  1. It is slightly different, but I also have more praise for creators who take the time to see what her peers are up to as well. There are many, many creators who give the vibe of "everybody sucks except for me and I have no care for what they are doing". For PR, accepting criticism is a good point. Importantly, it never hurts to be thankful when people show love, either. Often, I see people praising someone's work, and the creator says nothing or respond in short, "professional" sentences. Being an actual person is always good in my books.
  2. Yeah, Shan Gui is a KN. By the way, netravelr, just wanted to quickly mention I like what you are doing with Culina. You are doing your own thing. It is all heart and I respect that . A challenging road but one that is your own.
  3. Yeah, I really, really cannot emphasize enough that 99% of the factor is just how pretty the thing looks. Throwing out a bunch of big names will help immensely as well. A demo can be a benefit or, frankly, a risk. No game can ever match a player's imagination. That is the greatest concern.
  4. Well, you can do it too. It is up to you XD. These days, there are just so many other options. Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, many other ways for people to get an overview of your project. If your design is mostly consistent, once you have made a page, turning that into a site would not be that hard, anyway .
  5. Thank you! Unfortunately, I doubt it is contagious to a point where it will cause any changes. Pandering games will continue to top the charts. I hear the game is around an hour long. Okay, that is admittedly a bit short. For five bucks, that will do. So many gamers demand five years of gameplay for a dollar. That is why we have excessive long VNs (or any game for that matter) with severely bloated content. Again, those will continue to do better than the rest. I have been supporting the concise stuff as of late. Shan Gui is very much a tourism type of game, so make the best use of your imagination with those descriptions and it should be an all right time. Just keep the expectations low for the story XD. Undying and Stray Cat, I very much enjoyed World End Economica and actually backed their project. Much respect for picking a unique premise rather than the standard factory produced themes.
  6. Dang, I guess there's no love for the game here, haha (TUT)~ I picked up and tried out the game last night. It is more or less like the reviewers have said. Quite a lot like Go Go Nippon except in China. The two heroines have pretty much no tension so it is a calm sort of tale if you are into that. They more or less exist just to show us around. Artworks are fantastic. Importantly, I very much respect them having Chinese speaking heroines with Chinese names. That is what I meant by folks doing their own thing and being true to who to hey are, while still having love for things they enjoy. This game will probably never get noticed much. It is a short game with a tame journey, so there is no saying is is unfair. Still, I respect it without basing it on popularity or profit.
  7. Yeah, most folks are on the same line of thinking as Mustkill1234, even if they believe otherwise. The too long did not read thing. Most of us just flip through the main page, check out the trailer and make a decision there. It looks like you guys have a higher budget than most indie titles, if you want to refer to yourselves as that at all. With indie games, most of them just have one scrolling page to promote their works. There are probably some templates out there that you can use and just rejig to your liking. Of course, Nayleen is a good option as well . Kickstarter is really a bit of a catch 22. To gather money, you first need to pour a lot of money. Unless it is some wildly original concept [Occulus dating sim or something (-u-)], you just need to dump a lot of money into making a pretty trailer. If creators have relative small targets like mine, then you can get away with mostly solo efforts. Otherwise, yeah, $$$$$$$. Speaking of the campaign, we could talk about what rewards people are most interested in as well? For me, if I am really keen on a project, I go straight to the first reward with physical goods. When I am passionate about something, I want to own something I can hold. Postcards, OST, artbook, physical copy of the game, posters, etc. Those are the common ones. Otherwise, I just pick the option that will get me the game. I never understood the low tier wallpapers etc options that much ~ Of course, money is an issue for us all .
  8. I reckon a single page would do just fine . Most people never bother to click around too much, anyway. Just a single page with that awesome trailer that I am sure is being put together, along with some of those nice art. It can make people think the project is "for real", or something. Never hurts to potentially pick up that domain early .
  9. Well, it is foolish to judge solely on reviews, but according to them, Shan Gui is like Go Go Nippon the China Edition XD. I heard it is incredibly short as well, which is fine by me--no padded content. Not much praises given to the storytelling, but until I check it out for myself, I have no idea ~
  10. I know what type of audience your game is suited for, and that group is massive in number. You should end up with an extremely successful campaign . If I were in this project, I guess one concern I would have is that target audience going oh the game is not from Japan I don't care then. But pretty graphics can probably overcome that.
  11. Just saw this come out on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/307050/ I know next to nothing about it, though. It is only five bucks so I might just make a random purchase XD. Just wanted to see if anyone is interested or has played the game .
  12. Great stuff! Just subbed to your channel . I was doing some game development business stuff throughout the weekend and managed to listen to every one of your podcasts. They were very entertaining! Helpful, too, with the VN discussions and all. Is it possible to make the episodes downloadable (not sure if they are at the moment)? I like listening to podcasts on my commutes, where I have limited internet access.
  13. Haha, I had no idea they reduced the gore because of fan reactions in 999? The horror was what I loved so much about the original game. My main thing with VLR is those 3D models, man. They just look so lifeless. I almost always prefer sprites. Static sprites are fine. Animated models is not exactly high on my requirements list.
  14. None taken man it's all love . I must say I have observed something. How people perceive a game on forums and how the community spends its money seem to be completely different. I have given up on trying to understand.
  15. I do have respect for Violet Hill (I keep typing Violent Hill, which shows the kind of person I am). To my knowledge, it will be a free title that has no funding campaign. All done through passion. I made several VNs way back in college before kickstarter was a thing. That stuff is more rare now. Keep it up . The game's art looks good as well, though I loathe to be one who only cares about pretty graphics. Looking forward to the demo .
  16. 999 was a great game for sure . I got hooked, especially toward the very end, and a little something in a later scene just blew me away. Although, overall, I was far less shocked by the events that unfolded because of Ever17. The two storylines are extremely similar, I feel. I loved how the writing had next to no fluff, truly a rare occurrence in VNs. The puzzles were fun at first but I lost patience after a while, largely because the story was great and I just wanted to keep reading !
  17. If you enjoyed Kurobas, well, the animation will look dated now, but Slam Dunk is a classic that is infinitely more realistic than Kurobas, for better or worse. I am an avid basketball player so you can imagine which one I prefer, though I still really enjoy Kurobas .
  18. Great first episode with credible and emotional content, but then it became too much of a shounen action flick for my liking, unfortunately~
  19. I personally had no interest in 999's gameplay segments, but I loved the story, so the puzzles were actually in my way XD. Utwararerumono would has battle gameplay and the story was pretty all right, I think .
  20. My two would be Narcissu and Ever17. Well, they had the potential to, anyway. I'm not much of a crier XD~
  21. Well, one route in Saya No Uta was much longer, so automatically, I guess it is assumed that is the true ending . Another question would be, if there is a true ending, does that mean all the other endings are meaningless? Well, no, I suppose, because we want to give readers a chance to end up with every heroine, assuming the game in question is a dating sim. Maybe the fact that VNs are often dating sims is how this routes thing became a pattern. Let's say we have a game with a single linear route that is 30 hours long. That, compared to a game with 5 routes that are 5 hours long each, then a true ending that is also 5 hours in total. Of course, which one is better will depend on the story. It is nonetheless something I always ponder . These are the thoughts that make me also wonder if true endings are by design "good". How many games truly make use of the routes idea, and how many just have it because everybody else is doing it? How many of us evaluate how routes are used in a game, and how many automatically think a game is better if it has "choices"?
  22. Thank you arakura ! The Bermuda campaign reached all of its stretch goals. One of them was a comic set in the game's universe. Artist Alastair Sew Hoy and I have just finished producing the comic. Here it is: PDF: http://bermuda.invertmouse.com/downloads/bermuda_comic.zip Album: http://imgur.com/a/EGAxl#0 I have also released a short story: http://bermuda.invertmouse.com/downloads/bermuda_short_story.zip And an artbook: http://bermuda.invertmouse.com/downloads/bermuda_artbook.zip And that marks all of the Bermuda content on the list. Thank you for giving my efforts a chance everyone. I hope to have your support in upcoming projects m(_ _)m.
  23. Thank you everyone (^///^)! I am happy to hang out if you guys are willing to have me .
  24. Yeah, colors definitely have different meanings depending on the culture. Red can mean blood in the Western world, but for the Chinese folks, it represents wealth, etc. Conversely, wedding dresses are white in the West, but in Chinese culture, white is worn during funerals. Anyway, my favorite colors are black and white, if I am allowed to pick two (>w<). I believe in fundamentals rather than flash, and I think black and white represents that .
