  1. Whether you like him or not, Trump is a clear testament that the entire mainstream media and the government trying to hammer down a candidate isn't the solution. (unless the plan was to elect him all along through reverse psychology i guess) He is a meme and he was damn good at memeing his way to the White House. Fix America's electorial system is you don't want this shit to repeat itself.
  2. Could you tell me what happens in Ageha's route? I still don't know.
  3. That's kind of a bad way to think about it though. You're basically saying companies fucking up doesn't matter since the community will just patch it up either way. Why not demand, as a consumer, that the company delivers you a good product to begin with? We're very fortunate rusanon decided to make a team to patch up Konosora, but we can't simply assume that will happen every time, especially since translating a vn is an immense amount of work and most people aren't up for it. I'd much rather try to get the company to fix their shit, although in Moenovel's case it might be a lost cause. Regardless , I really don't agree with this "compaies fucking up is okay because the fans will fix it" mindset and I hope it doesn't become the status quo anytime soon.
  4. This is a company that should make most people worry about censorship, since they actually intentionally mistranslate the text to make it more kid friendly. It goes well beyond just removing sex scenes, it's a complete rewrite of the story, which is not okay by any professional translation standard. At most you can call it an adaptation, not a translation, but even that would be too kind given the awful English. Imagine the Harry Potter books but the word wand was replaced by water gun. Yeah, not very fun. (well now that i think about it it does sound a bit fun)
  5. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. Maybe a mixture of both.
  6. I guess there were enough 12 year old French girls to fund a new title.
  7. Notepad++ has an option to open 2 files at once and show them side by side. That's what i meant when i said split view.
  8. The best way imo is to have the lines on a spreadsheet (i used google sheets) so you can add the translated lines (as well as the tlc and edited lines) directly next side the original ones instead of directly editing them in the script files. This requires some extra tinkering though which I have no clue how to do but luckily I wasn't the one in charge of this process. If you can't do this then I'm sorry to say there probably isn't a great way to handle the scripts other than just opening them with notepad++ and replacing the lines. I suggest having a copy of the original scripts opened in notepad++ as well so you can have a split view for comparison.
  9. This rings a bell. I'll look through my watersports favorites when I get home and see if I can find anything. Just to clarify, was it an anime or a manga?
  10. Not in the slighest. I still think it was a valid question. Edit: I should point out I mostly just looked at the title. Since it was asking a question (well, sort of) I figured that was the point of the thread and the example given was just an illustration of 2 different opinions (even if we now know that wasn't the case in that particular facebook post). Maybe i just don't like reading too deeply into things.
  11. I think this thread is about the concept of "learning a language for a hobby is stupid", rather than that specific facebook post. OP did misuse the post as an example, but that still doesn't take away from the very valid question of "is it worth learning a language for a hobby?" Not really sure why everyone got up in arms about the example rather than the question being asked. Internet circle jerking at its best I guess.
  12. Guy who falls asleep all the time tries to create a baseball team in order to help an antisocial girl with a crippling obsession with cats. Then some matrix shit happens. Many tears shed. But in the end it doesn't even matter.
  13. While I understand the philosophy of not using guides, Corpse Party has like 10 different bad endings for every good ending. It's very easy to keep messing up and rather hard to figure out what you're supposed to do sometimes. Though I will say if you look for the clues, they are there, so perhaps only use a guide if you're truly stuck after half an hour. I used a guide for Corpse Party Book of Shadows because walking around the map and constantly getting stuck was annoying, and I don't believe that really ruined my enjoyment of it. I also used a guide for some bits of Corpse Party Blood Covered, and that didn't ruin the game for me.
  14. When I started my Japanese classes back in my first year my teacher already automatically assumed this. (she wasn't wrong either) What was interesting about that first year experience though was that at the start of the semester she sent us a non obligatory inquiry via e-mail asking us what we expect to learn from the class and what other things we'd like to know about outside of the language. As you could expect, most people wrote things like "Japanese culture" in the "other" field. The end result was that every once in a while my teacher would give a small presentation about particular things the Japanese do (eg: cherry blossom viewing, new years card exchanges, new years shrine visits, etc.) and imo these were rather interesting because they really showcased a lot of behaviors we normally don't get to see. However I must be in the minority, because most of the class didn't seem to enjoy these presentations and found them boring. I guess this didn't fit with the class's idea of "Japanese culture". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  15. Telling people why they shouldn't learn something they clearly care about is even more retarded imo. I don't go around telling stamp collectors that spending money on stamps is stupid. Because it's what they enjoy doing. Similarly, learning a language can serve multiple purposes, and neither of those purposes is wrong (well, I guess if you're learning a language to join a terrorist organization, that might not be so great).
  16. Yeah, you should be skeptical, but Eurogamer's predictions regarding the Switch were more or less on the mark when they made them in July, so I'll at least give them the benefit of the doubt.
  17. Eurogamer is reporting that the Switch will have a 720p multi-touch screen Nintendo has only said they have "nothing to announce" in response. If this ends up being true (I'm always skeptical with rumors), that will change things up quite a bit. Could this actually be what the Vita failed to be?
  18. They might make digital ports that work for the Switch, but that implies completely redesigning how the game interface works (like what they did the Zero Escape series). The architecture of the console (like the fact it doesn't have a touchscreen) means it can not be backwards compatible with existing Wii U games, even digitally. The Switch is more like a PSP with removable controllers and TV output, to put it bluntly. We'll basically have to wait and see what they come up with to port the games, assuming they want to. They refused to comment on the matter when asked, sadly.
  19. The 2nd image just says to insert disc 1. I'm not sure if the mobile version of ppsspp can handle multiple disc installations. It's still pretty buggy overall. Maybe try asking in their forums for help. Also that guide is for an actual psp. I bet it's not gonna be the same setup for an emulator.
  20. The Switch could never be backwards compatible,I don't know why people think it could be. The Wii U has 2 separate devices that work together while the Switch is just one portable device (that stand it sits on is just for TV output). They're completely different things. I believe ports might be made for popular titles like Splatoon, but neither backwards compatibility, digital or otherwise, seems feasible.
  21. Unfortunately my budget doesn't allow me to get 2 consoles. If it did I wouldn't have told my sister to wait. It has been confirmed the Switch will not be backwards compatible with Wii U games btw. Yeah, it's basically not worth getting one due to the lack of games. I know it has some REALLY good games, but that small quantity does not justify getting the console for me, especially when Nintendo wants to get rid of it as soon as possible (they're supporting the newest releases still but I doubt it will last much longer).
  22. Wew lads, we got our first decuple post. @Firemonk please edit your post to include more stuff, don't spam the thread. Also don't post these types of threads in General Discussion.
  23. The only reason I'm considering it is because my sister really wants a console and I've been telling her to wait for the new Nintendo one instead of investing in a Wii U when that system is close to death. If the system proves decent for your casual type of gaming and multiplayer then I'm probably buying it. I think Nintendo's strong suit has always been the demographic inclusivity (notice how their marketing is always about bringing everybody together and having fun) and I'd really like for the Switch to offer games both me and my sister (and maybe my parents) can enjoy (together or otherwise). If they can do that then I think it's worth it. I think the Switch should not try to directly compete with the PS4 or the Xbone and instead focus on what they don't do as well.
