finiteHP reacted to Darklord Rooke in KARAKARA, Dovac, Twitter wars, and overcharging for adult content
That’s a flawed idea, and it’s flawed because you’re attributing worth to amount of content. This is probably the same sort of idea Key has (quality equals number of lines) when they pump out their horrendously bloated VNs. In fact, many content creators will tell you the same thing, which is that charging proportionally for items due to ‘content’ is not the way to go.
If Rowling withheld the 2nd last chapter of Harry Potter from everyone, the bit with the climax in it, how much would that be worth to people? I'd wager the number of lines has very little to do with it.
Whether Sekai overcharges for the erotic content or not is probably related to business decisions that I’m not going to comment on. But the idea of setting a price for one version of the story based (loosely or not) on how many additional lines or CGs are added is something I'm loath to endorse. For a whole crapload of reasons. Reasons most of the community don't think about. Sure, companies abuse this by setting the price of expansion or additional content arbitrarily high, but isn't this solved by traditional market pressures? If companies set the price of additional content too high, people won't buy and they'll lose money? And if people do buy, then it's obviously not too high?
The alternative 'pricing for amount of content' isn't really a road I want to head down.

Because people in general are nitpicky nimrods that think the sky is falling just because color can also be spelled colour, or that Visual Novels can be classified as games, and that tsun tsuns are teh best

finiteHP got a reaction from WinterfuryZX in Dharker Studios is planning to make 8 games this year?
Ah yes, Echo Tokyo.  I backed the first Kickstarter back before it became obvious how horrible AJTilley/Dharker Studios is.  I don't remember all the "issues" that came up, but here are the ones I remember.  At first it was going to be a large sandbox VN with a manga prequel.  The first problem was that the artist he had hired took a large amount of money and just disappeared.  This, if I remember correctly prompted the second Kickstarter.  His next artist couldn't meet deadlines, but because he liked the artist's works so much he just kept giving the guy more time.  He then decided the game should be split into two parts in hopes that the first part could be out before 2020 and then made them one again, and split them again, and merged again, etc.  He eventually decided to get other artists to make the secondary characters and then had problems with one of those artists.  Next he converted the manga into the horrible Echo Tokyo Intro VN on Steam to try and milk some money.  Finally about 3 months ago he finally decided that there was no way he could currently make the game and offered refunds as a "someday, many years from now, I will make this game as it is one that I am really passionate about.  Those of you who stay will get the game, but for those of you who are tired of waiting I offer a way out."  I took my refund gladly, so I have no idea what has happened since.  Funny how fast these "many years" passed.  It feels like 3 months.

I want Winged Cloud to make good games. I want any developer to make good games.
Playing good games (or VN's) is my (the consumer's) ultimate objective.
Regardless of their past record, this title appears to be written decently, in that it is easy to comprehend what is being said. The art seems to be the same as always, though I never understood why people like the art so much anyway, and the music also sounds good.
Assuming the dungeon segments are not terrible, and by that I mean that there should be a sense of progression, then I have no reason not to buy this game. I will wait and observe for a little long-
Wait, they use British spelling?! *buys*

finiteHP reacted to Nosebleed in The developers of Shan Gui lost the right to publish the game they made
I am baffled and saddened: http://steamcommunity.com/app/307050/discussions/0/357287304431021101/
I had been following this story for a while and it now seems to have reached its peak, with Magenta Factory (the developers of Shan Gui) giving up on publishing the game because they are unable to file a lawsuit against the guy who fucked them over. All problems that had happened before seem to also be related to this one guy.
And I thought Youtube was the site that had the most atrocious copyright policy ever, but I should have realized the DMCA system is an overall problem for every site.
So now these Chinese developers are forced to give up on a game they made because a guy kicked them all out of the team without authorization and they do not have the funds to fight in a court of justice. Regardless of whether the game is good or not, I think it's really sad to see a developer who just wanted to publish their game getting fucked over like this.
I know you can make the argument that "they should have known who to trust" but I find that not very compelling because it's usually pretty hard to know who's going to screw you over. And I'm sure the developers also placed their faith on Steam as a platform in case something went South, a choice which has clearly betrayed them now.
What do you guys think of this situation?

Dovac's favorite game is Final Fantasy 8????? Now I might have difficulties holding anything against him, as arbitrary as that sounds.
Putting that aside, SP really needs to focus on releasing what they already have announced. It seems like they're spreading their already small staff paper thin with all of these active projects, making progress slow down to a snails pace. Give me results Sekai, not empty promises.

Actually, the text on the back of the disc release for the Steins;Gate anime does a fantastic job at this, and as I recall, the second one is used in the VN intro as well. I can't decide which of these is better, but I love them both:
The microwave is a time machine. He should have been more careful. I was struggling with Gahkthun for a while, but then I realized what the real emotional hook of Gahkthun is, and a concise answer followed immediately:

finiteHP reacted to Darklord Rooke in Has anyone played Sunrider: Liberation Day
ME3 gets a bum rap. People were angered over the ending, but take that issue away and it was a pretty solid instalment.
It had more RPG mechanics than ME2. It had just as much story as ME2 (which was one big recruitment drive, really. Head writer left after ME1.) Shooter mechanics were better than both of the previous games. It wasn’t nearly as buggy as ME1. Choices didn’t change much but it did change your experience through the game.
All in all, ME3 is a better RPG than ME2, and a better game than ME1 (ME1 was the best RPG.) In comparison, Sunrider Liberation made hardly any improvements. Situations are completely different, tbh.

You people are silly, blaming Sekai Project, saying they are getting what they deserve. Simply stupid. It sounds more like a company who simply would not play ball with their publisher. The amount of time some of you spend hating on SP for the smallest of reasons is very petty, and only adds to the reasons I hate the VN community. Entitled, whiny, arrogant, pretentious, belittling, weebs. Keep in mind that this KS was done before people started crying over Sekai Project using Kickstarter. Call me a shill if you want, report this post if you want. The people in this thread hating on SP are just plain dumb.
Could SP have avoided this? Who knows? None of us know what goes on with the contracts and licensing talks. For all we know, maybe Sekai Project is the absolute evil some of you act like they are. Or, they could be doing thins the way they work and letting the market decide if it will keep working. After Root Double, I'm pretty sure the number of Kickstarters is going to go down, because people don't want to keep doing that (especially after 3 burns now basically). But, none of us actually know what goes on with them, so at this point, its criticism without any evidence or facts to back you up. Just what you see on the surface.

Anyway, as a backer who has the VN, its a shame, because the VN isn't all that bad. I am about halfway through it or so, and I'll still try to push a review out.
