@Erogamer thank you for bringing up this point. We've had a long debate about this exact issue, so please let me present our reasoning to you:

As you can see, the 「」 characters are twice as wide as others. This causes an ugly indentation issue we were trying to avoid.
It would be technically possible to indent every other line by two spaces, but that would mean we lost 2 characters per line
Another option would be to use regular "double quotes":

But in the end we decided to remove them entirely like this:

Thoughts are still clearly identifiable as they don't have a "speaker name" in the smaller box above:

During translation we noticed that we were constantly running into space issues because the english text tends to be much longer than the original one
Therefore, saving up to 8 characters per "page" is a huge deal.
Of course there are other workarounds such as reducing the font size for long lines or splitting a single line over multiple "pages", but we found those to be quite disrupting when reading and would prefer to use them as sparingly as possible.
I hope this compromise will be acceptable for everyone, please let us know otherwise.

Oh, thank's for pointing that out. I recently rewrote our compiler and apparently I forgot to include the "auto-remove redundant puctuation" option ^^

No one can stop you from doing this. If you feel like it is something you and others would beinifit from, then go right ahead.
I too would advise against it, though. Hear me out.
A translation project of such a big game will take a long time. It will take lots of effort from hackers, editors, QCers and... well, even if you are using machine translators, the translation will take time. Throwing all that time into something that a very large amount of the community will instantly discredit because it is machine TLed will suck for everyone involved.
I have personally helped TLC a script that was TLed by an individual like yourself, someone without Japanese knowledge; just a machine translator. The result wasn't as dreadful as people might excpect. About 70% of the lines were actually acceptable. The issue is that last 30%. It made absolutely no sense, and completely broke the flow of the script. Now, 30% of a 30-50 hour game is a lot. Chances are decently big parts of the story will be impacted by that. What do you do when you find lines you cannot understand yourself? That is not a translation. If the machine translator says something completely nonsencical, you have no one who can correct it. You only have a line in a foreign language that might or might not contain important story that you cannot translate correctly.
Chances are this will be something you regret after working on it for a while. Everyone appriciates the intent behind people starting projects like these. No one here is out to get you or anything. You want to give back to the community by translating a game; that's great. Sadly, the harsh truth of it is that if you have no one who speaks Japanese, you can't really translate a Japanese game properly. Machine translations will only go so far. To translate a work of fiction like this, you need someone who can understand the intent behind the lines, beyond just literally TLing each word individually.
In the end, it is your choice, but it would be wise to think about this a bit more before doing anything else.

    Hello there fellow community members!
I am here to announce that our new team, "Eternal Nyaboron," has officially started translating Sakurasou No Pet Na Kanojo for the PSP and PS VITA!
You can view the game and specs on VNDB: https://vndb.org/v11173
Special Note: Yes, we have confirmed that the game can be run on PSP, and PS VITA. PS VITA will be a bit more 'different' to work around with compared to the PSP.
    Overview of game:
Sakurasou No Pet Na Kanojo is a Visual Novel that is rated C (Rated Teen or 12+ in other countries.) The main protagonist, Sorata Kanda, starts to create a game that was advertised at Suimei University of Fine Arts. His fellow dormmates, Shiina Mashiro, Aoyama Nanami, Jin Mitaka, Misaki Kamiigusa, Akasaka Ryunnsuke, along with 2 new characters, Otoha Nakano, and Koichi Shinagawa decided to help Sorata to create the best ultimate game design. Sakurasou No Pet Na Kanojo is available for PSP, PS VITA, and PS TV. There's also 6 downloadable content that adds in some character development, and some hilarious tensions between the protagonists.

I'd say it's about 50/50, half of the TLs I've seen have them, half don't. You probably just never noticed it before because you never had it pointed out? A fan translation that has to work around text box space might be more inclined to remove them in order to save space. I know I'm glad Dracu-Riot doesn't have them.

Well, just about every TL I have seen has used quotation marks for spoken parts, but you are doing this for free so it would not be right for me to expect anything I guess.

I tend to prefer removing the quotation marks entirely in situations like yours, as well. A lot of fan TLs keep the JP quotes but then don't do the indentation like the JP scripts reliably do, which always drives me a little nuts, aesthetically, and I agree that the quotation marks don't give you any sort of additional clarity when you already have a speaker name above the text box. As long as it doesn't break your engine (and sometimes it does...), removing the quotation marks entirely is a technique I wholeheartedly approve of.
That said, I do prefer "Evil! Demon!" over "Evil!! Demon!!" - VNs have too much punctuation already

I think the quotation marks were fine, normally there are none when the protag is thing to himself vs speaking. That way you know for sure who is speaking etc.

    UI Overhaul
    Hey folks,
the old edited interface graphics were pretty inconsistent in terms of font choice / general look and feel, so I spent the last week reworking all of the UI files, trying to resemble the original as closely as possible.
I now used the same font for all UI labels and larger font sizes in general.
As a result of your feedback we also changed our policy regarding the use of Japanese quotation marks and some other style issues.
Left is old, right is new. Let us know what you prefer
Also, here are the latest stats (Image progress is a bit out of sync):
