Subarashiki Hibi ~Furenzoku Sonzai~ is the 'best' Visual Novel I've played, as well as it is my favorite work of fiction in all of Japanese media. This is a story that I'm mainly personally attached to, since at the time of my reading it (this was my 6th VN), the resulting paradigm shift helped me out spiritually-wise, pulling me out of my seemingly perpetual comfort zone and allowing me to take control from there. Aside from the personal reason, SubaHibi has an inherent trait of ingenuity with its seamless blending of an abstract ideology into a narrative structure, meaning the story will end up being seen differently by different people yet the ingenuity shown from it stays the same. Due to my mindset at the time, I approached the story as a 'puzzle' as I had with everything else, so I ended up greatly appreciating the intricacy of the plot and its various connections to the theme presented. With that I suspect people who approach the story the same way will enjoy it just as much.

TL;DR: I love SubaHibi like I love my favorite stuffed animal and icecream.

    Hi everyone,

I've got a whoppin' 16 hours blocked out for Fuwanovel work tomorrow. The morning will mostly be dedicated to back-end code work on the Reviews hub, and working (hopefully with maef for at least part of it) on the articles app. Other things I've got on the list:
Q2 site financial report PMs backlog LC reports  Bugging Zaka Sending nohman a LC reports schedule for the next month and a half Sending Rooke jibes jokes Front site work Recruitment app Fixing problems with the donation system Jamming out hardcore to classic rock and Final Fantasy music (mostly VIII, VII, IX piano stuff, but also some of the Distant Worlds albums) Kicking the bloody senators in their collective rear-end I'll also try to make myself available on the chat app as well as on Skype.
tl;dr: Tay is going to be working on the site all day tomorrow, so please prepare for all hell to break loose. It is suggested that each community member prepare at least one 72-hour-emergency-kit full of food, flashlights, solar blankets, rage, sass, and panic. I'll be available to chat if you need some bad jokes.

    Thanks!

Currently reading Konata yori Kanata made.

It has definitely been exceeding my expectations in many ways. I don't know how I have managed to stay composed for as long as I have while reading this, but when I finally do break... I am probably going to cry like nothing else. Sadness aside, the characterization is done pretty well, and I have been particularly been enjoying Christel's antics. Yuu is also a qt3.14... so yeah. xD

Oh, and I am somewhere in Christel's route as of right now. Now that I am done work I can finally dedicate more time to reading.

I think either Fortissimo, If My Heart Had Wings or Princess Evangile.

    Reasons;

    Fortissimo
    1) The OST is epic.
    2) The characters are pretty cool.
    3) The story is good despite it being rip-off Fate/Stay Night.
    4) The art looks amazing.
    5) Amamiya

Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa wo Hirogete
    1) OST is really calming and great.
    2) The story is not unbelievable-like.
    3) The art also looks amazing, especially the backgrounds.
    4) I simply, like sky, a lot.
    5) Amane

    Princess Evangile
    1) Art looks nice
    2) I was really interested about what will happen next, each episode
    3) Some of the OST is really good
    4) Ayaka

Just a quick (and probably temporary) post: I'm very grateful for everyone's patience as I've recovered from a fall and dealt with pressures at home and school. I'm trying to catch up on all the stuff that I've missed over the last two weeks, and part of that is making myself available to chat one-on-one or in groups.

Tomorrow (Friday August 21st) I'll be logged into chat for most of the afternoon/evening and will also be available on Skype. If you've got questions for me, want to hear a bad joke, have an axe to grind, or want to get on the same base about something, I hope that'll be a useful thing for you. Additionally, I should have all of my PMs answered/responded to by tomorrow evening.

Hope you're all doing well. Apologies for the recent tech problems: Nay and I are working on figuring it out and have reached out to our host for more details.

LinovaA reacted to MX-Futhark in I made a prototype of text hooker for emulated games
Hi everyone, I'd like to present an embryo of text hooker I made. Well, at this stage, the actual hooking part is not really there, but bear with me. I already posted this on /r/visualnovels, so this will basically be the exact same post as what is already on reddit.

Without further ado: the little guy's name is "Hook Any Text", HAT for short. HAT is simply a plugin for Cheat Engine and doesn't quite live up to its name yet, but it's usable with games that are not covered by the traditional tools: AGTH, ITH and VNR.

Rather than talking at length about what it does, what it doesn't and how it came to be, here is a presentation of what its use looks like: demo

Lots of stuff that you can skip:

I actually got the idea by trying to get VNR to work with Fate/Extra CCC. Long story short: it didn't. I later stumbled upon this tutorial. The demo above should be very similar to what you can read in this link. After reading this, I got the idea to make a program that would automate the last part, that is, copy-pasting the hexadecimal data and converting it for every new line of dialog. The hooking part is still left to the user. I figured it could serve as a fallback method for when the other major text hookers mentioned above don't work. This is not limited to emulation, contrary to the title of this post. But I needed to lure you in, right?

The great advantage of this method is that it does not depend on an engine or an emulator. The game doesn't have to be a visual novel for its text to be hooked. The problems are however numerous:
Some engines do not not store their strings in such an easily accessible way. I failed to make HAT work with Kirikiri and Unity games, for example. The steps required to first find where the text is stored in memory require the user to write Japanese. Not much, and only once, but that is still a bit of a turn-off when you can't decipher moon runes and want to use this kind of tool to feed the text to a machine translation program. There are solutions to this problem, though. What it does:Detect changes convert the hexadecimal data selected in the memory view of Cheat Engine. It then puts the result of the conversion in the clipboard. Detect the encoding used by the game, provided it is not an exotic one (Pokemon games, for example, won't work with HAT because of their proprietary encoding) What is does not (yet):Automatically find the textual data Adapt its behaviour based on the engine on the engine of the game Attempt to be user friendly When you should use it:You tried every other text hooking tools and they didn't work. You want to help the project by reporting the bugs you can find and help me keep track of the games it works with. I successfully use HAT to play Fate/Extra CCC and 11eyes Crossover on PPSSPP and JPCSP, Sora no Otoshimono Forte - Dreamy Season on DeSmuME, or Monster Girl Quest, among others.

Some more stuff that you should not skip:

If you want to hook the text of a game on emulator, try HAT. It may work and it may not, but it's worth trying. Follow these steps:
Download it here. Install it like this. RTFM More information in the other pages of the wiki.
To developers out there: here is the GitHub page.

Thanks for reading. I'd be very grateful to have some feedback on it. Remember that the project is still VERY young, but feel free to speak your mind. General questions, features you would like to see, bugs you detected, games it worked/didn't work with, bad grammar in the wiki... anything constructive would help me.

    THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN ABANDONED
Well, here we are once again with another translation project.
After the success of Lilium x Triangle I was thinking of taking a break for a while but, honestly, with college starting and me taking Japanese classes, I figured it wouldn't hurt to have a project on the side to work on, and it's also a good way to kind of level up for me.
The game in question this time is another nukige titled Immoral Little by Apricot Cherry.
    Warning: Copious amounts of lolis
    Project Info:
Immoral Little is about 4 times the length of Lilium x Triangle with 11.6k lines of text so this will definitely be an increase in workload, and obviously the time needed to complete it will definitely not be the same as Lilium x Triangle was.
As far as updates go, I probably will not be updating this every 200-500 lines like last time but instead whenever I feel like there was significant progress made.
This will be a much longer journey so I hope some of you will at least stick around and support us in bringing more lolis to the west.
No screenshots on the OP because everything's NSFW.

    (Nothing atm) FAQ
When will the project be done?
    February 30th
    How long is this game?
About 5-6 hours depending on reading speed.
Will you ever release a partial?
    Probably not.
    Will you translate the sequel?
    Maybe.
    I want to help.
Currently we're nor looking for any positions but I'll post here if I ever need somebody. Where's my yuri!?
There was only one other yuri game I had interest in but there's a high chance that MangaGamer will license it and I do not wish to get in MangaGamer's way and deal with NDAs or DMCAs, hence why I gave up on the idea. And no I do not wish to work with MangaGamer either at this point in time.
Why are you translating a nukige again!? I don't like it!
    Mom, is that you?
Stop ruining the visual novel world.
