Rant Stream? Yup.

Your example was literally the exact opposite of my point. All you ever do is argue how I'm wrong about everything anyways in every single rant I ever make.

I guess you're right, because I'm an introvert I don't realize that the best way to introduce a newcomer to VNs is by showing them Saya no Uta, I mean, it's a great VN and they're going to find out about it eventually, why hide it?

Better?

You used scat as your example if I recall correctly, hence you were using porn as the example when I stated originally that you shouldn't share sexual fetishes with others unless you know the person or something. Showing a person Cocoro@Function! is not showing them porn.

I used scat because the point was the same, you don't start by showing a person the weirdest shit something has to offer, you start them off with with something more conventional. Just like you wouldn't show someone who has never seen porn before scat, you show people something like Katawa Shoujo first because odds are if they start with Saya no Uta they'll drop it at the first H-scene and never look back.

Sure, some people might start with Saya no Uta and love it, but do you really want to take that bet?

And I don't know how you think showing someone Cocoro@Function, part of which was meant for people to masturbate to, doesn't count as showing them porn.

Because it's not directing them at the porn itself. Showing a person scat is diving them right into a sexual fetish, while showing a person Cocoro@Function! (while it has porn) isn't drawing attention to it. In other words, you normally don't tell someone to watch GoT for the porn even though it has porn in it.

As for your other point, I wouldn't show someone Saya no Uta because I thought it was weird, I would show them Saya no Uta because it's my favorite game. So yes, I would start people with a game I love the most. At the end of the day, if you truly like visual novels, you'll learn to look past the crap you might not like and try finding new games. If that game alone turns them away from an entire genre of many other games, well then they probably shouldn't be a VN fan in the 1st place.

Are you for real, guys?

Don't forget kids are still reading these forums :makina:

It was nice listening to your rants, as usual; high ammounts of salt guaranteed. I may not entirely agree with you on everything, but you made a couple of valid points regarding western publishers, shady business practices and issues of paid fan translation vs. professional translation (which again, doesn't really exist).

Blind post here

The first VN(englishtranslated), or "starter VN", that anybody should ever read upon being introduced to the genre can be divided into multiple categories depending on their affinity

For those who desire the moe:

  • Kono Sora
  • Hoshizora no Memoria
  • Princess Evangile

For those who desire the tears:

  • Any Key

For those who desire the Dragon Ball Z buff-guy-actiony plot > hot 2D grills:

  • Steins;Gate
  • Muv-Luv Trio
  • Fate/Stay

For those who desire the All Arounds:

  • Katawa Shoujo
  • Grisaia no Kajitsu
  • Majikoi
  • Sharin no Kuni
  • Rewrite

For those who desire the Mysteries of Thrillers and Possibly Horrors

  • Saya no Uta
  • Umineko
  • Kara no Shoujo
  • G-Senjou no Maou
  • Chaos;Head

Not sure I agree with flutterz on the "anything with pornographic content is porn" line... The idea behind porn is to get you aroused, but not all pornographic content (would it be clearer if I called them lewd scenes? Probably.) is for that purpose. Sometimes it's for character development or just because that happens to be a very usual part of life in some settings. I haven't seen GoT but I assume it's not there to get you hot. Like I said, "pornographic content" is probably a misnomer in some of these cases.

Plus, because something had degrees of intensity does not mean we can't and don't draw lines on them, right?

Well yeah, but if someone says they really don't like seeing porn for whatever reason, you're not going to show them GoT and say it's not really porn, are you? I mean, you'd be right, but at the same time that won't stop them from seeing it as porn and disliking it.
