In my experience and those around me, it's simply not possible to remain "genuine" friends after attempting but failing to sustain a romantic loving relationship.

There's just something forever missing in the dynamic and chances are the two don't really want to associate w/ each other anymore (unless they're the break up and get back together 1000x type of relationship). You can be on good terms with each other though of course.

As for the lesser case where two individuals were friends, one confessed, and the other rejected (so the two didn't actually get into a relationship) I guess it can be easier to continue the friendship. They have to be super good friends prior though- enough to be able to joke about the rejection and whatnot

I found myself restraining myself from smashing my laptop with a ball peen hammer when I watched it. 

Artwork was the only decent part about it.  Every single character was terrible aside from Noe.  Every.  Single.  One.
 
It was original in the same way that walking into a 4 star restaurant and ordering a sirloin when later the waiter brings you out a plate of his own vomit is original.

the point is, that the whole pseudo drama evolving around your non-immouto doesnt justify the following break up with noe & throwing her literally away like some garbage. this left me with a really disgusted feeling, beacause you (the viewer) are meant to identify yourself with the mc, thus you are the very worst.

absolutely hated the anime & raged about its ending.

It links in with what Eldrich was saying though.  It wasn't a tragedy and supposed to happen, it just happened for no reason what-so-ever.  
 
I have a serious rage-hate of this anime.  Stronger than I've felt on any other show ever.

Hi Im Krills wife Cathy or as he calls me Angel I will gladly give updates on his condition to anyone who ask He is home from the hospital He was released on Monday he was in the hospital 6 days He had about 6 or 7 mini strokes that went undetected and then a much larger stroke that caused alot of damage to his brain He has in one week regained the ability to use his voice to make words eat solid foods and the knowledge of were he is and what year it is Walking Feeding himself Showering unassisted These things he was unable to do by Monday night of last week The day i took him to the hospital he thought it was 1925 He has a severe case of aphasia  His speech has suffered the most he cant recognize alot of things yet but He is going to start therapy this weekend to regain as much of all that back as possible The drs say he will regain alot back but there was quite a bit of damage from the strokes that killed brain cells and areas of the brain so there are things he will never get back 

I think you have to end it, it's too painful otherwise and probably would never be the same and lead to suffering on one or both sides. 
 
Friendship between opposite sexes can exist when the other party is taken (as long as you're noble enough to respect that) or any other condition that makes them un-datable.  Other than that, I would say no, there is always the force of attraction.  
 
So yes, the only "real" friendships are when there's no attraction.
