  1. If anything, the protagonist is a moron and his friend is more normal. Rewrite is worth it mainly for the true route anyway.
  2. It's just my personal opinion, as a vanilla fan. It actually feels like a gentle act and not your typical "protag gets on top of the heroine whether she likes it or not". Although if we only consider Moonstone games' H-scene quality, https://vndb.org/v16069 is even better due to the art style (untranslated though).
  3. Don't know about Kanon, but Clannad and Canvas 2 all had your typical mostly hetare protagonists.
  4. It's pretty good. PE's main value is in H-scenes if you ask me, though, I found the rest of it fairly boring. But then again I'm not exactly a fan of moege.
  5. Don't worry, you're not alone. There's at least me and a certain chat regular with you on this one.
  6. @ChaosRaven You are working on the assumption that H-scenes are there to have a meaning in the first place. Their first and foremost point is titillation, it's only natural that most H-scenes don't really make sense. The developers have to put them in the game in such a way as to create the right mood leading to them. If you simply had a timeskip at the end of the game straight into an H-scene, other questions would arise, such as "how are they doing now, in general?" and it would simply feel too sudden. Try to be a bit more forgiving, is all I'm saying. Poorly-made H-content bothers me too, but I've come to realize that some elements are unavoidable.
  7. As for utsuge, I've seen enough to know it will actually happen. If it didn't, the title in question wouldn't be tagged with utsuge in the first place. It ends up being a foregone conclusion. Pretentiousness Example 1: I'll do everything for it, no matter what it takes! Ah, but I can't do this, this, this, this is unthinkable entirely - and really all I can do is shout and be a braindead hot-blooded protagonist. https://vndb.org/v92 Example 2, more common: the world is a cold place, and since I grew up here, I'm the same way. That doesn't mean I won't break my character every now and then to be surprisingly kind and act according to the society's norms because otherwise a lot of players will be put off, go refund the game and the VN company will have to close doors. https://vndb.org/v1896 Example 3: No murder allowed. Characters in action titles keep talking about how it may be necessary, but will never do it. Guns will always be used to magically "neutralize" human enemies without killing anyone, because good guys never kill, no matter how evil the bad guy is, right? If the bad guy has to die no matter what, he'll end up dying on his own, one way or the other, thus conveniently avoiding any guilt for the good guy. Most action anime out there, https://vndb.org/v5154 Think about it, have you even seen any anime where the protagonist kills a human? Barely anything goes far enough. Example 4: Cop outs. Provide strong indications of heavy plot, then brush it off as misunderstandings and go the lighthearted way. Generally moege, https://vndb.org/v16069
  8. Utsuge that doesn't hide it. If I know beforehand that everything's going to shit anyway, I don't feel the tension I would feel from a title with unpredictable outcomes. Moege that have something resembling a somewhat serious plot that turns into happy endings in every route (think Dracu-Riot, Koichoco). I might feel it the first time, but it gets old after that. Aside from that... pretentiousness, lolis, 3Ps, harems, weird fetishes, promiscuity, sexism (to various degrees). Most of the VNs I end up playing have something I hate, but I can bear with some things to a degree if the VN has something I really like.
  9. What you wrote there is wrong. The TL is okay except for the Mifuyu route where it's utter garbage, making you wonder if they threw it into a machine TL because this game was taking long enough to translate as it was.
  10. If PE and NW are charage, what does that make character-focused titles with strong plot, such as heroine death or otherwise not fully happy endings? The charage classification ends up being way too broad. Even if moege was originally the VN version of moeblob anime, I believe the term describes both Princess Evangile and Noble Works quite well.
  11. I'm not really a fan of drool, but the fluids "down there" make it much more erotic.
  12. I beg to differ. If there are too few fluids, it's not hot enough for me.
  13. Call a game shit to gather likes. Yep, that's the fuwa I know.
  14. They should all be of similar length. It's pretty much the standard with these games.
  15. Got linked this. I have no use for it, but you might http://cheatsheets.nihonshock.com/basic-japanese-digital.pdf
  16. That's not what the OP is talking about. Visual Novel Reader is a program that adds machine TL or submitted TL to visual novels.
  17. I can get behind H2O as it's a beautiful and nostalgic title that is unquestionably worth the attention of every romance fan, just make sure you disregard the fandisk as it completely betrays the original VN. Yui and Hamaji routes should never have seen the light of day in the first place, while the after stories destroy the atmosphere of the original and break the protagonist's character.
  18. It does actually get good in the routes. Well, the story is still shit but the comedy and the H-scenes are good. In my case I never liked tsundere before I played this game, but it became my favourite archetype by the time I was done.
  19. A fan of romance and former metalhead over here. Though I've switched to EDM, I still usually enjoy listening to metal when I come across it. I skip openings and most endings too, tho in case of openings it's mostly to avoid seeing spoiler CGs. There's almost always a few of them flashing for a split second, but if you know what to look for they'll get burnt in your mind right away whether you like it or not.
  20. Isn't plot located on the rear side? Edit: nvm, that was MLP
  21. I don't know about all of Lump of Sugar, "but Hello, good-bye" left a fairly good impression on me. Actually started playing Gaku ☆ Ou just a few days ago, and while it's clearly a different kind of game I'm finding it quite enjoyable. The writing is a good level above generic moege, the plot premise is pretty nice and the protagonist is a sincere and hardworking guy, not what you see in 95% moege out there. Meanwhile Pulltop keeps making titles with harems, which is one of my biggest pet peeves. What exactly is wrong with Lump of Sugar anyway?
  22. I think you're talking about Circus here. No, Pulltop. Circus only produced DA CAPO and a bunch of vn's, no one even cares about, nor remembers anymore. You still have much to learn, son At least they're not milking one and the same franchise to the point where you start to give up wondering how people still buy that crap every time. Da Capo is nothing but filler content. Reused plot, reused dialogue, slightly remixed music for new titles, shit humour and zero value. For all the countless releases and re-releases of the same old kusoge. Still coming out and still getting translated. The hype for Da Capo 3 TL only died down due to the slow progress, there's still tons of people out there waiting.
