I mentioned in the What are you playing? thread, but I'm rereading Grisaia.
almost finished with the common route, and I'm eager to start reading through each girl's route a second time.
I'm enjoying the story all over again

Yes, many times.  However, I have a few pieces of advice for you.
    1.  Make sure that it has been at least a year (preferably two or three) since you played it.
    2.  Are you the type that rereads novels?  Then you should be ok in theory.
Overall, I only reread ones where there is a strong emotional or intellectual element that might take on new facets on a new playthrough.  Devils Devel concept is one where I only got a fifth of what was going on the first time, and with each successive reading (up to five now), I've found something new to obsess over.
Clannad is a nakige, so as long as you like to cry, you should be fine.  Emotional moments are emotional moments, after all.

Honestly, I can see nothing wrong with VNDB: I find it a truly amazing site and hard to believe that so many VNs are covered in an easy to look up way. There are so many trash VNs out there that I surely would have given up on VNs if not for that site. Since I don't use VNDB on mobile devices there is not a single thing I can complain about. I hope the site continues to exist as long as I read VNs
And if you are really not sure about the rating of a VN try the VNDB profiles of Fuwa members like Clephas said and see how they rated it. I do that a lot to get an even better idea!

AustriaVNFan reacted to Ramaladni in The VN market and what can we learn from Yuzusoft, Hyperdimenional Neptunia and Nekopara
It's an interesting post but there's a few false equivalents. Such as, this company is successful, so it means that their marketing/business strategy is the recipe for success. Well, without sales figures it's quite difficult to tell for certain, but I'd say these games are sucessful for different reasons.
For example, Neptunia was poignant at the time for its meta-commentary on RPGs, overused tropes and videogames in general. In reality, the gameplay is quite lacking, even on the remake, and the story gets old pretty fast, becoming a victim of the tropes it parodies. Although, it is important to note that the remake was rewritten, while the original had a more interesting and fresh story.
Nekopara's success has a lot to owe to its short length, cheap price, beautiful art by Sayori and most of all, the E-mote system (whatever you may call it). That is, having the characters move and breathe, as if they were really alive inside our very screens.

But beautiful art, a cool story and characters...blah, blah, blah, none of that matters. What matters is memes.
No matter how good or bad Neptunia was at the time, it became popular because of its almost cult following in communities like 4chan, where many gamers for the first time felt that they were playing a game made for them specifically, as people, through the use of constant forth wall breaks. They felt that the characters resembled them in certain ways and it helped strengthen this bond between them. Over time, I'd say that Neptunia de-evolved into mere yuri bait, but I risk triggering the anger of many fans.
Nekopara instantly became known as "the game where you can fuck cute catgirls". To those people who weren't deep enough into otaku culture to know about the existence of bishoujo games, Nekopara might've been their first contact with the genre. And what can I say, it helps that it doesn't beat around the bush with an overcomplicated plot, to the point where it can almost be labeled a "moenukige". Above all, this game is important because it is an escapism fantasy for us humans, who live in a world ruled by cats, giving us the illusion that for once we can rule over the cats.
What these games have in common is being poignant at the time, offering something fresh or never-before-seen...but it's difficult to predict that a game will or not spread like wildfire on social media. An example would DDLC, which is innovating in a way because of how it messes with your game files, but it got popular thanks to its shock factor. It also helps that it's short and a free-to-play game.

So, the idea of releasing a translation on as many languages as possible isn't exactly worthwhile especially since most people can speak English and most eroge aren't exactly Shakespearan novels either...and while it is important for Japanese developers to take in account the foreign audiences when making their game, they run the risk of adapting the game to fit certain standards or values, robbing them of what made us like them in the first place.

It happens to me, too. I usually try to read only one VN at a time. But sometimes I get distracted by other games that are not VNs. This usually happens when I read VNs that don't appeal to me that much. Then I might have longer breaks (perhaps up to 2 weeks). But in the end I still continue and finish them. I am pretty proud that I finished every VN that I started so far (with one exception but that was because it was in Japanese and I wanted to get better at that language before continuing it).
I know that if I started a new exciting VN while reading a pretty boring one then I would probably drop it altogether so I avoid that at all costs.
and yeah! Time's always too short!

I am very much with Nandemonai here. Even if I blot out all the h scenes I simply cannot find much sense in the story. And the fact that the true route made all others more or less obsolete just added to the frustration. Many disgusting h scenes + an utterly senseless story makes this my worst VN reading experience so far.

I'm pretty sure no one missed it. No one even said it's incomprehensible, it's just... Dumb and unconvincing. A good setup drowned in ridiculous, overly convoluted sci-fi dribble and over-the-top plot twists. I understand people loving this game for its atmosphere and the psychological parts, but I find the overarching mystery plot absolutely indefensible. It doesn't make the game awful IMO, but doesn't deserve to be treated seriously.

I have the exactly same question as you.
Searching I was only able to find this very old and vague post from Mangagamer explaining the differences. Sorry, I'm also lost but at least I can share with you this.
    Source: https://mangagamer.wordpress.com/2011/10/07/ef-the-first-tale-updates/
(It's kinda fun to browse the old blog and see how much Mangagamer has grown and changed.)
I've also found at the end of the post a image of the manual in a blog that reviewed the LE of ef and say a little about the differences.
    Source: https://normanicgrav.blogspot.com/2015/02/unboxing-ef-fairy-tale-of-two-limited.html
And if someone can be more specific about the changes between NNL's script and Minori's script, I would be very happy to listen.

I finished the little VN 'This was for you' (a short review of it is here) which I found very charming.
Now I have unexpectedly (because it was on sale on Steam) started Grisaia no Kajitsu. I started reading it yesterday and while I have no idea where the story will be going I can already say: finally a cool MC! It's really awesome to see such a proactive MC. So far I am intrigued and looking forward to continue reading tonight. And funny how I started it even though it had been nowhere on my list.

AustriaVNFan got a reaction from Happiness+ in My NaNoReNo 2019 Visual Novel
All right, I read it and here is what I think:
First of all the most important thing: I found it a very charming little VN. I could feel the love it was made with and I liked the many little details like the email thing and the VN thing or the overlapping images at certain points. The cat bot was really sweet, too
Perhaps one thing I found strange: not all voiced parts were fully voiced. There were times when there was text but the voice was missing even though it was still the same person speaking. And yeah, sure, the graphics were not overwhelming and rather simple but they were still good enough and had their own charm.
Concluding this little review I am fascinated how - with relatively simple means - this VN manages to create a unique atmosphere that makes it a very nice read. Thank you for sharing

I'd like to see less of a divide between EVNs and JVNs. The thing is, I can understand why someone would have a preference for one or the other--the JVNs that get translated into English tend to have higher production values but also tend to be more expensive as a result; EVNs are more accessible (to English speakers) but have a much wider spectrum of quality (since, by and large, we don't get the worst JVNs). JVNs also tend to be longer than EVNs, which can be either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference. But I think that dismissing a VN solely because of the language it was originally written in is just plain silly.

Phew! Yesterday I finally finished ChuSinGura46+1 and wow, was that a long one!
And while there is no doubt that this VN can be called epic it was also far from perfect. Although many aspects are hard to judge because of one thing - the horrible translation! Now I am really not very strict about translations. If I see little errors here and there I don't mind. But this TL (Steam version) was extremely bad. Most of the times I could imagine what the translator was trying to tell me but there were points where it was just gibberish. I am not a native English-speaker but I am sure it would have been a lot better if I had done some proof-reading. It seems to me like this was translated by someone whose native language is definitely not English. But I will try to still be objective about the game since the translation is not really a part of it.
About the story: The VN is about the MC shifting back in time to the timeline where the story of the 47 ronins happens. He lives through that happening 5 times (5 chaptrers) and uncovers a conspiracy surrounding the events. While lots of the events and acting characters are authentic the conspiracy thing is fiction AND of course the 47 ronins being almost exclusively female is also fiction. Other than that many historic details are integrated in the story.
The story is usually quite exciting to follow and uncovering the different happenings in the various time loops and getting to know each of the ronins is fun. The sword fights and duels are also well made and well placed, not too many of them so that it never gets boring. But there are also a few moments where the story seems to drag on (for me mainly in the 3rd and 5th chapter). The conclusion of the story is technically well made and fun to read although I still think there are many questions left open and things unexplained (but perhaps it was the bad TL?).
In the romance department I have mixed feelings. I played the Steam all ages version and the romance with the heroines (each loop has a different love interest) seemed ok although sometimes the MC seemed extremely dumb (especially in Yasubee's route) while Chikara behaved totally strange in her route (she seems completely different in the other routes). It was also the first time in a VN where I was asking myself if I missed something because of a cut out h scene (4th chapter) as the relationship between the characters seemed quite different afterwards (don't want to spoil who it is )
The cast of characters is HUGE! And they are well drawn and interesting and likable (well, most of them). I really enjoyed the diversity of characters in this game and there are still new characters showing up in the 5th chapter.
I liked these 4 characters most:
Yasubee: She was the only main heroine I really got into. I liked her honesty and clear principles, but also her cool-headedness when needed and I think her route was the best. Sayo: She was a very sharp and cute character. How she always gets her point across and realizes what's going on is really cool. Well done making such a young character so interesting and enjoyable! Fuwa Kazuemon: A pity she didn't get highlighted more. I found Fuwa a very funny character with her wild manners. Yet, although she seemed so unruly at times she was probably the most loyal character of all. Shimizu Ichigaku: An beautifully drawn character that perfectly fits the role of the villain. I liked her looks, her behavior and also her voice acting. Simply awesome! All that said I wish there would have been a bit more of an epilogue. I was surprised that the game ended where it ended
Oh and btw. this is actually a kinetic VN. There is one choice (ha, that was almost shocking ) in the third chapter, but that's it.

Well, it's true. All of these tropes have their fans and their haters. The thing is there are so many recurring tropes in nearly every VN that it happens very rarely you will only get those that you are a fan of. But as a VN fan you usually know this is bound to happen, so you just swallow the hate parts and fight through them hoping the good parts make up for it

Neverthless, I changed it to "Playing" since I plan to resume it eventually.

AustriaVNFan reacted to Clephas in Clephas's Intro into Untranslated VNs by Genre
I previously did a simple 'starter list' of relatively easy to read VNs.  However, they were all over the place, and the likelihood of anyone finding a VN that was spot-on in that list was unlikely.  As such, I decided to make a list of five recommendations from each genre for someone who is just starting to play untranslated VNs but isn't up to reading the hardest language out there.  Keep in mind that chuunige and plotge in general have - at the very least - slightly inflated difficulty levels as a result of the writers' tendencies and the fact that narrative/literary Japanese is fundamentally different to those accustomed to dialogue-only mediums like anime or manga.  I'm excluding gameplay hybrids because the sheer amount of crap you have to read without a text hooker in those means beginners won't be able to handle them for the most part without some kind of interface patch or guide.
    Chuunige
Bloody Rondo (note that I don't recommend this because it is awesome - it isn't - but because it is heavy on slice-of-life for a chuunige and relatively dialogue-heavy)
    Sora no Tsukurikata
    Unjou no Fairy Tale
Ryuukishi Bloody Saga (if you want to, you can play the dark rapegame prequel... but I don't recommend it for the faint of heart)
    Draculius
Nakige (note that I'm not including anything Purple Soft and Saga Planets because their games are heavy on wordplay that even an experienced reader will sometimes miss out on)
    Haru to Yuki
Koi Suru Doll to Omoi no Kiseki
    Moshimo Ashita ga Harenaraba
Soshite Hatsukoi ga Imouto ni Naru (for true beginners, I recommend this or Haru to Yuki for lower difficulty levels from this part of the list)
        Sci-fi Plotge
    Komorebi no Nostalgica
    Re:Birth Colony Lost Azurite
    Fake Azure Arcology
Fantasy Plotge (some action but not action-focused or chuuni)
Ou no Mimi ni wa Todokanai
    Curio Dealer
Hyakka Ryouran Elixir (yep, these are all AXL games... simply because no one else does this anymore)
Tiny Dungeon series (this is harem, so if you don't like harem, you probably won't like this)
Moege/Charage (Yuzu Soft aren't included because their reading difficulty is often too high for beginners)
Haruru Minamo ni (Straight fantasy ero charage with just enough plot to keep it from being mundane/boring)
Love Revenge (If you want to know what my idea of a 'decent charage' is based off of, play this)
Natsuiro Recipe (for those who want their heart healed in a rural Japanese setting)
Kanojo to Ore no Lovely Day
    Miscellaneous Plotge
    Yomegami: My Sweet Goddess!
    Satsukoi
    Tsuisou no Augment
    Utsuge
    Inochi no Spare ('soft' utsuge)
Konata yori Kanata made (a 'soft' utsuge probably the only true kamige on this list)
    Houkago no Futekikakusha ('hard' utsuge)
Kanojo wa Tenshi de Imouto de  (yes, despite appearances, this is a soft utsuge)
