  1. Finished Koiken Otome. For all my bitching and complaining, it was actually "ok" - if you set aside the fact the writing is terrible and so much of what happens in it is uttterly contrived. :makina: (Yves's route for example - pretty shaky territory as for how Yves falls for him - at least the other girls see him on a daily basis~ Or maybe that's why :miyako:)

I don't think it's the fault of the TL, but rather the developer - it feels like "baby's first VN" - there was a lot of half-baked ideas and serious pacing issues. There were some good ideas too, but they failed to capitalize on them - or rushed them/cut them short. The chuuni elements felt like afterthoughts, and clearly a weak point - this isn't a turn-based rpg, team mates and foes don't just stand around gawking while each person takes a turn, in the middle of a brawl :sachi:

Protag was a giant tool, which never helps my disposition~

Akane's route was the best constructed - possibly because they force her on you all throughout the common route - but it also had the best sense of "dillemma" all throughout. (aside from the "discovering their feelings" chapter, which I passed over :P )

Other routes were rather underwhelming, random noise, or sabotaged by the writer. Almost EVERY single time there was a serious scene, that had potential to invoke an emotion in me - they turned it into a LOL JOKES HAR HAR HUURRRR at the last moment - almost EVERY time.

Painful to read - had potential - but painful.

Maybe I'll finally read Dracuriot, @TexasDice said it's pretty much a better version of this, so at least I know it can't get any worse~

    I have finished Clannad.

My final review of Clannad is a 7.5/10

Clannad : for the first part, Kotomi route is the best, Tomoyo is best girl.

Clannad after story : WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!/10 and lame true end.

    That's all, i feel...exhausted...

    Kotomi is a qt <3

    Thoughts on the afterstory:

    Spoiler

The whole thing, or the bs Ushio death/time-loop at the end?

My ideal ending would be Ushio and Tomoya simply moving on in life - maybe Tomoya and Ushio's teacher, Kyou growing close.  :sachi: Not that random scene that wipes out the whole meaning to the afterstory~

Why doing it in the first place if it's only mindless grinding to you?

To see the extra content of course - 3 routes, and a ton of side content. It takes at least 4-5 playthroughs to 100% the game. By the time you're on the 3rd or 4th, it's not about "challenge" anymore - but completion.

Also, Tiag already raised many good points.

:)) I spent more than 20 hours farming, by the time I reached the end of the game yuela basically soloed most of the last dungeon cuz she was lv 70 :)) but I guess there is always room for more

I took yuela EVERYWHERE so she was more than twice the level of some of my less used party members :))

Think I might dust off my copy, been at least 3 years since I last played it, might even start completely fresh (ugh, the grind for ultimate weapon mats/ultiamte character charms will be real) :sachi:

You talking about it has piqued my interest in it again, lol. Though I still need to finish my slog through Koiken otome~

just a quick question, when should I do the extra stories? now or after I did all the 3 main routes?

Might as well do them when you think your team is ready to handle it - I recall not being able to do some of it until my 3rd playthrough~

EDIT: oh wait, I remember, those are the actual separate stories on the main menu, right? You probably want to do them once you've completely cleared the side characters' stories. Seem to recall some spoilers with the sidecast.

  6. Gotta say, Koiken Otome continues to be a frustrating read - it has potential - otherwise I would have dropped it by now - but I'm just a little bit into Akane's route, and I can't help but feel like the writer hates the reader, and is actively punishing me for reading the VN. :sachi:

How can I explain? You've heard the saying "carrot and the stick treatment" right? I feel like this is one of those VNs where the reader is sopposed to suffer the stick a ton, and then is likely later rewarded with a bunch of carrots. This is why I like somewhat OP MCs - you get carrots more frequently, so to speak - rather then having to deal with nothing but obnoxious frustration.

Well, Dies already has a PSP port where everything is 16:9 (not sure if it's cropped or whatever; I don't think I ever notice these things).

Probably safe to assume (if this really is coming to steam) it will be a port of the psp version than - it would neatly take care of several perceived issues all at once.

  8. Made a bit more progress with Koiken otome. At first I was excited to learn that the MC was powerful - but of course, the reader gets cock-blocked with the "story driven" nature of it. :makina:

I figured it would be something passive where he strengthens those around him - which I wasn't exactly wrong about - but the method, well...lol...

    Spoiler

    rUeXZJK.png

    /facepalm... I really should have known...but still...sigh... such a cheesy... well, it worked in Fate/Stay Night I guess :P

(for context, the MC sneezed on this guy) :amane:

Turning off the music and creating my own playlist seems to help me get into it a bit more, gotta agree with FTB and Chaosraven when it comes to atmosphere and music.

EDIT: Kaoru is turning out to be a very dangerous character - I'm starting to question many things :komari:

and even if it crops, let them. I also didn't understand why it was a problem with G-senjou cause if you never saw the original one you wouldn't complain, and for my knowledge nothing important was cut in the CGs. but people always need to complain about something I guess.

It was an obvious upscale, with some subtle distortions present - and that's coming from someone two steps from total blindness. :makina:  Though I'll admit knowing the original visuals may have drawn my attention to the differences moreso~

    http://waifu2x.udp.jp/ anyone? :sachi:

EDIT: Sorry, that's me derailing the thread :P, I should try and keep it focused on Dies~

  10. Finally got around to trying Koiken Otome, First time I've considered dropping a game this fast, solely due to the music. :makina:  The 3 tracks I've heard so far sound terrible - and really don't add anything to the scenes involved. Maybe I've just become picky over time? i dunno, just seems really...cheap? low-effort? unfeeling? /shrug.

Da Capo 2. Finished the infamous Koko's route. Now I understand TexasDice's warning...

      Reveal hidden contents

This couple of idiots drove me nuts...especially the protagonist. What an insufferable jerk ! I wish I was Wataru's fist, slapping his face  :saber:

I had to skip through that route, my blood pressure was starting to peak while reading it, lol :sachi:

I like to imagine a different ending:

    Spoiler

She gives him the middle finger while he's apologizing, and she moves away after that, and Kotori decides to have nothing to do with him either - The End. :makina:
