Literally everything takes "quite a while" with jast. That "quite a while" might just be a "will take forever"". The good thing i guess is that if Jast announces domething you can pretty much just dhrug and expect it to never see the light of day.

There is nothing I can say against this since Sumaga and Django have been announced like 8 years ago or something absurd like that. But given that fact I think it is surprising that they recently confirmed to still intend to release both titles. Not that it excuses the ridiculous timeframe. My personal guess is that at least Django doesn't run on Win10 right now and they need Nitroplus to make a modern re-release for that like they did with Jingai Makyou. And JAST likely prioritized working on another Nitroplus title before those two since Nitroplus asked them to release their newer games first. (I at least remember JAST mentioning something along those lines at a panel.) They did that with Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi. that was announced and released while nothing happened on the Sumaga/Django front.

In any case JAST now aims to announce their licenses closer to release like their last game SaDistic BlooD that they announced two (?) weeks before the release. But their old backlog is going to haunt them for a while longer. At least Majikoi is supposed to release this year.

  2. Here is a list of translated Nitroplus titles:

Phantom of Inferno (Translation is very old and from what I heard not very good.)

    Kikokugai (Fantranslation)

Zanmataisei Demonbane (Official Release by JAST)

Saya no Uta (Official Release by JAST)

    Hanachirasu (Official Release by JAST)

    Dra†KoI (Fantranslation)

    Kaigen Seito (Fantranslation)

Chaos;Head (Fantranslation and the extended Chaos;Head Noah version is being workd on)

    Steins;Gate (Official Release by JAST)

    SoniComi (Official Release by JAST)

    Guilty Crown Lost Christmas (Fantranslation)

    Phenomeno (Fantranslation)

    Robotics;Notes (Official Release)

    STEINS;GATE ELITE (Official Release)

Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi. (Official Release by JAST)

And then there is Nitro+Chiral the BL branch of Nitroplus:

Togainu no Chi (Official Release by JAST BLUE)

Lamento -Beyond the Void- (Fantranslation but an official release is planned by JAST BLUE)

    Lamento Treasure Disc (Fantranslation)

Sweet Pool (Official Release by JAST BLUE)

DRAMAtical Murder (Fantranslation but an official release is planned by JAST BLUE)

That makes 20 translated titles by Nitroplus. As you can see Nitroplus is partnered with JAST who publish their games in english, so If you are looking for a specific title they should be first ones to ask. Unless it is a title of the Science Adventure series (Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate and so on) then it is likely out of their hands.

And besides the listed titles the following Nitroplus titles are getting a translation as we speak.

Zoku Satsuriku no Django -Jigoku no Shoukinkubi- (Official Release by JAST, but it is said that the title will take quite a while until it is released)

Sumaga (Official Release by JAST, but it is said that the title will take quite a while until it is released)

Chaos;Head Noah (Fantranslation in the works)

Lamento -Beyond the Void- and DRAMAtical Murder are confirmed to get offical releases by JAST BLUE.

Slow Damage (Official Release by JAST BLUE)

There is another title that is regularly rumored to get an release but since there is nothing official it is not going to get added to the lists above.

  3. Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is getting an english release!

    https://twitter.com/muvluvseries/status/1319927555806277632

Âge is holding an online event right now and this announcement is part of the event.

You can watch the event here:

As the title says the event is in Japanese but on this discord you can find an English interpretation.

    Discord link: http:// https://discord.gg/E8UApXt

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien has been the most requested Age title in the last survey but I the runner ups are also interesting:

    muvluvresults.png

The event is still ongoing so we can expect some more Muv-Luv news like news about the anime adaptation or maybe something to the Alternative sequel Muv-Luv Integrate.

  4. So recently DMM opened up an English storefront with the name Johren. So far they offer primarily Free2play games and some untranslated VNs. Iwaihime should be the first English translated VN available there.

In any case they have now asked for feedback. Here is the tweet by ShiraVN that is the english publishing site of DMM:

    https://twitter.com/shira_vn/status/1318028914942373889

And here is the direct link to the survey:

    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1aZCpqRPNsi96RBCwiaIR1v76dvoVh_eAa-6odvAqAfE/viewform?edit_requested=true

If you have the time tell them that you are interested in translated VNs and not just F2P titles and tell them what VN you want to see translated.  While DMM has quite a lot of licenses under their umbrella (check out DMM Games and Hobibox and all of their subsidiaries on VNDB), they already picked licenses from other companies so you don't need to restrict your wishes to just DMM games.

  5. ShiraVN has now announced when exactly the game os going to release.

    Oct. 23, 2020 10AM PDT

And you can win a free copy in their give-away on Twitter:

    https://twitter.com/shira_vn/status/1317857976405774338

And since it hasn't been mentioned here John Hooper / Lemnisca handled the translations for Iwaihime. They worked on Root Double, Dies irae and Raging Loop before.

Furthermore the release offers the extra content of the console release as an DLC on steam.

Oh and the Demos apparently skips a scene so keep than in mind if you played the Demo and buy the full release.

  6. Besides the five Hololive English Vtubers (Mori Calliope, Ninomae Ina'nis, Takanashi KiaraWatson Amelia and Gawr Gura ) there is Pikamee Amano that reguarly speaks English that I know of.

I believe the "v-tuber hole" everyone speaks of is when you start to become knowledgeable of previous events that get referenced, or memes, or new made up setting details that become inside jokes.

I thought that refers to huge amount of time spend/wasted if you try to keep up to date and watch the streams of one Vtuber or a group of Vtubers.

On Discord? How does that work? I'm completely unfamiliar with that platform.

I am not going to lie I haven't used the Discord store myself, but you need to download the Discord program here: https://discord.com/new/download

And then use this link to join Mangagamer server: https://discord.gg/Xb28rjc

Once you are there you need to click on Bokuten under Games and should be able to buy it with Paypal or a credit card. But after joining the Mangagamer server I am sure there people that can help if something doesn't work, there are usually staff members of Mangagamer online.

Shit... I didn't make it in time to get it...

It would be nice, at least for the weirdo like me, if, once the VN gets removed from Steam, publishers would offer all-ages version on their own storefronts along with the adult one.

I actually was interested in all-ages version of Bokuten... Yeah, I know, I'm a sick pervert :P

The All Age version is still available on Discord so you can still get that version if you want to.

And with Steam I don't know what to say anymore. It's just so disappointing but I only expect more of it in the future.

Isn't Light supposed to have gone down with their owner Greenwood? They sound pretty lively and full of plans for a dead company.

Though the Silverio series certainly sounds interesting.

Silverio Ragnarok (the 3rd game in the series) was already in production when the parent company of Light Greenwood went under. Even in the statement of closing down they alluded to a plan to still finish Silverio Ragnarok, and that came true with the help of Ares, the parent company of Windmill. (They are also listed on the page for 1st and 2nd game but I don't what role they played back then, possible the All Age console releases?) At some point apparently also Nexton got involved in getting Silverio Ragnarok out. Silverio Raganarok released this year in April a year after Greenwood closed down and the Twitter account has been active all this time to promote Silverio Raganrok. We also know that the store of Light has been handled by Akabei Soft since Greenwood closed down. (That was in the statement when they closed down.)

So in the end we don't really know who holds the licenses for Light games and who we are talking to on Twitter, but Light as we know it doesn't exist anymore. Masada and G Yuusuke are working on Avestan, the story that was supposed to become Pantheon. I don't know if the team behind the Silverio series is still around after finishing Raganrok for example.

My guess is that we talked to someone from the Ares side of the Business that probably have the Silverio rights (maybe not alone who knows) and that's why the person said:

    Quote

Regarding the localization plan for the "相州戦神館學園 Series" which you asked me about, I am also thinking about it now, but I haven't decided yet. Because the company that owns the rights to the game was not in a position to consider localization.

That sounds like the rights to Senshinkan series are in different hands and that company doesn't have the means to do a translation. (In contrast to the Silverio series). But who knows. That is only my interpretation.

At least we know that the rights to Silverio and Senshinkan are in someone's hands and they are considering translating them and looking for feedback. That is at least better than what we knew before and the rights don't look they are in limbo or in the hands of company that doesn't want to do anything with them. Of course that doesn't mean that anything comes out of this.

  10. A user asked the Japanese Twitter of Light (the creators of Dies Irea) about Silverio Vendetta and Soushuu Senshinkan Gakuen Hachimyoujin or more specifically about both series and they answered in English.

    Here is what they said:

    https://twitter.com/light_staff_tw/status/1268532698336784387

    and

    https://twitter.com/light_staff_tw/status/1268532937592537089

    and lastly

    https://twitter.com/light_staff_tw/status/1268533041565220864

Since their parent Company Greenwood shut down last year, we didn't know if there is any chance for the Light catalogue to see a translation. So this is really good news and if you have any interest in these titles or titles like Dies irae or Fate/Stay Night, please consider telling them on twitter to let them know that there is interest! They also ask about ideas of how to make it happen.

  11. I edited in the Sekai Project announcements. Once they tweet them out or make news post maybe I can link some more info but until then here is just a quick update. I hope I didn't miss anything. The stream also had Q&A section that was interesting as well as some update to some of their previous announcements.

  12. Anime Expo is usually the place where a lot of the VN Publishers drop their news, but this year AX is cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. But that doesn't mean that there are no news to share.

    Âge

Since this news round will be a lot less centralized than usual I am certain that I will miss some news, so please post what ever news I miss in this thread!

I don't think Nekonyan had planned to attend AX, so I am unsure if there will be any news from them.

  13. Since ANIPLEX refuse to comment on the fact that they region-lock Adabana Odd Tales in large parts of Europe I really don't feel like supporting them at all.

Here is the Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1094820/Adabana_Odd_Tales/

If they would at least acknowledge it, I probably wouldn't be as pissed off, but with them not saying anything...

When I first heard about the ANIPLEX titles, I was optimistic since we got a new VN Publisher and the titles sounded interesting, but now I am pissed off when ever these titles are mentioned and ANIPLEX ranks among the worst VN Publishers for me personally.

I would urge anyone to think twice about supporting ANIPLEX. If their method of region-blocking is successful (in that their games still sell despite it) I can see this happening more often in the future. (Since they probably paid less for the license in return.) And I honestly don't think the VN scenes needs any more problems.

Sorry to mention this in your thread when your excited about ATRI, but I needed to say this. I won't come complain about it here again.

Some h-scenes (which are required to get out of the loop for the first time), several other scenes that happen in the apartment. Also, the scene where the god calls you for the first time is more or less random, I believe, and it's not in the menu, obviously.

    Spoiler

Maybe. Naturally at the beginning I just let them come randomly.  And obviously I regularly checked if completing a scene triggered something new so I let it continue  (without loading a new scene immediately) after reading a scene that I had loaded.  I am pretty sure that you can complete the game if you do that while using the save points. But the structure of the game makes it a bit difficult to check back on that, so maybe there is something that won't work. Afterwards I learned that I must have missed some scenes because I played along with Miyuki and never got her angry. But I don't think I missed a h-scene. I have 4 in the gallery. One of which she tells you ask her at a different scene. But you can just load that scene and it works.

EDIT: Looking at a CG gallery online I guess I have missed like at least one h-scene with Miyuki, so what ever I did was probably no the best approach. But I finished the game while heavily using the load menu, but of course I did check if finishing them triggered something new (which for me goes without saying).

I got to the part where Myiuki keeps me in the hotel bedroom after talking to "me". Aoi is gone, and the text boxes are awful. But even though I pick different choices, the game has started to repeat scenes to the point I don't seem to move forward anymore. What do I need to do to continue the game?

Btw, Aoi talks to me when I end the game. Should I end it more often?

    Spoiler

You can either go forward and get random scenes or you can use the load menu and select the different scenes (that would be chosen at random if you just progress) while doing that you should find new things and options to chose.

That is kind of a weak message though, isn't it? "Don't play all the routes / go for 100% completion because if heroines were self-aware and managed to keep memories between routes they would feel betrayed." Well they aren't, the content in question would exist regardless of whether I read it or not, and there are very few hints at why the behaviour condemned by the game would be harmful in normal eroge. I know there is some more or less subtle criticism in the game aimed at the general dehumanising nature of these games regarding the treatment of their heroines, but it gets pretty muddled by all the finger-pointing at the reader.

This even gets reflected in the way Totono builds up to its climax in that it gives YOU, the reader, a pretty standard eroge character arc. By learning all about Mizuki after being "trapped" by her, you have to show you learned your lesson by beating the quiz. You get rewarded with the rather typical pre-(story-)climax love confession and h-scene and then that gives you the power to overcome the final hurdle by escaping her and making your big decision (all while being constantly reminded what lesson you learned). Even in its deconstruction (or whatever you want to call it) of eroge, Totono unquestioningly reproduces a lot of the tropes of the genre and then makes a half-baked moralistic point rather than asking what makes players pick the kind of choices the game considers undesirable. The game just kind of assumes that eroge readers are sociopaths for being completionist.

I also think this combination is one of the main reasons why Totono is generally liked by the VN-community while DDLC gets quite a lot of hate. In Totono the player gets the easy way out. The game rarely criticises eroge as a genre in a substantial way, instead aiming at the reader. Yet the assumptions the game makes about its audience border on caricature to a degree that you can either assume its morals don't apply for you, or you get redeemed by the VN's climax. This results in the audience neither having to actually reflect on their gaming behavior nor having to adjust their evaluation of the genre itself. DDLC doesn't give you any of these ways out. It makes a point out of how it doesn't matter what choices you pick, while at the same time condemning the way dating-sims objectify their heroines (they are literally game files and their personality traits are just stats Monika can manipulate). It basically tells you that you are complicit just by playing these kinds of games.

    That is an interesting point.

    Spoilers for Totono and DDLC:

    Spoiler

After thinking about Totonos ending, I don't think I take much of a message out of it. But I still liked it, it made me emotional attached to Miyukis character. I felt sorry for what happened to her, but to be honest not guilty cause there was nothing the player could have done saving her from this, except for dropping the game after the first ending. But there are people that get really invested into the heroines of VN and I could see the story being a real gut punch for them. Seeing their choices cause sorrow for a character. (Even if they had no choice.) In the end respected the story enough to not read the alternative ending. Furthermore I enjoyed the aspect of the fourth wall breaking. I found that interesting. In Totono as well as in DDLC.

As said above I read DDLC after Totono and I found your interpretation interesting, and I can see how you can come to that interpretation but to be honest, if that was the point they are trying to make (Dating Sims [And VNs too?] objectify their characters), they did a poor job with it, because honestly I would have never thought about that. DDLC comes across as wanting to show some gore moments for cheap thrills. Especially after Monika alters the game. Random Eyes exploding and stuff like that. For me that undermined what ever message they wanted to send. I was more pissed of how they touched on serious problems like depression and completely devalued them by the aforementioned and the fact that you can't trust the characters since they are manipulated, so why take them serious. Also I never noticed the theme that your choices don' have any impact. I thought about that after the Daresora chapter but not here. Maybe I need to think about DDLC again. In any case thanks for you interpretations it was interesting to read.

  17. On May 27th Sol Press announced in a Blog post that they will not license any new VNs and but are intending to release the titles that they have licensed.

    Here is their quote:

    Quote

To further our efforts with our book publishing, we are, regrettably, going to be phasing out of visual novel publishing. As of right now, we intend to finish all announced projects, but we currently do not have any plans to pick up more VN licenses (with the exception of sequels if demand is sufficient). There is simply too much uncertainty surrounding their publishing in terms of things like releasing on Steam, which is by and far the largest VN distribution platform available, in an already niche market. Couple that with the extremely high cost of licensing, production, and additional fees, and it simply does not bode well for our long-term goals and release schedules.

As much as stepping away from VNs is a necessary move for us, everyone at Sol Press loves the medium, and we have hopes that we don’t have to stop publishing VNs entirely. If at all possible, once we get things sorted in regards to publishing our light novels and manga, we’d like to keep our toes dipped in, so to speak, and pick up the occasional VN. Doing so will depend on numerous factors, so we don’t want to make any promises that this is something that will happen, but we’re all such big fans that we definitely don’t want to drop the medium as a whole. We’ll work to keep you updated on what happens in that regard.

    Link: https://solpress.co/blog/803/where-we-are-and-where-were-going

Then today after silently removing it from their website and being asked about it on Discord, they announced that they won't translate The Future Radio and the Artificial Pigeons.

You can find the second blog post here: https://solpress.co/blog/846/news-regarding-laplacians-the-future-radio-and-the-artificial-pigeons

I just wanted to share that information here.

Personally I am disappointed with both news. I know that Sol Press doesn't have the best reputation, but with them gone there will be fewer VN translated in the future. I personally was looking forward to The Future Radio and the Artificial Pigeons. and Nukitashi, so I am especially disappointed by the second news. And it is a really bad look that they have to already walk back on something that they said 10 days ago. Even if a staff member explained on Discord that they said they where only intending to finish all announced projects.

I guess that is just the reality of the VN translation business.

  18. I have added a simple poll.

Even though I got spoiled on certain aspects of the story before hand (but It was my fault in that case), I still enjoyed the story a lot. But I think I would have enjoyed the story more If gone in completely blind, so If you can avoid spoilers I would recommend to do so. It is definitely something quite different when compared to the usual romance driven VNs, but that is what makes it special. It's really hard to talk about this titles without spoilers. But I can only recommend the VN to people that have some experience with VNs. I don't think it would work as your first VN. If that is the case I would recommend giving the title a chance. And in regard to the "tag discussion" in this thread, I personally don't enjoy that, but still like this VN.

Overall I am continued to be impressed by Nitroplus titles.

I guess now it's time to read DDLC?
