    I would certainly recommend Little Busters, but you said that you didn't like it, though I hope you gave the whole series a shot, including LB!EX OVAs.
    Other than that, Phantom: Requiem for Phantom is an astonishing recreation of Phantom: Integration. So astonishing that Nitro+ remade Phantom based on that anime's style.

    Don't remember most of my early game, but I remember my firsts:
    First English game was Knights of Xentar, in 1997.  Not really a VN, but still.
    First Japanese game was Kanon for Dreamcast, in 2000.

    It is difficult to reconstruct my timeline, but not impossible.
    Making use of my first posts on Fuwa, along with my votes on VNDB, it is possible for me to figure out what I played first, Early 2014:
    Ever17 - The Out of Infinity - Remember11 - The Age of Infinity - Never7 - The End of Infinity - Umineko no Naku Koro Chiru Little Busters! When I started Visual Novels, I avoided 18+ like the plague. What I do not remember, however, is what made me first try an 18+ game. Well, I actually do know what made me: Fuwanovel. Its list of games frequently showed me the 18+ tag, and I was compelled to try one out. I would like to say the first one was Katawa Shoujo, but I remember I at least saw the H-scenes in that one. This does not align with my memories of skipping the H-Scenes in my first few VNs, and I do remember skipping them in both Sharin no Kuni and Hoshizora no Memoria, which means the first 18+ title was likely one of the prior two. Sharin, I think, is the most likely candidate.
    The first VN in which I even attempted to read (and to my amusement found that I had little interest in them) the H-Scenes was G-Senjou no Maou. Now in my later later years I have found that I may have been somewhat overeager in my efforts, for I skipped certain scenes with Usami from G-Senjou that we supposed to be rather emotional and touching.
    An alternative possibility for my first 18+ VN springs to mind: It was precisely because I ended up disliking the scenes in G-Senjou that I skipped all the scenes for a few VNs. This would place my reading G-Senjou before Sharin and Hoshizora.
    This research has, however, reminded me of something I had long forgotten: I have actually skipped a wealth of content in Hoshizora no Memoria. Didn't finish a route, and skipped most of a couple others. My standards and tastes have clearly changed.

    He is half readable because the tool is outdated?/unfinished
    The DBS have 2 encryptions and 1 compression
    First encryption is xor with 0x89f4622d for every 4 bytes of the file... (dword) Now you can see a compressed content, Very simple, is a 8 bits flag, 1111 1110 he will loop bit per bit if the bit is equal to 0, he will use the atual byte in the buffer as a count of how many times he need copy certain byte in the decompressed buffer to the top of the buffer... if the bit is queal to 1, means don't have repetion and just copy to the decompressed buffer After decompressed is the last encryption, this crass just do a xor in everything with 0x7190c70e, but this isn't right...
    This encryption have a randomic "static" switch who select bettewen the key 0x499bf135 and 0x7190c70e I don't have fully analyzed this randomic switch in the key, but if someone wants try here is the tool to create the dbs https://comfy.moe/vhmmim.rar

    Yes, works, but after extract I found the style of script who I hate work (Must be fully decompiled to translate), If wanna translate the LB I included in my Specific-Games repository, The Font.pak contains the font of the game, I'm not too hyped to work in the LB and study the font, maybe if i'm free a day, but for now, i will wait to see if someone try create a tool the the new font format.

    VNR now have a new server, so it's fully functional again!!!!
    Here's some instructions:
    - Go here http://vnr.aniclan.com/ and make a new account if you want to upload subs and terms (I think it works better logged in than as a guest). You can synch it with your old sakuradite account so you can keep your language preferences and things uploaded.
    - After that, you can upload your subtitles files stored in VNRfolder/Cache/Subtitles/xml/(important!) and upload the terms dict (if you didn't add anything private, you can skip this). Since it is a new server, it's pretty much empty until someone adds something into it.
    - The VNR compatible with the new server can be downloaded here: http://vnr.aniclan.com/upload/Visual_Novel_Reader(EN).rar (latest version)
    - You have to add all games with the wizard for it to recognize. However, if you didn't delete your old VNR, it will open with all your games already in the springboard.
    - Just one time while I was testing it ramdomly crashed, so it seems to be a stable version.

    Based on people's questions:
    - Want to login in aniclan? Use your new name and password. Want to login in VNR? Use your sakuradite name and password. (For now, Dangetsu may change it in the futute)
    - Can you read logged as guest? Yes, you can. Can you add things in the shared dictionary logged as guest? I don't think so (Never worked for me, needs more testing)
    - VNR says it's a unknown game? You'll need to manually select the right text thread before you can use it. After that, it will work normally. Usually, the default option isn't UTF16, so if no subs are showing, select UTF16 right away! (UTF16 is the most common, but if it doesn't work, try UTF8)

    Hi there, fellow VN fans,
    I always had a thought: why do we have so many proprietary and semi-proprietary VN engines? There are *many* defiencies in having a closed source engine (and kinda inaccessible VN content): there are problems with running it on many platforms (like 95% of modern VNs are released for Windows, good luck trying to read them on your Android / iOS device), there are these infamous problems with "Japanese locale required", sooner or later platforms become inaccessible (good luck trying to run some less popular games of Windows 95-98 era - they won't
    run on modern Windows 7/8/10 in any of the compatibility modes). If one wants to grab text for translation, one has to resort to really ugly API hooking hacks. Etc, etc.
    So, why not just convert VNs to some easier, more universal, accessible format? I've followed the pattern of ScummVM project (a universal engine that runs adventure games) and thought - why not?
    There are 2 projects close to what I thought: that is VNDS, which is, unfortunately, dead, and Asenheim, which is, unfortunately, not free/open source and I can't participate in it.
    Today I'd like to share some of my progress, proof-of-concepts and ideas.
    I've studied several VN engines, namely:
    Kirikiri2 (AKA TVP) NScripter BGI (Buriko General Interpreter) Whale Caramelbox SysAdv Ren'Py Tyrano Yuka VNDS Asenheim What do I have now:
    An understanding of some common baseline capabilities that all these engines have A project of JSON-based format (basically, some metainformation plus an array of simple instructions like "show text", "show graphics", "play sound", etc) A proof-of-concept engine written in HTML5+JavaScript (well, actually CoffeeScript) Most important: some working converters for several games that can be used on original games' data to make a "port" that my engine will be able to run A list of VNs I currently support and working on:

    A few nice things that I already have is full customizability (like using any skin for every VN for UI), support for multiple simultaneous languages (like showing original Japanese + English translation for the sake of learning Japanese from it), support for annotated Japanese (i.e. adding furigana and/or hovering tooltips with word translations), etc. It's very easy to run HTML5 engine on Android and iOS (tried both), thus enabling one to enjoy reading VNs on the go.
    I want to ask if anyone would be interested to take a look and possibly join me in developing / using such a concept? I'm almost ready to publish it all as open source software - actually, I just need a good name for the engine Any ideas?
    If anyone wants to try translating any of mentioned games using my engine - please contact me too. Anyone who wants to participate in any way (i.e. checking out demos, porting more games, playtesting, etc) - also feel free to contact.

    Our whole team has been somewhat busy this past week, so no progress to report on unfortunately. Both editing and translation should resume in about a weeks time. To be more specific,
    Airi's route: Continue editing Kaori's route: Begin translation Nagisa's route: Begin translation Hopefully by the next update we would have some actual progress done. Oh, and the game is also giving us technical issues. There seems to be problems with word wrapping and some backlog stuff. These issues will probably not get solved any time soon.  In any case, the partial patch for Airi might take a bit more time, seeing as editing will take a while. Quality over speed I suppose. Till next time folks.

    A bit of housekeeping first of all:

    Title: Blue* Original Developer: Namaage Translation Team: Kuoee Length: 6-8 hours Format: NVL, Kinetic Age Rating: All Ages Platform: Windows (We haven't tested it on any Mac systems, so we don't know how compatible it is. The most likely likely thing that can happen is the font will mess up and hurt all of the word wrapping, leading to bad line breaks. If something like that does happen, let me know asap. For now, let's tentatively accept this as a Windows release.)  
    And as per usual, for the final time, here's my writeup:
     
    What a journey. Two mates, four months, 11K lines, 0 prior experience in translation work. But somehow it happened, and somehow it's done. Back when we started, I really didn't know why we were working on a title like this. I felt a bit more confident after Namaage gave us their blessing to work on it, and also helped us out a lot on some of the technical sides, like giving us the data (just as I figured out how to hack VNs ). But by the end of the project, I think I figured out what our translator wanted to tell me by bringing me along on this project. There were just a few too many uncanny parallels between the story and our own circumstances. I hope that you get the same sort of enjoyment out of Blue* - an understanding of its world, characters, and themes, and how they relate to the kind of person you are.
     
    On the translation side, our translator (who strangely still hasn't picked out a name for himself, so I just call him 'our translator') took this project as an exercise in what we called 'flawless communication'. To him, translation is the act of creating a flawless passage of meaning - the idea that people who read our translation can walk away from it, having extracted the same messages, intent, and insights as those who read the original Japanese. To this extent, the two of us, as a translation team, adopted the philosophy of dynamic equivalence, or thought-for-thought translation. I'd like to highlight that that was our team's philosophy. What I mean is that we had to split up the translation process between the two of us. Our translator handled the formal translation, that is, word-for-word translation. I, doing the edited, was tasked with taking his TL, combining it with all of his notes, and replicating the experience he described in his TL notes. This isn't to downplay the role of word-for-word translation. It still takes a monumental effort to be able to flawlessly interpret not only the words themselves, but the underlying plot, characters and themes. That is our advice to other translators: treat translation as the art of sending a message, and not just discrete words, from one person to another, who would not otherwise be able to communicate.
     
    On the editing side, I had a blast and learned a lot. This project was right up my alley. It had pretty much everything I try to apply in my own writing: Light slice of life, electrifying emotional scenes, a good smattering of terrible puns. The only thing I'm unhappy with is that sometimes, I did go a little overboard, sometimes bordering on a bit too pretentious in my writing. But for the most part, I think I did it justice. I've also had some warnings in the past about how editing work for a TL project doesn't really apply to other forms of writing, Even so, some of the underlying processes are the same, as is my advice for translators and editors: Know your strengths and your weakness, know the tools you have at your disposal, and have the discretion to know when to use them.
     
    I think that line can also potentially apply to people doing scripting/hacking as well. From someone with no programming experience, except for a little bit of Ren'py, what got me through all of the hacking/repacking/scripting/debugging was the knowledge that all the tools and commands were already there, and I just had to find them. For people just starting out in hacking VNs, that's my best advice: know that the field is at least sufficiently developed enough to understand that probably someone's come across your same problem, enginge, etc.
     
    So where to go next? Another small, doujin VN? Maybe tackle something on the more mainstream end of the scale? Somewhere on the journey, our translator caught the eye of Novelsphere, a free, web-based VN site that has its own in-house engine. I think they were interested in enlisting his help to translate their SDK and engine documentation. That might be where we dabble in the meantime, before taking on another VN project. We'll probably be keeping our twitter (@KuoeeVN) stagnant until we announce our next project, but when we do, that'll be the first place we'll post to. To wrap up, we got Blue* in the best state we could, but on the off-chance we missed something, or something's gone wrong (like the word wrap problem that might happen on macs), let us know.     There are so many VNs I think are underrated. I think homeward is the most underrated VN ever. But I want to know what you guys think is the most underrated VN

    As i said in a previous post, if the Dracu-Riot scripts were released, I will translate Miu's route, and that's exactly what I'm announcing in this thread.
    But I'm not alone in this crusade, I've partnered with the wonderful people at The Oxford Comma is Superior Subs so we can deliver the best possible final product and lay the Dracu-Riot memes to rest. We also got several people from the Fuwanovel community to help speed up things even more.
    How is the project going to go down, you ask. Well you can read this post if you want detailed info, but the tl;dr version is that we are aiming to release multiple patches.
    The first patch aims to translate the remainder of Miu's route as well as any remaining untranslated content (images, menus, etc.) with complete editing to polish the current patch.
    We are going to try and release this in about 2 months, if everything goes according to plan.
    The second patch is meant to be more heavily translation checked as that's when Fiddle has enough free time to go over the whole game.
    There is no ETA for this second patch.
    This doesn't mean the first patch will be terrible, we will of course strive for a good product, but we would still like to inform you of our schedule. If we waited for Fiddle to be completely free, it would take much more time to release Miu's route, and so we've decided to do it this way.
    I hope you look forward to future updates.
    FAQ:
    Why not just make a Miu partial patch, why do you want to go over the whole game?
    There are actually 3 main reasons for this:
    The first and biggest one is that Insem's patch only works with the physical version of Dracu-Riot! which is very hard to get in the West and we want to make a new patch that works on both the physical and digital versions of the game, this way people can purchase the digital version and patch it, thus supporting Yuzusoft. The second one is that we want to americanize the writing style as well as make sure everything is edited properly, because Insem didn't have time to finish the whole thing. The last one is translation checking. Although we don't doubt Insem's abilities, we really want to try and make sure the translation is accurate. We also want to include translation notes in the game. Only 2 months? That seems way too fast.
    2 months is indeed fast, if we were translating the entire game, but we're actually only translating about 4,000 lines and we're splitting those lines between two main translators, this will hopefully make that 2 month deadline possible.
    Please do note we will not jeopardize translation quality for the sake of reaching the deadline. If we can not make it in time, we will delay the release until we're satisfied with the end result.
    Will the translation have memes?
    Yes, but only the dankest ones.
    Why aren't The Oxford Comma people making the announcement here?
