic in Gaming Talk
Yup, writing's totally fine -
It's simple, to read stories that I couldn't normally read in other mediums (say, books or comics) because they're either 1) way, waaaay out there (MYTH, Saya no Uta or Euphoria, for example) or 2) because they use storytelling devices that are not available in other media (Ever 17, 999 and Remember 11 are the first examples that come to mind.) Basically I read VNs for mindfucks and weird shit, and VNs are pretty good at it.

Hanachirasu and Kikokugai aren't related to Muramasa, they're their own stories and also completely independent of each other.
-
Well, he's not from a game/VN, but could you draw Bueno Excellente? This is what he looks like;
