Endless Legend is amazing, as has been mentioned. Other than that, I've recently been enjoying Prison Architect and Cities: Skylines, but those are more on a construction management side of things than tactics and stuff.
I've got over 1000 hours of playtime in Crusader Kings 2, but that was before some heavy-handed changes were made to the game. I can't recommend it in its present state and I doubt it will ever be the same.
Another old favorite of mine is Jagged Alliance 2. It's dirt cheap on Steam and fans have created amazing content for it (it used to be called Patch 1.13 IIRC, but I've been away from the game for a while and I've got no idea what's been going on since then). If you don't mind old games, give it a go. It's a bit like XCOM, but all your hirelings are fully and sublimely voiced and have (sometimes clashing) personalities.

Speaking more generally though, am I the only one who gets the feeling that Peter just doesn't care anymore? It seems like he stopped caring after the Nitro+ project went mostly pear-shaped.
It's bizarre how little information a now-casual person like me gets from their twitter accounts, as well. The @JastUSA twitter is active and constantly tweets pics with "funny" captions, but it sucks at relaying actual information big time. I missed the release date of Shiny Days altogether, and that much-maligned "My GF is the President" fandisc was released to so little fanfare... if it was any less prominent, I'd consider it deliberately obscured. With MG and Sekai, you know what happens and when, cause they hype their releases on twitter almost mercilessly. With JAST... unless it's a SUPER BIG DEAL like Steins;Gate, nobody really seems to care.
And another thing. While being hush-hush about everything like JAST usually is is not exactly a bad or a good thing as long as the product is fine, it also doesn't inspire much confidence. I like knowing who works on a VN (well, tbh I just find Doddler's attempts to fix things after every major release hugely entertaining, but still) so I can stare sternly at their twitter userpic when things aren't to my satisfaction. Doesn't really work with Peter Payne's account, that.
I'd love to say I'm surprised at Flowers' lack of... well, polish is the wrong word... all-around quality, but I'm not.

Yeah, Da Capo 2 fo sho.

Normally JAST is better than this, but then again JAST's been under pressure to release stuff quicker, so ...
Is there even such a thing as "normally" with JAST? It all depends on who does the work, and quality tends to fluctuate wildly between different VNs. That's something JAST had been known for for ages.

Wasn't there some serious fourth wall breaking in My Girlfriend is the President? I seem to remember some.

I've always been partial to the instrumental version of Burst Dream that's used as menu music for Dengeki Stryker. It does a great job at setting the mood for some shonen superhero activities.
Couldn't find the instrumental version on the Youtubes.

Voted for mediocre/shit titles I want for one reason or another, lol. Though I strongly suspect they're not working with Caramel Box anymore, at least. They've been dead silent on that front.

Err, I think you're misinterpreting that. They're not speaking generally, but with the context if JAST. So, if Key ever wanted to localize any of their games with JAST, they'd love to do Angel Beats. Which is just their way of saying it's outside their domain.
There is that possibility, yes. But the phrasing is... interesting nonetheless. I'd say there's a good chance that whoever does this PR work for JAST hadn't been aware of Key's recent foray before Decay pointed it out in a tweet. No point in speculating, but once again, the phrasing is suspicious.

market awareness was never JAST's strong point.
Thanks for cheering me up this gloomy snowy morning!

> Yazuki Miyu [Period - https://vndb.org/c1551] - could have put Yukina here, but Yukina in truth is a likable character that gets a shitty route and has her image destroyed. Miyu is as bad in common route as in her own route. Boring, cheesy, silly, and an extreme moeblob. Yukina's route is more offensive to me, but Miyu is just poor in every sense imaginable.
Oh man, Yukina's route. That was just... weird. Period is weird in general, what with mysteries never getting resolved at all.

Welp, there goes the chance of using a CG from that glorious insect eroge.

Outside, to avoid the dreaded possibility of the best girl getting pregnant, going to Paris, sending you a postcard (inadvertently ruining your tranquil watermelon-eating experience) and then appearing on your doorstep and proclaiming that she's now your wife.
I guess what I mean is, Inside.

Well, someone's got to do it!
Nah, that's actually not true. I'm not, and never seemed like, a cool guy.

[Discussion] Everyone hates OELVNs?
in Visual Novel Talk
Posted
I don't mind them. Although I won't lie and say that I'm NOT suspicious about any OELVN at first... but that's just bad experience, what with the majority of OELVNs so far being rather shit.
The bottom line is, I'm not one of those people who treat anything that comes out of Japan as instantly superior to anything made in the West. You know, the people who also made Murakami Haruki out to be a genius of some kind just because he's Japanese, when he writes like a European and would eternally wallow in well-deserved mediocrity if he were, I dunno, French.
What was I talking about?
