Interest stacks (user-made collections) on MAL. After all, I'm not the only weirdo around with this kind of "taste". ;]

Hi, I'm Omnidream. I'm new here. I've worked on translation, localization and bug testing on a few games before. I'm happy to be part of the community!

The quality and variety of sprites will probably matter more than the number of CG in this sort of game.  Reserve full CG for climactic points that you want to highlight.
But I suspect your question is actually about the game's presentation on your store page.  CG make for good promotional images.  Your Steam page is definitely suffering from a shortage of high-quality screenshots--you even included a fairly non-descript title screen!  Text screenshots can be ok, but the re-use of the same background in all such images gives a cheap/bland feel and evokes a scope that is suffocatingly claustrophobic (are we really going to be talking to the demon on a single static background the whole game???).  Right now the most evocative screenshot is probably the one of the puzzle gameplay.
You need variety and movement in the artwork (sprites, background, CG), in the game also but especially in the screenshots.  Even if the game takes place entirely within one room, you'll need multiple backgrounds and perhaps versions of those backgrounds.  If your focus is on horror, simple filters over the backgrounds (blur, change in color, etc.) at appropriate moments could add a lot to the atmosphere (really key in the horror genre) without running up costs.  And if push comes to shove, generative AI is always an option for increasing variety at low cost--it seems to be pretty decent at backgrounds.
In short, by making good use of sprites and backgrounds, you'll actually reduce your dependence on expensive CG to create movement and immersion.
I suppose I should give a brief nod to what I like too.  The character artwork is appealing and the single background you've shown is adequate for the task.  The quality is there, you just need sufficient quantity.  The screenshots show multiple high-quality sprite poses, which leaves a favorable impression, though showcasing changes in facial expression would further increase appeal.

Hi there! I'd like to share my art with you and ask for your feedback on the style. I've combined pixel text, manga brush, and a simple brush in a single image. I hope it works well, but I need your feedback.
Additionally, I'd like to know how many scene artworks my game should have. I'm concerned about creating fewer than what my fans expect, so I would really appreciate your suggestions. Thank you for your attention! 🙂

Plk_Lesiak got a reaction from ihateuall34 in lets talk about incest. :mare emote:
Incest is not my "fetish" in any way, but I find it a good material for all kinds of "forbidden love" storylines and those, when well written, can have a lot of charm (as I've mentioned a few times before, I can be hopelessly romantic).
Obviously in many games it's done to attract people with taboo porn and incest is simply the strongest, most universal sexual taboo out there. It's just like in "real" porn industry, you have brother/sister, father/daughter (etc.) themed videos all over Pornhub. But when done seriously, I think it can be an interesting story premise and because it's already an established trope in manga and anime, VN developers don't have many reasons to avoid using it. Also, as usually VNs doesn't force into romance routes, it's not even that risky to include incest when it goes to reception by the readers - people that don't like it will just avoid it.
Also, in more general terms of incest as a social taboo, I had a long discussion about it lately, in this thread:

Still listening to obscure Japanese R&B, including this girls: Furui Riho. Her songs are a tiny bit generic, but in a pleasant way and damn if she's not a talented one + a natural born performer.

So, I was dead for like a month and a half, but The Magical Revolution brought me back to life. I was waiting so long for a yuri show that would be genuinely fun and to the point, and holy crap, Anis really does not beat around the bush, she goes straight for the goal. I really hope for like two seasons of this and the romance blooming properly, it will be my dream anime at that point.
Also, what a weird, isekai-filled season. Not sure how much of it I'll end up watching, instead of catching up on my backlog for example, but I'll definitely stick with Reborn to Master the Blade, seems like a really fun, lighthearted show that will benefit a lot from the adaptation into anime.
And then, despite the meh CGI, I was quite impressed with the first two episodes of Nier: Automata. I feel like the authors are fully aware that they won't be able to fully present the complexities of the original, so they focus on showing its emotional impact and tone. The episode two in particular wasn't afraid to give a lot of time to a semi-random side story about the machines, from what I heard taken from some spin-off media and not the game itself, but which was extremely artistic and wonderfully established the moral complexities and cruel nature of the setting. Not sure how easily someone completely unfamiliar with the original would follow (I didn't play it, but I read a lot about its story), but it seems like something even random viewers should appreciate for the creativity and vibes.

I personally wished for Club Suicide, Hana Awase and Blackish House. I'm thankful for any otome or BL game they pick up tho!
    Good luck to everyone!
(Also Mangagamer only picks up PC games. Otomate and Rejet games are hopeless choices here for otome games just as a heads up)

At first glance, this upcoming season is filled with continuations of the series that I haven't watched and dumb-looking isekais. I almost lost hope for this season, but further down the list there are actually quite a few series that may turn out quite good. And it is also quite crazy that this upcoming season will have not one but three (!) gender-benders, including the gold that is Oniichan wa Oshimai. Though from time to time this gold seems suspiciously pee-colored.
The reincarnated master of blade anime, on the other hand, may turn out to be pretty dumb. I liked the LN, and it had a pretty interesting world and good fight scenes, but nothing more than that.
The one series I am excited the most about is The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady. From the little I've seen from the LN, it seemed extremely good, with likable characters who had quite a lot of room for development, and it's definitely a good choice for the third villainess anime. It's also yuri where the MC is extremely open about liking girls. 😇 I'll probably try reading the novels first though, so if I get to this anime this season, it will most likely be by the end of it.
Other than that... There's Trails anime, which I won't watch since I'm still at Sky the 3rd. Sugar Apple Fairy Tale seems interesting, and I believe the original light novel is quite well-regarded, but untranslated. There's also another anime based on the novel by the author of Average Abilities. I don't know if I watch this one. I haven't read the novel, and I had some extremely mixed opinions about this author. Average Abilities adaptation was also kind of trash, so...

Heart of the Woods and Highway Blossoms definitely deserve to be on the list. I would also lobby heavily for Sable's Grimoire (for doing a really interesting spin on magic academy & demi-human tropes) and possibly Love Ribbon (for doing a lesbian incest story that makes sense).
I'll probably make a less half-assed post soon, maybe shill some more ebi-hime stuff. I'm kind of dead though, so we'll see how and when exactly. 😛

Apologies for the minorly late reply, my studies (and my sloth) kept me busy (and not so busy).
First of all, you do have to tell me why to get something on the list: I want something I can link to and quote. If you just mention something in passing saying it's worth a mention, that's fair but not enough to get on the big bad list at the top. @Templarseeker
Also, I wish Shining Song Starnova and its abominable faux-bad-translation writing style didn't exist. This doesn't mean I won't add it with a reason as to why you like it given, I just personally absolutely hate it unless they did a 180 from the style of the demo, which I don't think they did.
Second, regarding LLTQ I don't think I want most things not on vndb on the list, especially those that are more of a emergent gameplay style. This is, of course, my personal opinion, but what the heck, I did make the thread. That said, I'd consider To The Moon and the like.
Third, while I'm not going to be overly strict I will probably deprioritize repeat authors somewhat (especially if suggested by the same person). Ebi-hime is good, but we can't have her taking up half the list. Even though I am somewhat tempted. Maybe five or so representative ones. Ahem.
Anyway, Sweetest Monster and Heart of the Woods have enough text to put them on the list I guess. I actually started reading HotW a little while ago and it's not too bad, though I was expecting even higher production values I think. There were some weird bugs in the version I got from itch.io where an option did the opposite of what it said it did, the beginning text overflowing the textbox due to being too big, etc. The voices are kind of interesting because they chose really low voices for like every character. It was a bit weird at first, to be honest. I haven't quite felt like reading it again for a bit, but maybe I will soon again. @Silvz
Since you're gearing up for a more poggers post, I'll wait for it before adding your suggestions @Plk_Lesiak.

Of all of the three titles that I've suggested, I suppose Corpse Factory is the most pretty interesting of the bunch, there are still a couple of other EVNs to mention like the the yuri VNs Heart of the Woods and Highway Blossoms The first Sunrider VN is a decent VN SRPG hybrid, very affordable since its Free on both GOG and Steam.  Shining Song Starnova is a interesting title too!

Also is it alright to include Long Live the Queen in the list or not since VNDB does not classify it as a VN and more of a management game rather?

Glad you revived this sort of thing. Anything to connect the gap between the EVN and JVN crowd I think is a good thing. I don't have too much to add, but here are some I quite like that I haven't seen mentioned here yet:
Juniper's Knot: A short, well written story that nearly a decade later still leaves quite a good impression. Focused on the interactions between a lost boy and a demon confined within a magic circle, it has some folklore-ish vibes to it. However, the bouncing between the two perspectives of the boy and the demon girl adds a modern flare to a story that otherwise does feel like it could be within a Grimm Fairy Tales book. This is all not to mention the beautiful art. For more info here's a review.
Digital: A Love Story : "It's not what you say, it's how you say it that matters", is the first thing that comes to mind with this VN. The story itself is quite simple, but the presentation is so excellent that it makes up for where the story might slack. Especially as somebody who is quite fascinated with old computers, I loved how the whole story is told through BBS messages. BBS standing for Bulletin Board System, and was essentially the internet before the internet. Its presentation mimics said environment very convincingly as well.
The Dandelion Girl: Another entry in that short and sweet department. Although often overshadowed by it's more successful sibling (the other 4chan visual novel, Katawa Shoujo), I think its charm shines through. And that's really the appeal I find with this VN. It's nothing amazing, but has a soulful charm to it.
I guess I'm just preserving the classics with this post, but I'm sure if @Plk_Lesiak sees this, he will have some more up to date VNs to mention.
Btw, glad to see that mine got a mentioned. Even if it's just to be polite.

    Well, I am.
Anyway, I've watched the current episodes of Bocchi the Rock, and it was pretty good. I've never really watched any music-based anime, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but so far it's been pretty enjoyable, and the comedy is gold. As someone who also suffers from pretty strong social anxiety, I like how they presented the protagonist. It's overly exaggerated, of course, but I did find myself in many of her antics, and it didn't feel particularly offensive like how often Japanese comedy tends to be. On the other hand, she does grow throughout the show, but obviously she still has a long way to go.

Hello everybody, my name is Jacob.

I'm the head writer and programmer of the OELVN Siren's Call. It took about four years, but we recently completed the project. I'm pretty new to fuwanovel, but can see there's a lot of creatives floating around here that are either trying to make their own VN or are at least interested in the process of what it takes to make one. Because it's such a daunting process (at least for me it was), I want to do what I can to answer any nagging fears or inquires the community has about what it takes to really get to the point where you can finish making one of these things. Lately, I feel like my experiences have just kind of been rotting inside my own head, so I want to use what I've learned for something other than just working on my second project.

If you're making a VN and feel lost/confused about what to do next, how to stay motivated, or even if you wanna know more about what the process is like, then let's talk about it! Be it programming, asset creation, marketing, story-boarding, expectations,...let's get a conversation going about what it's really like to make one of these!

Oh, I wasn't talking about this story in particular. As little as I remember about the original novel, I'm pretty sure she was definitely not like that. 😅 I was mostly just rambling about the villainess genre in general and why I don't follow it as closely as I used to. On the other hand, there are still a lot of really good and creative stories there. And, well, even among stories that follow that formula there are some enjoyable ones.
On another note, have you watched Bibliophile Princess from this season? I'm pretty curious about what people think about this one.

I liked the first season of Bakarina, but when it ended I realized that I wouldn't watch the second season, nor read the original. I just felt that the first season did everything that it could with the setting, and the continuation wouldn't add anything new to it.
To be honest though, when it comes to LNs and manga, villainess stories at this point are just as overdone as regular littpg isekais. Usually it's just the same story over and over again: the villainess is actually a literal angel, but nobody understands that; the original heroine is a complete sadistic bitch, and the original love interests are just idiots. Though there are some decent ones as well.
