Let's check the simple things first: Speakers turned on? Main volume control not muted and set to reasonable level? Ditto for per-application volume control? VN engine's audio settings not muted?

This is very important - many programs may not work if the system path is wrong. The default is apparently something like %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem

I was going for something more subtle and simple, an icon that anyone who knows this site would recognise instantly, also something you can scale down to put into signatures etc. Considered just the 4 fuwacolour stripes + white silhouette of Aaeru in the centre, turned out difficult to make (and not as recognisable) - someone with better skills could try this. Or something like Aaeru-ism...? I started it but this is a community thing, so it's even better to see everyone joining in and continuing it. The +Aaeru versions are great, thanks and keep up the creativity everyone! Here's the smaller versions. Feel free to use as you like...

Understandable. Quality and quantity is always a tradeoff (even for human without MT). To take it to the quantity extreme, the whole VN could be done by MT in a few minutes... but then the accuracy would be very low. On the other hand it may take several years if you decided to go to the other extreme and have multiple checking, editing passes, long discussions on how to translate each line... on one hand you want to get this done and released, on the other hand you want a good translation. It is important to find a balance that meets your expectations and goals. Definitely you should have a familiarity with the language first, but if MT outputs the translation you would have written manually anyway, or something very close, then just copying it and possibly making the changes you need is not really decreasing the accuracy, just improving speed. If it misparses and outputs something completely incorrect or not the translation you want, then don't use it and write your own. @defendos: Tell us when you need a patch done, it seems you're getting close.

Before too much drama erupts... It is rather unfortunate that the "old culture" has basically adopted an anti-technology stance and drove those who use MT to be ostracised and marginalised; if he can be faster and/or more accurate with MT than without, it makes sense to. Of course a better human translator can be more accurate than MT, but otherwise you shouldn't let what the old culture thinks get in the way of how you can best translate with what you have. Is notification not working? You may wish to report the issue here.

Voice recognition today doesn't work too well at true realtime speeds; it will make a lot of homophonic mistakes. Unless your typing speed is really slowing you down (try practicing more and/or get a better keyboard) it probably won't give much improvement - you end up backspacing and correcting just as much.

What version of Windows are you using? The reason you get the second error is because you are trying to patch an installation with half-installed patch, which we do not support. You must apply the patch to a virgin copy of the game. All those 3 files being patched are executables... that hints that something is blocking them being patched. When you get a virgin copy again, right-click each of the downloaded files and make sure this warning isn't there; click to unblock them if they are. Also remember that the patch installer must be run as Administrator.
