I think when visual novels are concerned it's a mixture of the buildup, music being played, and the cg itself
Kara No Shoujo had some great ones...right before they started attacking my heart directly.

Oh damn Four-Eyes-Kun just gave the protag a box of condoms
This is getting pretty wild!

I'd say Steam Prison is a pretty safe bet as technology wise it seems on the cusp of the modern age

To be honest, this is one of the VNs that I would heavily prefer without h-scenes. Like it often happens, the fact that sex happens is pretty important, but the scenes themselves are very distracting and completely mess up the overall pacing. Actually, this may be the main reason why, while I understood that this VN was very good objectively, I personally didn't really like it that much.
Yeah, those scenes are what made me eventually decide to drop it like a bad habit

So, here I was, playing Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai and I couldn't help but notice but man, these kiss scenes are pretty shit. I mean look at these two examples distance and attack of the horror mannequin
Why can't this artist put the lips together, is it really so hard?
Anyway, this bothered me because to me at least, a kiss scene is often the best moment of a Visual Novel, especially after a really long common route.
So, mini rant aside I was wondering what your favorite or best kiss scene in a Visual Novel was. Tell me.
I think my two favorites are the kiss scene in G Senjou No Maou when they are under the moon and the kiss scene in Lucia's route in Rewrite when they are both overlooking the city.

More DL site poison
Hope it fails

Is the whole indirect kiss thing solely Japan garbage or does the trash exist elsewhere?
I get sick of it every time it's fucking brought up

Finished Sora's route in Hoshi and I have to say I was very impressed
I especially loved the long epilogue that took place years into the future
That's a feature that I've wanted to see in Visual Novels for such a long time
Sora was real cute and I like how they supported each other in their careers and other endeavors
Problems I had with the vn so far
1. Not enough cgs, there were a lot of scenes that I felt really would have been a lot more powerful with them added to it
2. Way too many sex scenes they litter them into the vn I feel and over half of the cgs are devoted to it. It's a real shame
3. They fucking suck at doing kiss scenes, I don't know what the problem is but every time protag and Sora kissed they would never connect their lips
so you were instead subjected to air kisses while all the while the text is trying desperately to convince us that they are indeed kissing. Kiss scenes are my favorite type of cg and it seems weird that they borked those scenes. (I mean look at this image, what were they thinking?)
4. Why didn't they have a sprite of Sora giving the thumbs up? She does it all the time and it wouldn't have been that hard to do.
Anyway, on to the next route. Oh, and here is the song for Sora's route

Clearly you never played I Walk Among Zombies. Its commitment to safe sex in a zombie apocalypse setting is really quite impressive.

HOLY SHIT THE PROTAG ACTUALLY TALKED ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFE SEX! IN A VISUAL NOVEL! WILL WONDERS EVER CEASE???

So I've decided to once again dramatically switch tracks completely in the tonal change department.
I started playing Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai, and I have to say my fucking god is it so much better than Hatsukoi! Like holy shit, it's like the difference between night and day.
Ryou is an actual character and not some frothing, slime excretion that was shat out by some deformed pestilence.
The male best bud is not some loser pervert whose soul reason for being is to make the protag look better by comparison. Plus, he has an actual girlfriend! It's amazing!
I pretty much like all the girls for the most part which was not the case in Hatsukoi (rip kyou and maya..you deserved better)
Here are my initial impressions on them
Ousaka Sora: She's cute and has blue hair so she already reminds me of another blue haired girl that I like so she's alright with me.
Shinozaki Marika: On the spectrum of childhood friends I think she is pretty decent. I tolerate childhood friends a lot more when they have spent some time apart and not just lived next door to the protag since forever. I hope she doesn't pull some childhood promise shit though.
Segawa Natsuki: She's a real spitfire and she reminds me of Sachi from Sharin No Kuni so I quite like her.
Narusawa Rikka: More proof that moody girls with long black hair are my weakness
Yukimura Touko She's also a real spitfire and she seems like she could have a nice teasing game going
Okihara Misa: She's probably the character I'm least enthused about but she seems like she could be a little interesting.
An there you have it folks

Finished two pretty short vns
Over The Hills And Far Away
The setting was very unique and I'm a sucker for historical background
The two main characters were well done and had a good rapport
Unfortunately, I thought it was pretty short and the ending felt very rushed. It was bittersweet but I kinda saw it coming( I thought it would have been even more bleak)
SpoilerI didn't figure that the mad tracker was the redcoats former partner but he wasn't established that much. Also how did Mai get away from the solders that quickly and without their involvement?
The ending was abrupt and a bit disappointing, I thought there might be a small epilogue but no, story ends.
I also played Lake of Voices which I thought was surprisingly good. The quality of the voice acting was even more surprising. It was tense at times, the art was good, the mc was good.
Bemelle was the best and he had the best voice for the role.

So I decided to take a detour from playing genuinely well made vns and play some trash instead
This is the trash I ended up playing
The only real entertaining part of it were the bad endings, those were some good ole wholesome fun
I rate it: Kinda toilet/10

I've been finishing a lot of visual novels lately since I decided not to have a productive summer in any way
These are some of the vns I have recently completed
The Falconers: Moonlight
This turned out to be really interesting I especially loved the amount of world building this relatively short vn had and I liked the main character quite a bit. Having it set in New Zealand of all places during the 1800s was a interesting change of pace.
A Light in the Dark
This was another short but quite good vn, the atmosphere was really intense and the story moved along at a great place. The only problem I kind of had with it were the timed choices, I didn't feel like they helped the story any and were more of a nuisance than anything else. It was a bit preachy about its message but I thought it was a decent enough one so I let it slide.
The Expression Amrilato
I found this to be a very good yuri title and I thought the setting and the focus on language was very unique. The protag was good and the romance was sweet and satisfying.
Some of the lessons really just became a bit of a chore but thankfully you can skip out on it in the settings. I want to come back to it at some point just to read some of the text that was in that other language.
Neighbor
It was a pretty spooky ghost story and I found it to be very enjoyable

So, I finished playing When They Cry today (which is like the first four chapters, seriously the nomenclature of this whole thing is bupkis)
Anyway, it was a good old time that was fun for the whole family, until the
organs started getting removedThe only part that I found a bit wearing at times was that the events kept playing out the same way in the beginning (With some obvious shakeups)
The second part typically comes through in the end but it kind of feels like I'm trying to read a story four times in a row but I end losing my place and have to start over from the beginning
I also finally finished the last route in Nurse Love Syndrome. It was the chieftain in case you were wondering. I forgot how much I truly loved that vn, especially the well done epilogue (So many vns seem to either skip on it or approach it half assedly, usually with a tepid sex scene)
I think I'll play The Falconers Moonlight next since that's been languishing in my wishlist for four thousand years -
Man, that was ten years ago
I never had a bad high school life but I neither had like a amazing or fulfilling one
High school settings now kinda just bore me to tears to be honest
It's all whatever man, give me some college life stuff that I'm actually nostalgic about

I have this idea for a not shit isekai
It's about an adult woman who is completely obsessed with Spaghetti Westerns
She's seen every movie, knows all the lines, movements, everything. She even practices her fast draw
Inevitably she dies and is reincarnated in a fantasy type world
She's given a wish and she wishes for a pair of revolvers that can fire magic bullets that never run out
So she takes out a job as a bounty hunter and tries to embody all her favorite character personas and often switches between them at will.
