Agobarrier, the writer of shuffle Passed away
BookwormOtaku replied to Kawasumi's topic in Visual Novel Talk
As I've stated before I enjoyed Shuffle! for what it was: a simple moege that had a likable enough cast of characters. It was good enough to be entertaining and I hope the guy got to enjoy at least some recognition for it. His creation may not have been gold or even silver standard, but if you ask me there's nothing wrong with bronze. May he rest in peace. -
If this means MG and Navel have broken things off I'll gladly be another of the few to consider it bad news. Soul Link I found to be an enjoyable little scifi story and Shuffle! I'm willing to defend as being good for a simple moege. It's no classic, but I was entertained. Still, I can't help but wonder about this announcement. I mean nothing in it seems to hint at things turning sour between the two companies, and isn't it a little strange that only these two are going away and the FDs which have kind of an important connection to one of them are staying? Not to mention both of these games have expanded editions, one of which has been heavily requested, plus both of these expanded releases did originally start out as nonero console ports, and there's still this hint from not too long ago... Could I be grasping at straws here? Sure, but I can't help but be a bit suspicious

If a good machine translator ever is made I wonder how long it'll take for it to go HAL 9000/Skynet/Ultron on us for mainly using it to translate porn

Finished chapter 7 of Princess Evangile and once again I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this chapter. I swear Konomi's like an adorable Michiru... let's just hope whenever that fandisk releases she'll have a better route than Michiru Anyway from sidenotes: 1) In light of Ayaka's pick for additional learning material, did anyone else think "Could have been worse, she could have picked 50 Shades of Gray" ? (though considering how hilariously badly written that book is, Konomi reading that out loud may have been even funnier ) 2) Maybe it's just because I'm also working on finishing Tsujidou-san no Virgin Road at the moment, but it's kind of weird that Ayaka talks the same way as Azusa.

Has anyone played Sunrider: Liberation Day
BookwormOtaku replied to solidbatman's topic in Visual Novel Talk
So does that make this the VN equivalent of the Mass Effect 3 debacle? -
Just remembered another that's available in english, if you don't mind yaoi there's No, Thank You!!
-
Well, MinDead Blood and its fandisk kind of have what you want, though it features more in the FD than the main game. If you want something in english there's the Rance games. Suzukuri Dragon could have what you want, but I haven't played it only heard of it.

What Are You Watching: Movie and TV Show Edition
BookwormOtaku replied to Zenophilious's topic in General Discussion
Been watching Fuller House...and I have to admit I'm liking it. Is it as cheesy as a Mac'nCheese Stuffed Crust Pizza with a side of garlic cheese bread? Oh yes, but there is an odd charm about it, plus the actors have pretty good chemistry. I'll admit it has its flaws, namely if you despised the original show this is definitely not for you, but if you at least liked parts of it it might be worth checking out (bear in mind I'm saying all this as someone who enjoyed the show as a kid and still kind of like it, but watching the reruns when there's nothing else on freely admits there are a number of episodes that don't hold up). One other thing, if you do decide to give the show a chance don't let the first episode be your only impression because that one is the weakest so far since even I think it goes a bit overboard with its call backs to the original show. -
Cleared chapter 6 of PE, and I'm surprised to see it was better than the last one. Some genuinely funny scene and good character moments and interactions. I especially that quieter scene of Masaya, Ritsuko and Ayaka going back to the school. I'm starting to be cautiously optimistic about the next chapter. On a side note, anyone else besides me jokingly wonder if Masaya's related to this guy every time you hear his surname (it's even written the same way )?: https://vndb.org/c3864
-
So has anyone else preordered the game? I'll admit I did, mainly because worst case scenario I can make fun of the engrish whenever I end up reviewing it
-
Okay, cleared chapter 5 of PE and I can say this is a chapter I wholly enjoyed reading. The jokes were finally consistently funny and it finally feels like the game's taking advantage of having a large cast by giving us some good character interactions.

Gotten to chapter 5 in PE and it's starting to get somewhat more entertaining' Konomi isn't as annoying as I thought she'd be. She's like the poster child for the saying "Bless your heart" . Though I have to say at times I'm finding myself almost missing Harukoi Otome...which I never thought possible

Still in chapter 2 of Princess Evangile, and the info dump is strong here too. On the plus side I've met Ruriko, and seeing as even from that intro scene she has better chemistry with Masaya than any of the heroines so far makes the knowledge of her unwinnability very grating. Though one thing that's kind of bugging me with the school's problem: If low attendance is a problem then why not try starting a foreign exchange program? Seeing as the school is Catholic (though from the few scenes I've gotten I get the sneaking suspicion the writers' knowledge of the religion is Wikipedia based at best) you could probably find willing attendees from say the Phillipines or maybe even Hawaii which aren't that far away from Japan. True you'd have to put in money for scholarships, transportation, etc. but it would probably pay off. I admit this is probably nitpicking, it's just over the years I think I've been training my brain to find ways around scenarios in stories where the writing says there's only one way out of a situation. Edit: Gotten further, man this school makes the Sith Empire's academy seem more friendly and welcoming, and at least half the people there want their fellow students and teachers dead. Which does explain why the aforementioned idea probably would have failed.

With a demo this bad maybe we'll see Jim Sterling play it sometime soon

Anime so don't have sequel but deserved sequel
BookwormOtaku replied to Novel21's topic in Anime/Manga Talk
Baccano! because I know there's more novels beyond what the anime covered...and more Isaac and Miria is always nice. Outlaw Star because its ending kind of hinted at a sequel. -
VN's whose sequel is better than it's prequel
BookwormOtaku replied to Arkamondal's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Kansen 3 was better than the previous 2, I liked Taimanin Asagi 2 better than the first game, and Shinsetsu Ryouki no Ori Dai 2 Shou was also better than the first game. BTW, since it's coming out sometime soon how does Seinarukana compare to Aselia? -
What Are You Watching: Movie and TV Show Edition
BookwormOtaku replied to Zenophilious's topic in General Discussion
Okay, I want to see this matchup -
Finally gotten around to playing Princess Evangile and made it through chapter 1. The prologue was fine though chapter 1 sure liked laying on the information, here's hoping chapter 2 will be more interesting. On a side note, playing PE for some reason has me thinking about Grisaia...mainly in wondering how long Yuji would last through the trial period if he somehow ended up in this setting

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
BookwormOtaku replied to solidbatman's topic in Gaming Talk
Firing up my DS to play Super Robot Wars Original Generation and I'm liking the gameplay and mech designs...though I wonder if I should have picked Kyosuke to play as instead. -
Devils Devel Concept eng peatch 20%
BookwormOtaku replied to Okami's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
I've played all but Mei's route (still need to find time to finish it) and I can say this is a very good game...but I pity anyone who takes this on to translate. While the slice of life scenes are generally simple enough reads, anything having to do with this game's lore is where it gets complicated and DDC is heavy on lore, so much so I'm amazed there hasn't been a sequel or another game set in its universe. There's also the fact that there are times when the POVs switch to other characters and I'm not sure how you'd properly translate that considering that POV has a noticeably different narration than Sora's and there's a bit of a "guess who" element there as you consider who it might be until that character has a spoken line or sometimes it's not until later on in a different scene that you find out who it is. -

What Are You Watching: Movie and TV Show Edition
BookwormOtaku replied to Zenophilious's topic in General Discussion
Got back from Deadpool as well and ditto for me, it was everything I would want a Deadpool movie to be. Here's hoping they can afford more X-men in the sequel -
Looks interesting, though ideally I'd rather see a take on this similar to the Namco Cross series (call me greedy if you like )
