It took me 1 year and 8 months to do it, but I've finally finished translating all 2265 lines of Watashi wa Kyou Koko de Shinimasu - in our localization, This is where I die today. During the most active period (where I did ~85% of the work), I managed a staggering pace of 6 lines per day.
Shinimasu is a nakige that doesn't waste time - it manages to present a multifaceted, compelling plot in its 2 hour playtime. It starts with a suicide attempt, and if you've ever felt like it yourself, you might find it intensely relatable. It's not afraid to show its characters weak or indecisive, but that doesn't mean they don't show their strength as well. Two misfits meet, lick each other's wounds, and - if nothing else - at the end of it, they're no longer alone. How do you live on this goddamned bitch of an earth? Maybe you'll find an answer in this visual novel.
I've previously livestreamed reading my raw translation of the first episode on Twitch; I'll be doing the same for ep 2 at 8pm CEST on Monday (the 12th). You can watch a recording of the first stream here:
Ask me about Shinimasu, translation, my new avatar, or anything else you'd like, and I'll answer you in a potentially spicy manner.

Indonesians etc legitimately might make up more of the pirate + legit total sample than usual in games for VNs. This would change the figures to show a higher level of piracy if Indonesians have a higher rate of piracy. It's not that they only pirate VNs, it's that they pirate all things at a higher level and are a higher % of the total population, if we are to believe this argument. Not entirely anecdotally the Fuwa stats I have seen point to a fairly high # of visits to Fuwa by Indonesians (and we're English language only!).

Your thread title is silly and misleading so let me answer the question it poses rather than your highly disappointing first post.
Use "Like" for good shitposts. Never reward productive posts, you'll get more of them!
Use "Thanks" for the same except you're a god damn hipster.
Use "Sad" for any posts made by me that you can't understand the glory of.
Use "Confused" when you're too stupid to understand a post. Exception: also use for all posts by littleshogun.
Use "Haha" if you think "haha" is actually an acceptable reaction to anything (signs point to no). Special mention to especially third-reich-mimicking mod posts.

I once was sufficiently bored to make tomato sauce by the book (bar boiling for a few secs then peeling the tomatoes first because who cares if it's smooth or not). Taste was pretty boring, I recommend at least adding some chili flakes. You can make a pretty decent tomato sauce with passata / strained tomatoes tbh I recommend that

Not if you're good enough. It may not be optimal, and I still get editors for my projects, but if you can write your translation naturally you don't actually need an editor to avoid serious problems.
Of course, few fan translators are at this level, and probably quite a few professionals either are not either or are not paid enough for trying to be worth it.

Man, this is so weird to me. I guess part of it might be you're doing it for cash and they're stingy, but still...
    ---
If you're going to edit fan translations rather than trying to go professional (which I can't recommend, though nothing is impossible in this industry I guess lol), the skill in interpreting 'fantranslationese' and translating it to English gets much more relevant. Also, learning Japanese helps - and then you can always realize you should actually be a translator instead, fun stuff!

Note that Fruitbat only contributed to the QA part of the translation.

Which... well it actually has spots that look better than typical fruitbat quality so nice I guess.
Also when it's literally listed in the publishers list on steam (as one of two with TOKYOTOWN) you have to wonder why you're not thinking of them as publishers 🤔

There is one questionable part in that Ruka decides to wash all of Rin, including the front, despite Rin strongly trying to signal that she'd rather do it herself. It's not entirely clear if this is due to Ruka not caring or that it didn't come across due to language difficulties, but probably Ruka could tell. This is all in text / voice but not illustrated in any way. It's not particularly extreme in any way nor focused on for a long period of time, but if you were really trying to damn the work, you could consider this to basically be groping. The actual CG has plenty of censor steam, but you could of course argue that you shouldn't be putting that kind of scene in at all because even an ounce of underage sexuality is bad.
Meanwhile in the land of sensible, Sweden, a critically acclaimed movie with two teenage girls (Agnes is 16, I guess it's possible Elin is 18 but idk about that) has sex scenes and everything https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Show_Me_Love_(film). (I recommend the movie to anyone into lesbian relationships, it's pretty good)

You rode through a great journey. The emotional high stays with you throughout the day, and maybe the next, slowly phasing out. Sometimes you think back to just how good it was and reminisce in fond memories. You start another visual novel. You hope it'll be as good as the last.
    .
You read an unpolished gem. You found some interesting parts, narrative patterns, or thoughts in the novel that you enjoyed. While parts of it may have dragged or been unpolished, there's a certain charm to it all. You want to shill it to all your friends so they can enjoy it too, and start to think about whom it would be good to recommend it to. You look up other works by the author...
    .
You read something you ultimately didn't find amazing, but think will be interesting to discuss with people. You don't feel like you wasted your time, exactly; maybe you used it suboptimally, but how could you know? You know more about the medium and can draw more parallels with other works when talking to other people deeply into the medium.
    .
You read something pretty garbage. You find solidarity with other people in talking about just what makes it such trash. It lets you see how storycraft can go wrong, and improves your pattern recognition to help you avoid something so disappointing again. You know the medium better, have better picking skills, and have something new to meme about.
    .
You read a Fuwanovel forum post by a fifteen year old trying but failing to sound profound, and cringe. You contemplate suicide, but eventually decide that it is not worth it, even though something tells you you have just contracted a painful form of malignant cancer. You write a forum post in reply

If we go this route, I think it's only proper to have an "Another VN got MTL'd by SakuraGame" thread as well. True, this could be served by Translation Salt, but translation salt tends to be people complaining about inconsequential things like honorifics half the time, and the SakuraGame topics have a kind of special flavor to them, much like umami. I think we lose something by not having a separate thread for tls bad enough to be MTL.
Actually, this got me thinking. Now one of the supposed benefits of discussion is being exposed to outside views that temper your own viewpoint, so let's throw that out altogether and divide people along clear lines instead. We could have two factions of people, either for or against weeby translations. Call them GOAL (Good Online Advocates of Liberaltl) and BAKA (Ban Abominable Kooky Americanizations). Naturally this will cause a spectrum crunch as people rush to adopt one position or the other, losing all nuance in the process and leading to a cycle of hatred and misunderstanding, which is what we all want, right?
I'm thinking we add a set of badges to show membership, with choosing a side obligatory for participation in any translation discussion thread. This way, you can instantly see if your interlocutor is a wrong-thinking degenerate and deserves not be interacted with, rather than actually reading their post, which will save valuable time to not use to read visual novels. I also suggest doing something similar for the censorship/no censorship axis, and maybe a few other fault lines like BL, EVNs, Otome games, and the narrative value of porn in visual novels. I fear adding a loli axis may cause actual deaths in real life, so I cautiously recommend not pursuing this otherwise fairly obvious axis of contention. All new discussion threads will naturally have to be tagged under one of these axes; if one genuinely cannot be placed on a predetermined axis, the moderators will watch the thread like hawks for derailment onto one of the well-tread tracks of argumentation and tag it after that.
Naturally we need enforcement of membership in the two groups. Someone might try a false flag operation, or muddy the waters in some kind of rebellion against glorious one-dimensional clarity. As such, we should establish a council for each party that may eject particularly egregious members (they may choose to either join the opposing party or bear a "null badge". Rest assured that all party members that wish to remain in good standing will ignore all posts made by a Null, or else.) I strongly recommend that I be given a judging position in GOAL, and for the intellectual luminaries @littleshogun and @Stormwolf to be given positions in BAKA. As Fuwanovel proves, leaders are totally best when absent, so I nominate Tay as the unofficial leader of both groups. I give no particular recommendations as to who will prove to be the unofficial leaders due to the power vaccuum; let the social dynamics sort themselves out, guillotine blades fall, &c.
All in all I think I've got a great proposition here. Does anyone agree?

Zakamutt got a reaction from OppaiDefender in Trans! Translation Project
    Greetings, mortals. I, the, *ahem*

...have decided upon this august hour to deliver unto thee a progress report.
As of current, 104 lines out of 2779 have been translated, and all of these have also been first pass edited and translation checked. I do believe more passes of editing may happen however as the head EOP Slave Zander has not currently incorporated some pressing suggestions by yours truly. Or maybe not - verily, I cannot know what percolates inside his mortal brain, but half of it must be empty space.
In other news, this deity is much pleased by the contents of Trans!; it has reached the highest unity not once, not twice, but three times in total from around 600 lines and 2 scenes of intercourse. It would, however, like to warn those with a disposition not inclined to the nonconsensual; Trans! appears to accommodate this particular mental configuration poorly.
Lest I provide no unoriginal material, allow me to meme edit the rather horrendous description taken "from vndb":
Ami, Minori, Taiga, and Ryuuji visit a Shinto shrine rumored to give its supplicants success in their romantic endeavours. A fearful entanglement occurs, and our hero and heroines find themselves tumbling down the stone stairs...
"What? My voice...," Ryuuji says, "Why am I in Ami's body?"...

Forsooth, their predicament weaves a tangled web indeed: They all have switched bodies! Ami, having sprung into Ryuuji's flesh, finds herself ruled utterly by that limb of limbs, her newfound dick - and  thus proceeds to embark upon a rapestravaganza of entrancing proportions. But deep down, we all know: the only proper name for her is KawashiBITCH.
Thank you for your time, and farewell, mortals. Until next time.
