That's a good point.  Japanese developers are used to front-loaded sales that die out immediately after the first month.  English VN sales, especially on Steam, aren't like that.  They have a long tail.  Most of their sales will likely occur over the next 2 years or so.

I like that they are so honest with it. Actually, I don't really think they did something particular wrong here, the situation has simply changed. The same thing is happening on Kickstarter too.
MangaGamer has already reported several times now that since the whole Steam hype started, they got a lot of new account creations, most likely from Steam customers. So the Steam customers who were really interested in VN's have already moved on and went to the retail sites of the big VN publishers like MangaGamer and Jast. It tells a lot that the several year old nukiges Eroge and ImoPara are almost permanently in the top five for ages now. And the Steam users who didn't really get warm with VN's are less likely to buy another one. So the 'Steam only' customer group got much smaller either way.
And while newer VN customers are now happily digging through MG's and Jast's game libraries, the older VN veterans just don't get enough from a short and simple title like Corona Blossom, especially with so many quality titles released by MG and Sekai. In principle, it happened what most people wanted, quality and a known and popular brand matters now much more than before.
Or in short words: Welcome to the world of competition!

Unlikely. MG's Kouryuu made a statement about that topic about a year ago on his ask.fm account.
In short, they don't release Kira Kira on Steam because they consider the translation not good enough for it.
But a re-translation or re-edit would probably not be worthwhile because the time would be better spent on a new release.

Made a bit more progress with Koiken otome. At first I was excited to learn that the MC was powerful - but of course, the reader gets cock-blocked with the "story driven" nature of it.
I figured it would be something passive where he strengthens those around him - which I wasn't exactly wrong about - but the method, well...lol...

Turning off the music and creating my own playlist seems to help me get into it a bit more, gotta agree with FTB and Chaosraven when it comes to atmosphere and music.

EDIT: Kaoru is turning out to be a very dangerous character - I'm starting to question many things

Even if the music is usually one of the parts which isn't talked about that much it can easily make or break a VN. It's arguably the medial part with the strongest atmospheric impact.
The audio part doesn't really seem to be a particular strength of recently released titles, since I wasn't exactly blown away by the music in Supipara either.
I think at least half of Key's secret to their success is, that they usually have a very good soundtrack.

ChaosRaven got a reaction from Vorathiel in Supipara - Alice the magical conductor. Chapter #01 - Spring Has Come!, released!
I’ve finished reading the first chapter of Supipara now, the story arc centered around Sakura.

It’s somehow hard to judge a VN if there’s still 80% missing, on the other hand each chapter is supposed to be one complete heroine route and therefore should be rated as such. However, the ending was quite sudden and felt like something like a closing chapter would follow. Not so unlikely considering that there are 4 chapters for heroine routes but 5 in total.
But so far it was kind of a so so experience. Naturally, the visual presentation was most impressive. Although, even if it sounds like heresy to criticize something in that area, some facial expressions of certain characters in various situations looked kinda goofy, especially the ones from the protagonist’s mom, but also Angeline had some weird expressions. Besides that, even if the lighting was pretty awesome in general, a bit too many scenes suffered from over-blending, making them so bright that it did almost hurt in the eyes after a while, especially in combination with the white font. Still, the visuals were certainly a highlight of the VN.
Unfortunately, the sound department wasn’t as stellar as the visual one. Especially the slice of life music tracks were quite dull and reminded me of Princess Evangile which had similar problems in that area. I therefore exchanged the music with one of my ‘emergency albums’ for such situations after a while which made everything appear much more dramatic. But in general I don't like to do that, because my own music doesn’t adjust depending on the situation.
Character-wise it was typical Minori - some were awesome while others stayed a bit bland. Alice stood out the most and there’s little doubt that she’s the main heroine. She’s very similar to Yuuko in ef or Erica in Eden and probably the most characteristic ‘Minori’ character. They are extremely good in writing that type and she’s so unique that they could almost claim a copyright for her. I’m not even sure hot to categorize her - I guess smart-dere nails it best. Overall, it was just a pleasure interacting with her although it could be criticized that she was stealing the other characters the show too much. Pretty much only Momiji could keep up with her, while Sakura and Angeline appeared rather bland in comparison, even if at least Angeline had some funny scenes (like the photograph scene ).
The story was slice of life for the most part so far, which is still not exactly the biggest strength of Minori. And I think there was a lot of wasted potential with the witch scenario. It’s revealed so early that I don’t even have to use spoiler tags for it and none of the characters really seemed to care about it for whatever reasons. I know stories where just the ‘possibility’ that someone 'might' be a witch already makes for a highly interesting and tense story. But if even the involved characters don’t seem to care, why should the reader?!
The romance also seemed a bit too rushed and the witch scenario wasn’t really used for an interesting story development yet. About half of the first chapter was more or less the common route introducing the characters, so there wasn’t much time for the Sakura specific arc anymore. That’s also a bit of a problem with the chapter structure for different routes instead of a continued story. You usually need a common route before the split to the heroine routes and I wonder how the other chapters will deal with that. Will it be repeated each time with slight variations like in Umineko, or will it be handled in a different way?
Anyway, so far I’d rate the VN with a careful 7/10, mostly because Alice and the visuals compensate for a lot of shortcomings in the story department.
Heroine ratings so far: Alice > Momiji > Angeline > Sakura

There is an interview with the staff of Supipara. I thought it was quite interesting, so I decided to post it below.
    Interview with Supipara Staff
Oh, I forgot to said this beforehand but apparently each chapter will based on the meaning for each letter that formed Supipara. Since first letter mean Smile, then Sakura Chapter here was also called Smile Story here (It also stated at the end of the chapter). Of course Hotaru Chapter will be called Peace Story (Kaitsu said that it's ironic that the sadist Hotaru had the chapter called Peace Story here, although it will be quite interesting here). As for the heroine for both of Passion and Love part, obviously we don't know because Supipara was scrapped by minori after the failure here.

Surprise! Although this time we had slightly more hype than what we've typically been getting, the suddenness still feels jarring. The game will unlock on Steam in approximately four hours from the time of this post, according to Steam's countdown timer.
Many of you may remember the demo debacle from this spring. JAST seemed to have taken that criticism to heart and really spent a lot of time heavily retooling the translation. I've talked to @meru, the new main translator on the team dedicated to fixing the translation, and it sounds like a lot of work has been put into making it better.

Apparently it has more than 4 MB of text so it should be the longest VN they've ever translated, since Koihime and Evangile just had about 3 MB. (Not sure about Umineko though...)
VNDB length infos are pretty unreliable since everything >= 2 MB seems to get the long description.
Tokyo Babel has about 2 MB of text and is listed as long. But Shin Koihime Musou too with almost 6 MB (!!!) of text.
So yeah, VNDB length infos suck pretty hard.

DC3 definitely progressed slower than a VN of its size normally does even with one translator. MG has had similarly sized projects that have progressed much faster, such as Princess Evangile, which was announced and released within the duration DC3 was in translation for. And even that was delayed for like six months during the beta testing process. Kouryuu often has other duties at MangaGamer as their head translator, though, which probably accounts for DC3's delays. I don't think anyone would dispute this, Kouryuu himself was saying how they were aiming for a 2014 release back when they announced it. They really were expecting it to finish and release it a good two years ago. Shit happens, though.
Aaeru was basically machine translating it. You shouldn't use her speed as a judge of anything.
I don't fully trust that DC3 is as long as MangaGamer would lead us to believe. From what I can tell, it's about on par with Princess Evangile and many of the other long-ish moege getting translated out there. It's not some incredible epic of unprecedented length. And if MangaGamer's forums were still up you could see posts in 2013 from Kouryuu stating they were aiming for a spring/summer 2014 release. Again though, I don't really blame MangaGamer and I'm not harping on them for this.
As for SP, they haven't really been announcing any Japanese VN translations outside of cons for the last few months to my knowledge.

Too bad Conjueror couldn't announce his secret project yet since it seems to be a rather highly rated title.
Still, I'm almost convinced it's NOT Eustia since he's so desperate to make everyone believe it is...

Wow, that was a really impressive list of announcements from MangaGamer. Had almost a bit of a 'The Empire strikes back' feeling to it after Sekai's spectacular announcements at AX. At last, they go for some real high quality stuff.
    Hapymaher

Eh, really?! I installed the Japanese version yesterday, so I can just uninstall it again?! Lol, I don't care.  That's certainly my announcement of the year. I guess MangaGamer thought when Jast can NTR Flowers away from them then they can do the same to Sekai Project. They might have preferred to do it with Jast as revenge, but Jast probably doesn't really have anything worth NTRing away.
    Sorcery Jokers

Okay first thing: Yay I guessed correctly months ago, it was really Sorcery Jokers!!!  I had my eyes on Third Eye titles for a while and this is supposed to be their best one so far. It got even in the top ten Getchu award list if I remember right. Not sure about the double protagonist thing since I'm not a huge fan of that, but it's still a must buy for me.
A Kiss for the Petals - The New Generation!

So that's the yuri title they teased on twitter. Not exactly surprising, though in contrast to their last Sono Hanabira title this one has adult content. Not sure if it'll get a Steam release therefore. Still, not really a release that interests me, but it's nice for Sono Hanabira fans.
Shiei no Sona-Nyl -What a Beautiful Memories-

So they'll release yet another Liar-Soft title?! Seems like Liar-Soft is slowly getting one of MG's more reliable partners and not just a one-night stand like so many others. It's Sakurai's supposed best title so I guess Sakurai fans will be happy. On the other hand, I heard the same about Gahkthun and it didn't really turn out that way. Anyway, not really a title that interests me, so it's not important for me.
Rance VI - Zeth Houkai - and Rance 5D - Hitoribocchi no Onna no Ko -

So this was the inevitable announcement of a Rance title. Not sure if all Rance fan-boys will be happy that they won't get a newer one but a double release of 5 & 6 is certainly the best way to not let the old translations go to waste. But at least Rance 6 seems to be a bigger title at least. I'm also pretty sure that newer Rance titles will follow, probably alreay next year.
So, well done MangaGamer! At least for the titles I'm interested in, Sekai's and MG's announcements are fairly even now for this year.
