  1. I see! Thanks for the responses folks . Yeah, it seems like every country has different rules, and each state probably differs as well, further complicating things (>3<)~ As a quick note, here locally in Sydney, I heard that our Sydney Opera House is not allowed to be filmed for commercial purposes. In fact, I heard it is not allowed to be filmed at all, but nobody is really that strict about it. A pretty grey area indeed.
  2. Hey folks ! Hope you are all doing great. Recently, I have come across a few "travel" visual novels (travel novels maybe? hoho) like Go Go Nippon or Shan Gui. They feature real locations, with links to wiki pages etc to learn more if the player chooses to. Steins;Gate also takes place in Akihabara, which is a fairly common setting in anime, VNs, etc. The difference is, it seems that in the Steins;Gate VN, it seems like many of the shops are shown exactly as they are. Animate, Taito Station, etc. Is it okay to do that? Maybe they have asked the shops for permission? As I am sure a lot of us have noticed, in American TV dramas, if a character drinks a can of coke, the label would often be covered up. Is it because they want to avoid getting sued by Coca Cola? Some say it is just because they do not want to give Coca Cola free advertising, and that they have no need to fear legal actions against them. Sleeping Dogs would be another example. The game takes place in Hong Kong. Well, who "owns" Hong Kong? Sleeping Dogs also has many street signs throughout the game, but their names are slightly changed from their real life counterparts. The district names, however, remained the same. North Point, Kennedy Town and Central. So who "owns" Kennedy Town, for example? I would be interested in knowing what the rules are. Returning to Go Go Nippon, they can mention Akihabara without changing the name, yet the store names might be a different story. How about Initial D's famous mount Akina? The real place is named Haruna, I believe, and they decided to change that. Thanks for reading the ramble folks ! I wanted to see if anyone had some insights into this matter .
  3. Ah, dang. I already got Steins Gate a few weeks back (>w<)~
  4. I got a great laugh out of that video of those two girls swearing each other out XD. It would be hilarious if the whole game was like that, but it seems like some the other girls are pretty tame .
  5. Ah, so this is the source of all those OriginalRen images I have been seeing around here XDDDDDDDD~
  6. Ah, I see. Guess I didn't miss it, then =3.
  7. Ah, so it accidentally got released before? No wonder why I already see a review for it XD. I will most likely buy this from impulse, but then have no time to read through it (;u;)~ Just got Steins Gate the other day!
  8. Hello everyone . I wanted to let you know that Without Within has just been released for free on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/345650 I am sure a few people here have kindly voted for the game when it was on Greenlight, so I wanted to say thank you . Please feel free to check out it! And if you want to leave a review, that would be a big help. Thanks so much folks .
  9. Nice! It's all right pal I ain't got no life either (;u;)/
  10. Wow, everyone looks great ! All right guys B):
  11. It might also be interesting to see when visual novels started to integrate elements of gameplay, or it could have been done since day one. For me, I discovered it with the first Sakura Taisen .
  12. No need to feel silly at all . I just took a look at the screenshots, and wow, they went for a completely different style there .
  13. Looking forward to seeing that site go up . Hopefully we will see some of the art from this new game, etc. That would give us an idea of the presentation.
  14. Thank you Tiagofvarela! I hope you will like it .
  15. Yep, I have seen playthroughs before, but never one from start to finish. I find them all right. More enjoyable if they have funny voice acting . I like it when the reader expresses his/her thoughts about the game, praising good parts, discussing potential plot holes, etc. It makes for great study material. I don't really dislike it, but I find it less exciting when the video just contains a straight up read without any bias or opinions from the reader. In that case, I might as well just read through it myself! VN Let's Plays are cool, though personally, I doubt I would ever go through one that are upward of a hundred episodes long. Maybe a short VN like Narcissu I would be down .
  16. Good luck with the project! I am okay with the name change, because to be honest, I kept typing Violent Hill instead of Violet Hill. Maybe that shows what kind of person I am (=u=)...........
  17. Hello peeps ! Unhack has just been released on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/340800/ The above link is a possibility because of your voting and support. Especially to you folks here on Fuwanovel. Again, Unhack began almost at the same time as these forums. Thinking back, with all the work involved, your support really gave me the lift I needed to reach the finish line. Thank you so much everyone m(_ _)m. For those who already own a copy of Unhack through bundles, etc, it might be good to hold off on purchasing the game for now, because I will be looking through the list and sending keys to as many people as possible. If you have played the game before, please consider dropping a review, as it would help me out a lot. Thank you so much, all of you (^-^)!
  18. Thank you Sirius . Hey guys, I wanted to ask if anyone is using a Mac by any chance? I want to test out some things regarding the game on that platform. Very happy to send a key over if anyone has a Mac and is able to help out. Thank you tons !
  19. It is certainly worth a try! Abridged anime can be hilarious and I would be keen to see the same thing attempted for VNs .
  20. In many stories, even when they are great, the characters inside are seemingly created for the purpose of expressing a theme, or driving the plot. Though Setsumi is well beyond this, compared to Himeko, I feel like she still steers in that direction. Himeko, on the other hand, I feel would be charming no matter what type of story she fell into. Then, there is my natural affinity toward senpai/onee-san type characters (>//u//<)...
  21. Fantastic stuff . Narcissu is my all time favorite visual novel series and I am glad you enjoyed it so much! As Fiddle mentioned, Narcissu's soundtrack is indeed one of the best. The series has been with me for nearly a decade, and not a year goes by when I do not listen to the soundtrack at least once. Regarding the text taking up more space than in other VNs, it was indeed an interesting approach. However, as the games progressed from 1, 2, 3 and then the PSP title, the set up slowly reverted back to being graphics dominant. I feel that despite their attempts to experiment, in the end, they fell back on pretty pictures. Entirely understandable. Speaking of the PSP release, that one is meant to be the definitive version. I bought a PSP just for this game, and for me, it was absolutely worthwhile. Some extra stories were average, but other bonus scenes I would carry with me forever. At one point, I even read it while I was walking along the street. There, I confessed ! On another note, there is a two volume manga series based on the first game. I usually have no interest in retellings, but I made an exception for Narcissu. It surprised me to discover that the manga has rearranged some scenes, added new perspectives, etc. I can no longer recall the specifics, but I ended up loving the manga adaptation. For me, that is the best version of the tale. The author had a second chance to improve things, and he did a great job with it. Zalor liked Side 2nd less, and Silvz has little interest in the series at all. These different perspectives keep the discussions interesting. For me, I thought the first game was unbeatable, but I ended up loving Side 2nd even more. I like to unofficially rank characters as if they were cars in Gran Turismo. D, C, B, A class, then S class . Only two characters have ever reached S class in my books. The first is Kawana Misaki from ONE, and Himeko from Side 2nd is the other. They reach a level where I stop calling them characters, but instead, simply people. Regarding cliches, to be honest, the second I hear hospitals, terminal illnesses, etc, my eyes are already rolling. Narcissu's execution is what makes me fall in love with the story. Perhaps a part of me hates myself for loving the game so much. It should have been a contrived tear jerker setting, yet I am unable to contain myself, because the story is told in such a sincere fashion. In Side 2nd, the friendship between Himeko and Yuka stirred me more than any romance route I have played. I genuinely wish them the best, and I so desperately want to know what happens to them after the story ends. Again, in the PSP game, there are extra chapters revolving around them two. I see can see the heart pumping through those words. A heart not blocked by any writerly attempts to impress. By the way, I do believe next year (which begins in two hours here!) is Narcissu's 10 year anniversary. I have a packed schedule, but I would love to arrange some celebration. Maybe if I had help, something could be done. Anyone down ? Thanks .
  22. Thank you Tiagofvarela, Rooke, nohman and B0X0R ! There are a lot of things I need to fill out before it is Steam ready, so in terms of release, I would say late January at the earliest. Sirius, are you looking at the online version? That is actually a really old build . With all the Firefox and Chrome updates, it probably made the code incompatible. Trust me I have lost lots of hair over this (;u;)/~ You can download the demo (executable version) by visiting the play section of the website: http://unhack.invertmouse.com/ Thank you!
