If I'm not mistaken, there's an option for old music. As for old art - original version has been released as a DLC for PS4 version. It would be nice, if they released it for Steam users too.
I browsed through screenshots on Steam. I'm fine with new backgrounds - they're really nice, but I wish they kept old character design.

Let's bump this thread, since the remake is released on Steam.
I'll probably give it a go some day, but I'm waiting for it to go on some sale, since current price is quite steep - I think the only VN more expensive than this on Steam is Clannad.
People who already seen it say that translation is decent enough to not worry about it

From what I have seen in the available screenshots, it looks like they did, by slight changes either to the "camera" angle, skirt length or character poses in redrawn CGs. And yeah, they were really awkward at times.
Also, it looks that gameplay system has been revamped a bit. It eliminates pixel hunting by option to highlight all hotspots in the scene, and apparently paths in flowchart are color-coded for routes. Also, there are two(?) more jewels than in the old version.

I'm picking this up as well at some point, but it probably won't be anytime soon since I read the original pretty recently. Other than the confusing route system, I'd say it holds up really well to this day, with great art and music. Couldn't care less about the fact that h-scenes are cut from the remake, since they didn't really add to the experience, but I hope they've removed the awkward panty shots (mentioned earlier in this thread) as well.

Are you reading in Japanese or English? (I'm not sure if the picture you posted is one you took yourself or if you just grabbed one from the internetz)
If you're reading the English version, make absolutely sure to apply the retranslation patch ASAP if you haven't already.

Except that you said you specific words kept in place, rather than having the correct meaning presented.  That's the opposite of an accurate translation.  Whatever you think you understand about what a Japanese character is saying, you're almost certainly wrong... or you are fluent in Japanese and should read the VN in that language.
Incidentally, there ARE speech styles in Japanese that match up to those used by 'rednecks and chavs'.  Are you saying that you would consider it an inaccurate translation to use those styles in English?

And shitstorms like this one is probably exactly one of the main reasons for that.
You know, the fact that these speech quirks can be easily heard in the voiced lines anyway is what makes me wonder why people care so much about keeping them in the written text. Because, you know, the 3rd person speech doesn't have the same implications in English as it apparently does in Japanese, so keeping it would actually be less accurate translation than removing it.
This reminds me, I believe I've seen some Japanese media fan-translations that do exactly that. Honestly, these are pretty much impossible to read, for obvious reasons.

System is pretty simple. In the common route, there's a quiz, but I don't know if it matters. Correct answers are B, A, and B, but you can just select D, and there after some dialogue the MC will land on the correct answer automatically. (I'm just right after that part )
Aftwerwards, there are just two choices where you explicitly choose the heroine. After completing all four routes, true ending becomes available from main menu.

isn't Angel Beats tecnically dead? They've literally release only one part of the game and moved on to the next franchise, never going back to nor talking about AB!

Y'know the FC part of the VN isnt as boring as i'd thought. Could be the way they transition the visuals and explain the match, makes it somewhat interesting. Good balance between the serious stuff and SoL stuff as well

For now I want to say, that I just finished 5th chapter (some retranslation, and translating the lines missing from official TL), which makes roughly 25% of the whole text.

No one's given you the most important advice of all - be prepared to be disappointed. By the nature of the difficulty and size of the projects, very few random people in their first translation project stick around to the end.

If you don't want an accurate translation, then why the hell should the "translators" not just rewrite the story to whatever they feel like?  It's not like you can tell the difference, and as long as they cater to your hangups, you'll be happy.

My guy, just look at the reactions in this thread. You're in the minority on freaking Fuwanovel, the weebiest place to talk about VNs short of 4chan. The only reasonable conclusion is that the one living in an echo chamber is you, not those of us saying 3rd-person self-reference sounds like ass in translation.

Then you certainly didn't play much: Princess Evangile, Little Busters, Majikoi, Walkure Romanze, Flowers, 9-Nine series, Tsuriotsu, Shuffle, Akatsuki no Goei, Reminiscence, etc. just to name a few.
And I guess lots of Illyasviel fans would burn you on a stake for denying her main heroine status in Fate/Stay Night just because she doesn't have her own route - she *only* has several anime series for herself. And Inui Sana from Mashiro no Symphony got her own route after she won the official (!!!) character poll.
And just to put things clear, I personally will comment about ANY character of a VN that pleases me, even if he or she doesn't even have a sprite or a text line. If a side character gets mentioned a lot in a positive context, it means that the developers did a good job for the support cast so there's a definite meaning behind it. Naturally, the same also applies reversed for a negative context as well.

Well, Aoi is probably less about her appearance and more because she's more mature and I don't have the feeling of talking to a 5 year old kid in conversations with her like the others. XD
But I'm not a big fan of Sprite's character designs anyway, so none of them makes my heart throb. Backgrounds are great though, especially since they also have background characters.
Why should it not be allowed to mention side heroines? It's not unusual that side heroines overshadow main heroines. Lots of VN's even have fan discs where side heroines ascend to main heroines.

Small rant about The JLPT: It is a terrible measure of actual language skill. It requires 0 speaking skill, and it’s not all that hard to guess your way to a good score since it’s multiple choice. (And you can try again as many times as you want.) 
What the JLPT should be used for is for people who feel they are at a certain level to test that theory for themselves. Do you know everything, or at least most of what is on the test without much trouble? If so, you’re on that level. Congrats. But if you barely passed based on guessing right half the time because you honestly didn’t know the answers to half the test then passing it doesn’t make you NX. Therefore having passed, let’s say the N1, does not always mean you are at that level at all, and having the N1 certificate is basically pointless if your skill doesn’t keep up with it. That’s why most companies in the TL industry gives TL tests. They want to see your actual skill level, not a certificate you might just have from pure luck. 
Another issue the JLPT has is that N1 is basically just a list of outdated and obscure kanji you will never have a use for in daily life. Fluent people won't know this shit. Meanwhile, it skips important things you do need in daily life, which is a must for native speakers. If you absolutely must do a JLPT level, N3 and N2 are the ones with the most helpful info you can actually use. N1 is just obscure and fairly pointless. 
In general I feel like simple choices like: beginner, intermediate, skilled, fluent etc is a lot better. The JLPT is really not a good measure of skill. Being on "N1 level" really doesn't mean anything, as that just implies you know a lot of obscure shit but have no practice speaking Japanese normally? Tl;dr I don't like the JLPT, lol.

I have witnessed the progress of an English speaker transitioning out of referring to themself in the third-person and into the first-person. The toddler in question finished making that change shortly before their third birthday. So if you want to feel like Saya is two years old while you're reading that game, go for it and apply that patch. Meanwhile, any halfway decent translator is going to understand how inaccurate it is to render 3rd-person self-reference in Japanese as 3rd-person self-reference in English.

Don't presume to speak for "the target audience".  That's hubris enforced by the echo chamber you live in.  Most people do not engage online communities.  Only the biggest diehard fans do.  A small subset, skewed heavily towards those with strong opinions, is not a representative sample.  And your opinion is not even universally shared among the online community.
