So not only did my local game shop still have a copy, they were giving away posters, naked Tenshi cardboard square thingies, and a bonus Girls Dead Monster single (Million Star). The actual box itself contains everything you see above; trading cards, a mini art-booklet (that's the black thing), a piano OST and an Angel Beats radio show CD, a big plastic emblem thingy and some ads for their upcoming games/anime. All for less than $70. Key sure knows how to stuff their stuff. Can't wait to get started.

The main thought Angel Beats (the anime) left me with was 'man I wish they had fleshed out the story more'. It felt like one of those rushed stories where they couldn't quite fit in all the details from the original work... except it WAS the original work. What I'm hoping is the VN (series) will tell the whole story and after that we can play around with time and stuff and say 'Oh the anime adaptation is basically just a butchered advertisement for the game' and when people try to point out that the anime came out first we'll just give them blank stares.

I saw people linking good Disney songs and went through each one looking for Hellfire. Nope. I'm happy to be the first one to link this.

It's just... so very different from any other Disney song or video. I like to imagine that when the creators of this movie went to the first screening they watched this song and then sort of just looked at each other with bloodless faces and whispered "Did we really make that?"

... anyway for something lighter, here have Pogo. Pogo is a person on Youtube who makes really trippy remixes of Disney movies by patching together bits and pieces of music and dialogue from the movies. They're really upbeat and dreamy. My favorite is the Alice in Wonderland one:

Confession: I secretly pulled the strings behind today's rulechange as one more step on my road to secretly turning Fuwa into a squeaky-clean forum that only discusses all-ages VNs full of wholesomeness. Tehe.
After looking at the above linked VNDB pages the thought I came away with was 'I dunno, getting embraced by a giant starfish doesn't sound so bad'. I'm sure Fuuko would agree with me.

I don't own a 3DS so I can't get the new Fire Emblem games coming out tomorrow... but I did get a box of the Fire Emblem Cipher card game! I want to make a deck that is nothing but Chiki, Nono and a bunch of cute Pegasus Knights. Joking aside, the art for this card game is awesome and I do not regret spending the price of an actual new Fire Emblem game getting a box full of small cardboard squares.

no way i'm watching black cat again.  A lot of it i just didn't care for.  The plot felt like a convoluted mish mash of things the mangaka probably thought was cool, like nanomachines and fictitious metals and a shadow organization that seeks world peace through murder, and an eye patch limiter for superpowers.  It was pretentious as all hell for how unoriginal it was.  It reminds me of every shitty fan fiction derived from something like dragonball z or metal gear solid where the protagonist is some tortured, cool badass.  Yes, let's keep using that trope because it definitely hasn't run it's course

Okay yeah, you and me are in total agreement over the debacle of the video. It was a crap video and the way the organizer guy responded to criticism was pretty crappy too (though let's be fair to both sides, the criticism was pretty snarky right from the get-go and could have been said a little more maturely). I would have been fine with them just saying 'Hey we're translating Monobeno! Look forward to the first patch!' and not doing any previews.

But let's use this as a chance to talk about what recourse groups have if they are doing a bad translation. Forgetting Monobeno or any specific examples for the moment, let's say you've got a guy who really wants to put together a translation for a game that's been out for a few years but hasn't been picked up by anyone. The guy hacks out the scripts and makes a program to reinsert them, great! Now he just needs a translation. He asks around and recruits but all the translators he manages to get for his project are crappy. All of them are 'learning' Japanese, and none of them have English as a primary language. They're really interested in helping out but their output is what you would term as a Bad Translation.

    What do?

I mean yes the first and most obvious response is 'quit'. But what if this was the one chance that game ever had for a translation? So the group quits and nobody ever touches that game again, the end? That's all well and good for people who can read it in Japanese anyway, but everyone else just gets to try their best with a text hooker and forget about a real translation?

This is why I talk a lot about translations being community efforts. If a group shows up wanting to translate something, the community should see this as US, all of us, translating that game. If it fails it's because we didn't do enough to try and get them help. The shittiest translation can be brushed up with TLC and editing. If we just shrug and wash our hands of it well, then, I guess we just all should shut up and never request a translation for any game again because we aren't lifting a finger to help the people who are actually trying.

So what you're saying is it might force them to localize more all-ages versions and non-18-plus games?

Pretty much all the Kickstarter`d games are given an all-ages release (or are exclusively all-ages releases). Therefore Kickstarter is just and right. Self-funded companies like MG and whatever that other one is put out porn, thus they are evil and bad.

Serious talk though Japanese companies don`t like taking risks. Not even a little. Before Kickstarter there was absolutely no big success or huge outpouring of support in the American VN community that localization companies could show to Japanese companies to gain their support. It was a huge uphill battle for localization companies to finally squeeze a contract out of Japan, and the trickling sales over a long, drawn-out period of time for VNs before probably weren`t lighting any fires in Japan. Then we have Kickstarter. Localizer says `I can make your game big in America` Japanese company says `Oh really?` Localizer says `Yeah this Kickstarter for it just raised tons of money with tons of backers pre-ordering` Japanese company says `Oh, cool, well then let`s do this` because there`s no longer any risk or fear of failure at that point.

I started playing Wild Arms 3 as part of my destressing from this week and I`ve really taken a liking to it. It has a really interesting system, and I love how they went pretty much full-out cowboy for it whereas the previous 2 games were little more like ordinary RPG settings with very small touches of wild west. The music is really good too, but then again Wild Arms has always had a really good OST for all the games.
