Is the sequel setup better or worse than the first Tokeijikake no Ley Line?
-
3days, Mindead Blood, Natsu no Tomoshibi, Rakuen, Dokoiku and Suzukuri Dragon. That month was just hidden gem galore.
-
Overall, i found it good, but didn't like it quite as much as you did. Roots almost single-handedly saved from being "just decent" and i'd say the worst parts were the routes that you skipped on recording (specially Nanami, if the protagonist has to listen to lenghty voice recordings so that the route could fit into the "multiple route mystery" you might as well scrap it).
-
Between Chitose's route, Ayumu's route and the omake, i seriously think this might have inspired Blank Note's Himawari. There are way too many similarities for it to be a coincidence.
SpoilerRocket project in Chitose, virus plot in Ayumu and space station action story in Omake.
-
I had no idea Trials and Tribulations and Shuffle were on this month too. Even though i find Trials and Tribulations to be just good and Shuffle to be barely decent, this month is ridiculous historically.
-
I'm surprised that Folklore Jam failed to reach masterpiece status. It seemed like a notable VN given EGS ratings.
-
That's where i thought the confusion was. The walkthrough calls Fuyuka's ending (option B) TRUE END but option A is the actual finale to the game, oh well. The loli routes are just as worthless as the other review said, btw.
-
Just wondering, did you play through the Ryuu ending off-screen? It just seems odd to end the playthrough without the ending that answers the last few questions in the VN.
Overall, i thought Ashita Deatta Shoujo was good, but i didn't like it as much as Kizuato because i thought the heroines were kinda dull in comparison (to be fair, the Kizuato heroines only got better with the added comedy scenes in the remakes imo).

A complaint that i saw about Waka-sama is that it has some dialogue that is really hard to understand if you're not that profficient at japanese. Do you think that it's easy enough to jump in?

I used Win10 to play it. The only issue is that game freezes after trying to load from main menu, so in order to load I had to start a new game and load from context menu. Also pretty sure that game actually has much more voicing than is on video, since voice file is 1.2Gb. When installing there was an error during voice file installation roughly at 20% of that file, so I guess I got roughly 20% of voicing. Copied file over without problem or error, but still same minuscule amount of voicing remains.
I don't know what exactly went wrong for you, because in this (incomplete) playthrough in japanese, the voices kept going well into the second act: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcETwoMH25C-EatAEUQ3GO8tti7eTjdvH
On the VN itself: i liked it a lot more than you did, but it was disappointing considering how ambitious it looked. Also, the promotional material on it was seriously dishonest, showing scenes from the last few hours of the game. I thought all that action was gonna be on the first half of it.

I take it you're going by the Higurashi release date registered in VNDB (the name of your blog is VNDBReview, after all). I particularly like considering the non-Kai portion a 2004 VN, because that's when the final chapter of that part was released. I even consider both parts a total package as a 2006 VN, but that's way too subjective by that point.
-
Huh, considering My Merry Maybe has ridiculous VNDB ratings (low seeding, though), i'm surprised that the prequel is a love comedy. I'm also pleasantly surprised with the positive talk about ONE 2, since with how little talk there is about it i just thought it was a cash-in spiritual sequel.
-
One thing i wish other VNs borrowed from Kusarihime is how characters interact visually with the background. It was so refreshing to see a character visually lay down on the bed when the text establishes it.
-
The way this year is going, Tsukikagerou might be your last hope for a elite VN from 2001 (aside from No Reality).
-
^ Quite frankly, it might be better to make a list for the entire year with links to actual photos that you can find for the packages and constantly update it like kivandopulus does for his VN of the month list.

"Sayooshi is garbage, all hail Nijuuei" should become a galaxy brain meme in these forums.
Update: It is definitely overhyped, but i didn't dislike nearly as much as you did. Shion, Aruiwa handled that kind of story in a more exciting way, but Sayooshi makes up for it for some really good directing (between the filters and timing for the effects). H-Scenes were a lot like It's my own invention from SubaHibi in the sense that they were too silly to be taken seriously.
-
I remember one of the english reviews i saw for Shoin making it look like a lesser version of Ever17 with the narrative trickery. Is that exaggerated or not?
-
You're tackling the year 2000 now? Hoping you eventually get to stuff like Nijuuei or Treating 2U.
-
Gotta say, your Youtube channel getting nuked the way it did was some bullshit.

I never really stop to actually look to the release dates, but I think the time period you mentioned it's the one the genre really grew a lot,
started to look prettier in HDand started to deviate a little from the basic formula of dating sims. And if you look at it, it was right around the time the PSVita was released. The deviation part was what really made me think about this time period as a golden age. I guess i got too influenced by Clephas' definition of what a golden age was and tried to apply it for otomes specifically.

Is it a botanic location of great height as well?

The 18+ version is actually one of my favorite OELVNs, because it was one of the few eroges where the h-scenes were short and entertaining. The biggest negatives i had with it were that the alternate outfits are garbage and that the amount of unique characters made monster-hunting worthless in the second half.
-
As a lesser man, i'm giving a shoutout to the seasonal Key team VNs (ONE,Kanon,Air and Clannad). It would be interesting to see a VN where the protagonist time-leaps between different months of the year experiencing all four seasons like in Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons.
-
I believe the first one is translated, correct? I think the one review i saw of it pretty much said it was "silly but fun".
