I want my niece to read a vn but I need to play it first and know that it is 100% "harmless", for example I'm letting her watch Cardcaptor Sakura and Detective conan and as much as I love others anime like shin-chan, ranma 1/2, etc I don't think she is old enough for those ones (when i was younger 8 more or less I watched and nothing happened to me...I think ) So my question is: is there any vn out there for kids? btw she is 7 and learning english too so it would be awesome for her to start reading some english vn to help her with her studies and have some fun at the same time. P.S.: yes yes I know that if my hear had wings is oriented for kids of that age but it's out of the question and she is not French either, so it's a no no. Check the no sexual content section on VNDB maybe u can find something tho i dunno if there are any tickle-me-elmo type VNs if that's what you are looking for. Narcissu might work depending on the kid if they're closer to 12 rather than 7. What else... Planetarian is right there with Narcissu, I know I would have enjoyed it when I was 12, if you can use the word "enjoy" for Planetarian. Not much comes to mind, though the few that I've come up with should come with the fact that I'm the kind of person who thinks Persona 3 and 4 are appropriate for eight-year olds. I tend to err on the side of what can be gained. Ever17 is the one that comes to mind the strongest. I haven't finished it yet, but it's all-ages and doesn't seem to have too much violence. Symphonic Rain might be good as well, though I haven't so much as gotten past the first few minutes. What of the All-ages version of F/SN, if she's alright with something action-heavy? Rewrite and the rest of the Key stuff might be good as well. It's an easier question to answer in terms of anime for sure, but again, I'm not the kind to assume a kid won't get something a bit higher-level. Don't underestimate them now (And in the event you want to go full-on horror, Higanbana would be a good choice in a few years. Unlikely, but it exists. Most vns despite being all ages are usually for ages 13 and up because they contain more complex plotlines, even highschool romances are probably not a good idea since the child can't really relate to them and if your niece is younger than 10 i don't know if she'll be able to get immersed in most VNs. There's some pretty bloody and messed up stuff in there, would not recommend if you think that's not cool. Well, I suppose the same goes for F/SN but worse, lol. As for actual recommendations... maybe something like Autumn's Journey might work. The writing is a bit purple at times and I find it lame in general, but it's not terrible and conflict is present but not graphic. You can read it through fairly quickly and decide for yourself. It's been awhile since I played it and I never finished all the branches, but I'm reasonably sure there wasn't anything too inappropriate. I do know that it is possible to kill someone and to die in the vn, so I'm not too sure if those bits of the story are too violent for children. Sure we have non-eroge titles but their stories still remain complex, suggests some psychological stuff or somehow simulates the dark sides of modern society (e.g. bullying, financial problems etc). Your best bet is to find OELVNs but I don't have much knowledge on that. Though if you insist, the most kid-inviting title is Sengoku Rance.
