I've upgraded my previous Windows 8.1 64 bit OS to Windows 10 64 bit since its much better and superior than win 8 in every way and I wanted to try it out ever since. Ever since then it runs just quite alright without any issues. I tried installing some VNs and most of them work smoothly.

Umm... If most of you are concerned about privacy regarding Microsoft doing sinister stuffs onto your PCs like gathering details in your PC or updating unnecessary spyware programs on your OS without your consent. You could manually delete the windows system file named "svchost.exe" found somewhere in the system files of windows to permanently disable or cut off Windows 10/Microsoft capability to update or gather information from your PC for good if you wish to use Win 10 without any updates or other interference. Although by doing so you'll be unable to use the windows store and other functions which beats the purpose of using Win 10 since "svchost.exe" is a very vital windows file, almost every program needs this thing to be able to be fully functional or they'll be totally messed up big time. Also if you delete "svchost.exe" incorrectly or deleted other windows files by accident, there's a huge chance for your PC to be mortally damaged and the only way to fix it is either to revert your OS to a certain point where win 10 was first freshly installed or reinstall it entirely which is really bothersome to do.

Ever since with Win 10, you no longer have the option or the choice to choose which updates you wish your PC to acquire as the OS itself automatically determines which updates your PC, whatever programs the Win 10 OS deems essential for your PC to have, thus you're likely won't be able to know whatever programs or updates has actually taken place giving the impression that they're doing something suspicious. Unlike before with Win 7 and Win 8 whereas you have absolute full control on which updates you want to have for your PC such as the different option language packages, security and hardware updates or other miscellaneous updates ranging from the important ones with the purely optional ones. Win 10 no longer gives you that kind of control which is a bit shameful but somehow understandable...

At the moment I'm running my PC where I actually removed "svchost.exe" and every seems to be alright ever since the day I upgraded from win 8 to 10, except that I cannot use the Windows Store and the other numerous functions Win 10 has. However most of my VNs and other games still runs smoothly since they're not complex programs/software.

Discovered this thing by accident and just wanted to share it if ever you guys wanted to upgrade or use Win 10 without any updates or other interfering stuff from Microsoft just to be on the safe side since its much better than Win 8.  But if your already using Win 7, then there's no need to upgrade since Win 7 is the best OS to date when it comes to compatibility of certain software or programs. Hope this helps or maybe not XD:mare:

Hey guys, I'm wondering if u should upgrade or not and have a few concerns.

I have a lot of Vns installed, if i upgrade to win10, will the installed vns be disrupted in any way? I checked with sanaglits compatibility list and they're all compatible. Just wondering if i have to reinstall existing programs (programs i installed so i wouldn't have problems with vns, i cannot remember which now lol).

If i dont upgrade, is it possible that future vns from jastusa, mangagamer and sekai would not be compatible with my OS (win8)?

Is it even necessary if i use my laptop for word documents, mail, vns and movies? I know people say windows 8 is terrible, but i haven't had a problem for what i use it for...

Bottomline, i'm worried about the switch causing a disruption in my current and future vns reading.

Your advice and insight will be very much appreciated!

Personally, when I switched to Windows 10, none of my VNs/documents really got affected. I didn't need to reinstall any VNs and my save files/CGs were all still intact. The only problem I had was getting used to the new interface. :vinty:

Pretty much my experience as well as I think I said here already. :sachi: Cortana is ew though, the new interface is meh but I got used to it quickly enough.

Thanks for the replies guys. After reading some of the previous comments about the spyware and forced installations with the free version. I think i'll stick to my old reliable Os that i'm used 2. As @Xavier12 said, no need to upgrade a working system.

@Eclipsed -san, do you have any idea if vn distributors still continues to release games compatible for all the older windows OS indefinitely?  (I know the question may sound dumb lol, but i rather just ask if i don't understand)

I think most VNs are still being developed for Windows 7.

Many of the new ones have Windows XP compatibility as well.

Except for some weird VR games that rely on Windows 10 specific functions, I don't even know games that work on the newer Win 8 and 10 but not Win 7.

Windows 10 retrocompatibility is nigh perfect, at least in my experience (I personally have gotten zero problems). I don't know where all the badmouthing is coming from. This is not the 1990s, and Microsoft has had time to learn better.

Windows 8 -> Windows 10 is a straight upgrade and you won't encounter compatibility issues.  Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 or Windows 10 is where compatibility issues can arise.  Every source I've looked at says that Win10 is better than Win8 in pretty much every way--unless you're concerned about privacy.

Not upgrading to Win10 is unlikely to prevent you from playing VNs in the next few years.  However, I've heard discussion in the tech community that mainstream 3D games may soon target DirectX 12 exclusively due to the improved feature set and greater efficiency, and those wouldn't work on any OS other than Windows 10.

Privacy? Microsoft isn't gonna do anything about you watching BDSM porn online. :wahaha:

The prospect that they're handling your data is unsettling, but no harm will come to you. There is such a thing as laws (even if some people don't really believe in them).

Personally, it's better that Microsoft has my data than cybercriminals have it.

Also, if you're worried about that, do know that your Internet provider has a complete log of your visited websites, so you make them cry too when you visit some porn site.

Thanks a lot  Sana, wanted that bit of info. I don't use my laptop for gaming (its a basic work laptop, Vns are fine though), so i'm not concerned about the 3d gaming bit. I guess i'll get a new laptop by the time those changes to Vn compatibility happens.

Hahahahaha its not about the porn man!  I think its just the thought of some entity doing whatever it wants with my info. Its disturbing. I know it happens all the time but if i can have some little control over it, or minimizing it, i'll want to have that choice.

Yeah i know about service providers having everyone's logs, but there's a lot of procedure for them to go through users logs. Plus there millions of users (for each isp), they end up tracking users with high and unusual traffic mostly, they cant big brother everyone right?  Well i'm not even 100% sure with the info i have lol.

Anyway, everyone has our info and we cant do much about it. So i'm going to let myself believe that choosing a stupid Os is gonna change that :sacchan:

Tbh the spyware is on win7 as well, MS only came clean with their practice on Win10. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also the argument that ISPs have way too many users to actually go through info for each one of them applies even more to MS due to the millions of users worldwide.

I've been using the thing since the preview builds with no complaints whatsoever. I even find win10 to be more lightweight than win7 to be completely honest.

Only after Win10 was introduced and you can easily get rid of all the spy updates: https://voat.co/v/technology/comments/853510

Do you really think they use humans in the first stage of examining and evaluating of what they have collected?

I know that you can disable them, but in terms of collecting info they have been doing it for longer than win10, everyone else has, they just decided to be upfront about it and they did it differently, it's oddly naive to think that they only started doing it now.

No I don't, I realise the automation behind it, however there is human examination at some level, even after a lot of filtering and treatment of the info.

My only point was that not upgrading to win 10 for the arguments made before is kinda fallacious imo.
