If it's sold, he would get an C&D from the company who owns the game rights. Zaka never said he should stop, only warned him that it might happen.
Of course he is not giving you any proof if it's really true. if it's sold it means the translator cannot talk about it nor any party that is involved with it. Seeing you couldn't wait longer than 30 min for a respond with proof that the project is sold out, made you shared his PM. That already proofed that Zaka did the right thing, not giving you anymore information. The best thing you could do was just to ignore his pm as you don't believe it.

If zakamutt wanted that information to be public, he would've posted it here instead of PMing you. Sharing his PMs is a real shitty thing to do. Now why would he ever show you any proof if you'd just leak it right away?
I don't know what's going on behind the scenes really but Zaka is a very trustworthy individual and you're clearly stepping on some toes here. The nice thing to do would be to pick another project and move on.

Hello again. Today, I have the 5th week of progress updates. As you can see, we're keeping a good pace and hopefully, the prologue patch should be out in the coming months.
    Here are the updates
    Translation:
    Prologue - 76% (1353/1791)
    Edit
    Prologue - 26% (469/1791)
We are still looking for a dedicated TLC as the other translator is only doing it for the prologue. If you think you are capable enough for the position, please PM me.
That's all I have for this week. See you guys next week with some more project updates.

What did you just say about lolis sold to a brothel, Kokoro? I'll have you know I graduated top of my English Literature class at the University of Miami, and have over 50 confirmed credits as a visual novel editor. I am trained in English and I am well known as one of the top editors on Fuwanovel. As we speak I am contacting my network of experts across the internet right now to assemble and work on Musumaker together so you better prepare for the patch, maggot. If only you knew what kind of lolige your "clever" little comment was about to bring onto the world, maybe you would haven't clicked on "Submit Reply". But you couldn't, you didn't, and now the entire VN community will pay the price.

    ^ well,
But hell, I kind of agree with the availability point. Some time ago I was looking at the translation bounties on exhentai for something to tl, and this really attractively bountied one had been on the list for a long while. It was kinda weird to my degenerate self, but I guess it being and old guy and a loli turned most people off, lol.

Raw translation requires at least a solid grasp of Japanese grammar (grammar being all-important), the ability to write comprehensible English prose, and the ability to transfer the meaning from the Japanese grammar system to the English one.  I'm going to be straight with you... if you can't at the very least play the average charage without even once referring to a dictionary, you shouldn't be translating VNs.  I don't mean skimming it either... I mean understanding every sentence without having to spend a minute thinking about it.  There are plenty of people who play VNs in Japanese who don't have this level of comprehension, so don't think that just because you can play the VNs while using a parser and occasional mechanical translation aids that you can translate a VN.
If you want to one day become a translator, your first task, above all other things, is to master the grammar.  Just learning words doesn't mean anything when it comes to translation.  In addition, even if you don't memorize all the kanji (something very few Japanese ever manage), you need to be able to grasp how kanji go together to form words on a gut level, not just an intellectual one.  If you can't tell by the context and the kanji when a different meaning of the same phonetic phrase is being used, then you will repeatedly make the same mistakes.

A translator must be able to understand what they are reading, beyond just being able to look up a word in a dictionary. If your version of understanding the source text is nothing more than looking it up word by word in a dictionary, you will be doing the same as a machine translation would do. So, before you consider becoming a translator for a real project, you should get better at understanding the language in general, which is really only done by studying a lot, and reading natively written Japanese texts etc.
In terms of how much kanji you need to know, that depends on what you're going to translate, and how serious you are about it. An official translator must know at least the 常用漢字 (common use kanji), and preferably even more, to truly comprehend what they are reading.
But, for fan translators, the main part to focus on is the general understanding of the grammar and such in whatever you are translating. Looking up a kanji compound is significantly easier than learning an entirely new piece of grammar. Additionally, as many grammar forms in Japanese have many different meanings, without the proper knowledge, you could easily pick the wrong meaning/ usage when you simply look the grammar form up on the internet.
So, first and foremost, it is important that you are capable of reading and understanding what you are translating. (So, if you want to translate a visual novel, start by reading the entire thing, and make sure you are capable of understanding it all. If you are, you can start looking into translating it.) Translating something without having read it first is never a good idea, anyways, as you'll be missing out on potentially important context etc.

Hello again. Today, I have the third week of progress updates. Editing has finally started for the project, so that's pretty nice
    Translation:
    Prologue - 46% (829/1791)
    TLC
    Prologue - 27% (486/1791)
    Edit
    Prologue - 16% (279/1791)
We are still looking for a dedicated TLC as the other translator is only doing it for the prologue. Also, we are looking for people to fill in the QC position as well. If you think you are capable enough for either of these positions, please PM me.
Also, everybody can view live progress on this project from this website. I'll put it in the original post as well.

Honestly dude, it'd be better to criticize the editing on such a line instead of the translation aspect if you have no clue about the TL Chuee does have major issues admitting his editing is below average after all.

Editing aside, in terms of the tone used, the translation is pretty much exactly the same as the Japanese line. It's just someone casually asking their parent if they can turn on the TV.
Nothing is lost in the translation at all. (There is no form of title used for the mother, and everything is said in plain forms.)
I get why some people might have an issue with the editing of said line, but saying it changes the meaning from the JP line is simply incorrect.

If you don't know japanese and are admitting that you're not an expert at it, then I don't know why you're commenting on its faithfulness. Either way, the language being used in the japanese version is very casual, so equivalently casual language is being used in the translation. The english version of those lines pretty accurately depict the tone in the japanese lines. I would like to know how you think japanese families talk to each other, if not in this kind of casual tone.

Well, for starters, that sentence doesn't even make sense because it reads "Mother, am I able to turn on the television?"
    Second, it's douzo not dozoi..
And third, that's a very formal way to say that. A lot of people aren't going to speak to their parents like that.
Here's what the actual lines were in Japanese
    テレビ付けていい?
    どうぞ

    Also for this
"What I meant is the they took the original jap text and translate it in such a way that only a typical, say, US family would say and not a Japanese"
Japanese families speak Japanese not English, so there is no 'way' that they would say English.

RedK reacted to tymmur in Sex ed banned in Japanese schools
Pretty much as the title says. Japan has a problem with rising number of STDs and teenage pregnancies, yet when a school in Tokyo started to teach about it, the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education banned the school from talking about intercourse, birth control or abortion. Apparently the young minds are too immature to know about such an obscene topic even if they have reached the age of concent. In 2015 and 2016, 2098 high school students got pregnant and 674 dropped out. According to the schools only 32 was asked to do so, the rest made the choice themselves. Apparently they are fine with the girls dropping out because they did violate the rule about students not being allowed to become pregnant. Those who drop out tend to come from poor families and having ruined their education, they likely ruined their future as well.

We all know about the silly censorship laws, but this is just beyond stupid. They complain about low pregnancy levels, but at the same time they refuse to teach the next generation how to control if and when to get children. At this rate, it's possible that some remain childless because they haven't figured out how on their own. Don't laugh, doctors in America occasionally encounter such people, though it's rare.

It also explains some of the weird made up "facts" in VNs/H anime and H manga. Some of the repeating fake facts are:
    - no pregnancy from the first time. The body doesn't care about history
    - no pregnancy before first period. Some girls have a number of ovulations prior to the first visible period. All girls have at least one
    - no pregnancy from anal. Apparently those swimmers are such good aimers that they can fall out and enter the other hole
    - safe days. Sex can trigger spontaneous ovulation regardless of cycle, particularly if inexperienced (young) or highly unusual settings (like rape)

Fake facts commonly believed even though I'm not sure I have seen them in VNs, yet fits the topic:
    - condoms protect against STDs. They do not protect against those transmitted by skin contact
    - shaving improve hygiene - it protects against easily treatable STDs while increase the risk of infection and hard/impossible to treat STDs

One fact, which I would like to add here, which to my knowledge is left out everywhere is that during pregnancy, the pelvis will change shape in order to prepare for birth. If it's not fully developed, it has a tendency to be shaped poorly regarding leg movement and the woman will for life be worse at running and possibly even walking. This alone is reason to recommend against pregnancy before the age of 18/20 (around that time). Considering the risk of accidental pregnancy, the age of concent of 18 actually makes sense. Mature people with such knowledge should be able to give it to the next generation. There is no reason why each generation should learn this the hard way.
