    It's true, lol.
Now, that doesn't mean I didn't like the true route, of course, but I liked Mizuha's route the most in the whole game.

If anything I usually like side routes in story based games. Makes it easier to focus on the main story, then treat the heroine romance and such as a separate entity. (Like the example mentioned above, G-senjou, which does this rather well.)
I find that most of the time, mainstream opinions about routes etc usually differs from mine, so I'm keeping an open mind about the routes in this game until I play them myself.

    Here is what happened:
First Mitch said "Wooow", then bigfat went "kapaauuhh", after that a lot of "KaBOOM" and "Kaplaaaaash", finally completely silence, at that point I was a little afraid of what might happen but then I heard a "glup glup glup" and everything was fine again.

PS: voted, funny thing is that the sakura games are banned from twitch xD I didn't know that.

Clannad is the kind of game where it's pretty fun to just go with your heart and see where you end up. After you do that once, I suggest resorting to a walkthrough. But there should be no issue with one playthrough like that.

MercyZombie reacted to sanahtlig in Frontwing asks your thoughts on an issue regarding Corona Blossom
Here's my thoughts based on the store page:
It's not immediately clear what the selling point is. What's the story hook? For Nekopara, it was a catgirl cafe. The all-important short description under the logo reads like nonsense. The intro video tells us nothing about the characters and setting, and the character descriptions are in tiny font and the text is cut off at the bottom of the video! My resulting first impression is: the premise is a directionless mashup of tropes. Back button. Kinetic novel: This is NOT something you want to emphasize. Western gamers, especially casuals, want interactivity in their stories (think School Days). Games without choices are the opposite of that. VNs don't market themselves unless you're really lucky and manage to make a meme game, or you have a lot of followers already who will help spread the word. Frontwing potentially alienated the core fanbase by charging double the price to add a few H-scenes in the extras menu. They're not going to spread the word for you when you do that. For an episodic game--especially a text game--people will tend to wait until all episodes are released to try it, especially if there's a concern that the game won't actually be finished. The difference is that Sekai Project relies on Kickstarter.  Having a large backlog makes backers uneasy.  The more projects going at the same time, the greater the loss to backers if Sekai Project suddenly folds.  A growing cascade of crowdfunding campaigns suggests reckless expansion, or worse, starting new projects to fund previous ones (a.k.a., a pyramid scheme).  Finally, too many simultaneous projects could stress the organizational apparatus overseeing all of them, resulting in lack of proper oversight and quality control.  These are all serious concerns.
MangaGamer is established, experienced, and boasts a fast-paced release schedule AND the quality control to back it up.  Not to mention that if they suddenly collapse, backers won't be left with the tab.

MercyZombie reacted to Clephas in The longer the better?
In my experiences, a long VN that is good will not always feel long, whereas a short VN that is terrible will almost always feel longer than it is.
To be blunt, it is possible to write a short VN that is good.  Narcissu is an obvious example of this.  However, it does place limitations on the writer, in the sense that he needs to be able to pack the entire meaning of the story he is writing into a smaller package.  Just because something is longer doesn't mean it is better.  I've played many horrible and long VNs out there... most of the best VNs I've played were pretty long, but that is more a function of the fact that a lot of the best writers out there are long-winded.  There are at least some writers who can pack a lot of meaning into a small package without making it seem hurried or cut short.
Satsukoi is a fairly obvious example of this.  It is a pretty short VN (shorter than most charage, which are generally as short as a multi-path VN gets).  However, it is one of those VNs I will probably still remember twenty years from now, by name, lol.
Eden is a good translated example of this.  If you are a reasonably fast reader, it is possible to complete it in five hours... and yet it packs a great deal of emotion and story into that five hours.
Edit: In the end, how much content is packed into a certain amount of text is a matter of the style and skill of the writer.  A poor quality VN is a poor quality VN, regardless of length... and the reverse is just as true.

MercyZombie reacted to kyrt in Which VN localization company do you prefer?
edit: did I really just type all this warning wall of text ahead apologies.
I definitely prefer JAST. Physical copies offered every time (with a download copy usually given as well), most of the events J-list or JAST show up Peter shows up and sometimes get wrapped up in talking with fans at his booth. His panels are often a lot more organized enjoyable and while question wise they sometimes can't answer everything the way you'd want (if he can give an answer he does). He's a professional which is a big difference from both mangagamer and sekai project panels that I've seen. They try to only release games fully uncensored which is something sekai project has yet to do for any of its japanese games (likely not  their fault). Generally they also have good prices (at least in the U.S.) and a good variety. The main issue with JAST is the release schedule for games, the acquisitions, and the quality of translations are sometimes leaving much to be desired. I'm pretty sure a bunch of the people working for JAST are freelance with maybe a few actually working. I also get the feeling that they've not had the best of luck with partners. I also have to say the customer service while sometimes a bit slow is usually excellent. I'm expecting a few announcements this year and a few additional releases besides sonico but they definitely don't release quite as many games as the second best.
Mangagamer on the other hand the only thing I have fully against is the lack of physical copies and the DRM. While they have definitely gotten better with that the recent issue with not giving steam keys with purchases and not doing physical editions (where they could put the steam keys and have no issues) definitely hurts in my eye. Their lineup of games has definitely gotten better over the years and their ability to release about one game a month is a very nice bonus the problem lies that they get games that are not top tier. The majority of Mangagamer's games are not anything special. They release more oelvn and nukige than good quality story driven games but like I said that is getting better. Especially recently I've been buying at Mangagamer more often now that the majority of their new games require no DRM. I have a huge stance against DRM and for the longest time the only way I bought their games was via physical copies. The problem here is that their physical copies are often limited runs and if I don't have money at a particular time there is always a chance that when I do have the money they will be out. They to my knowledge do not reprint titles nor have they gone back and gotten rid of DRM from everything which means some DRM still exists. They also are quite a bit more expensive for the better quality titles. I also have to praise their ability to keep us informed on titles they've announced. Allowing us to see where they are with each title is not just a good gesture to the community but is a good marketing strategy. Now people can predict when they will need to scrounge for a bit of extra dough (or take it from the grocery budget), this makes it more likely someone will be able to purchase their games. Like JAST the few times I have had to talk to customer service the service has been impeccable and the quickness at replying might actually be quicker than JAST.
Both JAST and Mangagamer also take care of All Ages and Adult fans and release titles on both sides of the spectrum rather regularly. Honestly both are very good companies and while each will have an occasional spot of bad every so often generally they are both very good companies.
Sekai Project: Oh boy this one. I may not have the most favorable of opinions on this company but I do appreciate them. It's thanks to Sekai Project that we even have the chance for official versions of certain titles and despite my dislike of how they go about their business they have spread visual novel awareness to more than regular visual novel fans. I would not go as far as to say they've made visual novels popular in the west but they have made them noticeable. Sekai Project generally releases pretty cheap games which is a plus as well however it has its fair share of problems as well. The lack of physical copies. The majority of all of their released games have been digital only or kickstarter physicals only. While business wise this is a sound method as a fan and collector it really annoys me. Sekai Project also has the bad habit of releasing only all ages titles and while they do have an adult spin-off website under denpasoft it's treated like a neglected child. Sekai Project's habit of releasing via kickstarter or indiegogo only if successful is also a real annoyance for those of us who expect acquisitions of licenses to mean they actually already have the rights to release the game. Sekai Project has made it possible for things like Clannad to release westward but has also caused a shift in the way japanese visual novel companies think about licensing. I imagine this hurts the chances of some big names coming to Mangagamer or Jast because they wanna try the kickstarter route. I see kickstarter as eventually not working as a means of funding projects and hopefully once this happens the japanese companies will try the normal way or will release titles themselves (with proper translators). Sekai Project has had a few failed kickstarters (or extremely delayed kickstarters) because they like to fund the little guy which is alright and good so long as the little guy does not fall through on his promise. Another big area of concern is that because the majority of their games are steam only they do not offer a way to get them outside of the Steam DRM which is really annoying for someone who wants a DRM-free game. Sekai Project is not the greatest of the visual novel companies but it's also not the worst either and despite most people's disatisfaction toward them it cannot be denied that Sekai Project has had a profound effect on the visual novel market in the west.
Denpasoft: Technically a part of Sekai Project for the longest time denpasoft was ignored and even now is not overly hyped up. Denpasoft never has a panel or a mention at Sekai Project's visual novel panels at cons. It has a very limited selection of games the most of which are extremely short or were only added because of kickstarter. Going forward Sekai Project does not wish to release full games but rather only 18+ patches that you buy separate of the game. They don't seem to bother with trying to get titles mosaic free. Recent announcements have made them decide to try indiegogo for an adult title one of which they announced over a year ago (with no kickstarter/indiegogo...it was likely Karakara's fault this is now happening), they fail to release the higher quality titles with the 18+ content they were originally released with (G-Senjou), and they do not keep people well informed about the games in their lineup. They take no risks which business wise is probably a smart venture but is really irritating for those of us who are sick to death of funding via indiegogo/kickstarter. It is almost June and the last update on the website was back in February when they announced the removal of steam keys. They also seem to be having issues with having adult only titles and an actual payment processor which isn't their fault but is yet another thing that just isn't working. It does not help that because most of denpasoft's games were either from a kickstarter, available elsewhere, niche genre, or really short that people have a habit of pirating their games more than anyone else. Part of this likely comes from the bad rapport denpasoft has made with the fans. The change of the website from the original is a nice change but that was months ago and nothing new has been updated outside of a single release that may not have even gotten a news update. Sekai Project is essentially ignoring Denpasoft. I want to like Denpasoft as much as the others but until Sekai Project gives it the due attention it needs (which I do think will happen eventually) it's just going to be taking a backseat to the visual novel companies that do the same things better.
Moenovel: The Black-sheep of visual novel localization companies. One of the worst releases of a popular visual novel yet. Censored for 12 year old french girls so they could play it. The translation was awful, the censorship was beyond simple sex/nudity, and the release was a joke. They've released a total of one game. If anything it did show what not to do with a visual novel release. It did however have a physical edition and did have a pretty decent record of keeping people informed about the release leading up to it. I think it would be incredibly smart of them to work with the current (does this exist still?) translators of the restoration patch and have them re-release the game without the cut content as they'd make some money from it but then that's unlikely as well. Nothing really worked about this release and it's considered quite possibly to be the worst of the vn localization companies.
Honorable Mentions (verdict is still out): Degica (Muv-luv no idea on translation quality), Mikandi Japan (Libra of the Vampire Princess no idea on translation quality), NISA (released Danganronpa and Psycho-Pass vns), Aksys (blazblue, norn, virtue's last reward, hakuoki, fate/extra, sweet fuse), frontwing (nothing in house yet), and capcom (iffy translation for phoenix wright games but usually enjoyable nonetheless)

I don't think that statement is fair. Even though Mangagamer does everything to look like a porn company only selling nukige, they actually aren't.
Back then, when MG was still uncool and visual novels weren't popular yet, they released an all-ages visual novel, Higurashi, even though it was pretty clear that it wouldn't be very profitable. Of course, they got hate because there were licensing issues with the soundtrack and because they didn't use the Alchemist sprites. But still, without MG, we probably wouldn't have gotten an English Higurashi release at all.
Since then there was always an "All-ages" in the MG store.
Also, even though they were advertising every game as a sex romp, people who actually played their games know that most of the time this was false advertising. I remember playing Edelweiß expecting a nukige because the summary very much implied it, but then I got one of the funniest love comedies I ever played. You only need to think of the gay ghosts to notice that they are still doing this, but nonetheless the games are actually not as porny as MG tries to make us believe.
I don't think you can criticize MG for focusing on nukige. If you ignore all nukige in their portfolio, you still have a great list of mostly interesting games. And I think this list is possible, because they release also a few nukige (most of them actually quite good if you compare them to JAST's nukige for example) to make cash, because we all know that it's the porn that sells.

MercyZombie reacted to Nosebleed in For 3.99$ you can get 4 sakura games
I'm going to bet it's because they sort of tapped the Steam market before anything else did. Like, sure there's now plenty of anime boobs to look at on Steam, but before Sakura Spirit came out, cheap anime fanservice games on Steam weren't plentiful (and they still kinda aren't, but there's more options at least) and that's probably why the Sakura games got such popularity early on. It was more of a novelty which, aided by the libido of 12 year olds, ended up selling like hotcakes, but if you look at the subsequent Sakura titles, each one does worse than the previous one, signaling that perhaps just having 2D boobs isn't going to hold you up for too long. Now Sakura games are basically going to turn into the Bad Rats of VNs.

If you want a product, try and buy it in some manner, if you don’t want a product why bother reading it at all? If translation quality is important to you, and you're presented with a inferior product, why not just pass on it? I don’t read a lot of VNs precisely because they have less than stellar translations. What I don't say is ‘man this translation sucks and as someone who cares about quality, reading this is like sticking a thousand needles into my eyes… but I’m still going to read it all the same like a fucking masochist. Except I'll grab it for free because that will make me feel better when I start crying tears of blood.'

As the editor I'd like to say something about this word choice, but I'm feeling much too lazy right now.
Anyway, a minor editing report to whoever may be interested:
I'm putting some serious hours into this project. Insem's script is pretty hit-or-miss. Some scenes are mostly okay, some scenes are very bad and require extensive reworkings. I'll be honest, the scenes that are "mostly okay" are going to remain relatively untouched. If this was a new translation from scratch that was a year or more away from completion, I'd give each and every line a very thorough treatment. This isn't that, unfortunately, and to be frank I don't think I'd really have the desire to sink that kind of time into some random outsider's translation even if I had it. But we're making solid improvements to enough portions of the script that I believe our work to be very much worth it. If I were to guess, I've already made changes to several thousand lines without having completed a heroine route yet, not counting minor formatting adjustments and general debritification (suck it, @Rooke). Our version of the translation will officially suck substantially less. If you want an example of just how much the Staircase translation can suck sometimes, just see Yuuto's first morning in the dorm. Hoo boy, that one's a doozy.
It's slightly demotivating to see so few people actually care about the quality of the script, choosing to read the current patch despite knowing that an improved one is on the way in the near future. But hey, I figured this would happen. To the people who are patiently awaiting the edited release, you'll be rewarded soon enough. To everyone else who couldn't wait just a few more months for something they didn't even think they'd be getting at all, hah, the joke's on you. If you are super patient, it's actually best to wait for Fiddle to do his eventual full TLC pass, which won't be for several more months.
One last note: Fiddle said that the editing "may" be done before whatever his definition of "two months" is. This is true, that might actually happen. But there's also a decent chance it won't. I don't think he plans on delaying the patch for my lethargic ass, but the Miu route will definitely be fully edited and translated. So if that's all you're waiting for, then you have nothing to worry about. The Azusa route will almost certainly be fully edited by that point. I expect there to be at least three fully edited routes. There will hopefully be five, but eh... that might not happen.
Anyway, I'm working my ass off on this. I hope you're able enjoy the VN all the more for it.

It does seem a little strange that he wants to bring those games over because they are torrented, yet he refuses to release 18+ versions, which means that if the west still wants those versions, (which many people here do want), they might be inclined to return to the torrent anyways.
That is a little bit contradictory.
