While I find your comparison to Muv Luv Extra extremely questionable, you should read some other Key VNs after this. Say what you want about Maeda's nakige formula (and it is a finely honed formula at this point), his sense of humor is genuinely great and he writes some really good protagonists. Especially give Air a shot if you liked Kanon's protagonist. People also like to shit on Key common routes for being overlong but shit, they're way too entertaining for me to care about them not progressing the actual storylines at all.

Kanon / MLE - while MLE was much more uberturboextra overthetop, and Kanon is very laid back, their humor is still very...random at points. Also, a lot of humour is coming from protag making fun of dumbness of heroines. And not 'girls being moe and dumb', or "humorously" mocking protag. Same as in MLE.
I will read other Key titles someday. There is not that much trnslated titles anyway, so entering the Keyworld was inevitable at some point. :P
I know a lot about Air, cause my friend is reading it right now, and we tend to exchange impressions a lot. He was basically my main reason to even look at Kaon. ;)
I also like that style of common route - following every step of protagonists, day after day. Make immersion much greater as opposed to Grisaia, which was just random scenes.

The phenomenon Vory's experiencing is the VN Rollercoaster effect, where he finally reached the upward 'ERMERGAWD, THIS SHIT IS THE BEST THING EVARRR' trend which typically follows the downward 'Old Grumpy Grump cannot Enjoy Nice Things Anymore' trend

After having gone through a disappointing E17 not being as godly as he was anticipating which resulted in his questioning the purpose of life and a myriad of other doubts, his expectations plummeted rock bottom

But, with lower expectations also comes a higher chance to enjoy. Hence the Kanon. and the loving of Awful Crooked Art.

"Vory" :vinty: This makes me look like some kind of vore fan. I do liked Marunomi, but still. :wafuu:
While I agree about what you said here, I don't know about loving the art part. I knew how ridiculous Key artworks are. I knew what to expect. Still, it win me over somehow.

Also Kanon is very, very strange VN for me. There is a shitload of tropes I usually hate and rage about. Girl making noises at night, and when finally protag wakes up, she tells him he should slept longer, becuase it's weekend. If it would be Chinami from Hoshimemo... I would probably ragequit and need a few moments to cool down. Here I just smiled. I don't know why it is that way. But I will find out. :P
But Tsundere characters here is still a Tsundere - she ruins the mood, and I don't like her at all.

Last thing -it's hard not to get expectations from titles like E17. All those 10/10, scifi, 'trapped' tag on vndb, solidbatman review on fuwa... I probably should just stop looking at any grades whatsoever. ;p

  2. What the hell happened.
Kanon. Simple little old VN by Key.
    1) One of the best protagonists ever. Sarcastic, no bullshit, no pandering to stupid airheads, normal guy.
    2) Humour on par with Muv Luv Extra (some similiarities in randomness) and Majikoi. I twice nearly cried of laughter and countless times laughed out loud (in only 3-4 hours of reading!)
    3) Choices system. It's great. It works perfectly. I can choose if I want protag to be a meek asshole who only smiles to everybody, or I can choose him to be direct, honest almost assholish Greatest Protag Ever. Quick example. Girl is helping him unpack his boxes after he moved to a new house. Protag is saying in his narration that she abrely did anything. Girl is happily asking if she was helpful. Choice 'Yeah, you were' or 'No, you were more of a hindrance'. Sucha a great choice. Such an enjoyable system.
    4) Awful, awkward, crooked art. And I love it. It's great. It's awful, but great. If it makes any sense.
    5) Great 'just one more line' syndrom. It's 4:20 at night here I need to wake up at least at 10, but I just can't stop reading! :D

I love it. LOVE it. Haven't feel such a joy from VN (I felt a lot of incredible emotions, but dread or utter sadness from FataMorgana is not exactly 'joy') since I read Majikoi. ^^

  3. I'm suddenly out of my VN laptop for a week. So instead of reading Swan Song I'm reading Kanon, which I luckily had on my pendrive.
And I love translation style they made here. No localisation 'burgerjapan' bullshit, simple encyclopedia for japanesse things!

    4FxtXZj.png
(this is backlog, originally Shoten was written in blue colour to show that it's encyclopedia entry).
    DehcVnV.png
    1Z8dbEh.png
And I love the laid back atmosphere, soundtrack, and even heroine with normally annoying traits (airhead, waking up protag through her noisemaking and saying that she should sleep more, etc) is great and I like her very much. :P

  4. First. Protag is coming to his house and literally narration says that every little piece of glass is broken.
Next line is protag pouring burbon on his wound. Yup, yup. A little inconsistency here I see. :P

Second. Winter. Cold. Blizzard. Emergency. Non sufficent clothes. Shelter. Cold, but at least there is no wind. All of them sit down on some big rag-blanket. AND THEY TAKE OF THEIR FUCKING SHOES. xD I love Japan. Sigh.

    Third. Humane characters... yeah, right.
    6VoIney.png

FFS. But. I actually knew at least one person who was as bitchy as her (at least in her first scene), so yeah, she's 'realistic'. But they could have wrote story without most annoying archetype ever. But no, 'everybody loves tsundere'.

Tsundere is basically same shit as netorare.

I know this is not a thread for this, but I love to leting out my impressions about vns, and have no idea where to write it, without flooding 'What are you playing?' thread xD

jeeeeeeesus fuck, and you're asking for other recommendations

    get on Umineko like yesterday

that said I'm only partway through Swan Song and haven't even touched the others, but voted for that anyway, I kind of like it so far.

I'll start with 07th later, when I finish my 'already on disc' backlog. I'm still young, I have time. ;)

Swan Song is probably the most up your alley. I think you'll find the mysteries in Flowers more frustrating than anything; I considered them a negative to the game, not just because of my personal tastes but also because I felt they were often executed pretty poorly.

    Huh. Thanks for warning.

Okay folks, case closed - Swan Song it is. Thanks for all your votes and posts, I would like them all, but I reached my limit (10 for a day). :)

  6. I finished ever17 and eden (reading spree, fuck yeah! ^^) over the weekend, so I haven't had any time to think on what to read next, left alone getting hyped for upcoming title.
    Ya all know the rules.
Please write one or two sentences about why do you picked what you picked. ;)

    1) Swan Song. Post apocalyptic, with interesting art, about psychological problems and very 'humane' characters? Sounds like my hype is aroung +3 to votes.
    2) Flowers. Innocent Grey. I absolutely love the art, love Kara no Shoujo, (hate Cartagra, but this writter is not working with them anymore) and there is a yuri melodrama with some mysteries in background? Hopefully melodrama will be reasonable, and not typical vn 'mumbojumbo' dramas (Hoshimemo, ugh). Yeah, pretty much hype level +3.
    3) Homeward. Because why not? I heard one route is depicting a horrible relationship, and this is something I've never seen in VN before. +1
    4) ef I just finished eden and while didn't liked some things I absolutely LOVED the atmosphere. Somehow hoping for more of similiar thing. +1
    5) Hanachirasu. Written by Muramasa writter short, action packed story about revenge in contemporary world with alternative history. Sounds awesome, but grades on vndb aren't as good. Hopefully quality wise Kikokugai levels or better. +2

It’s a very warm and welcoming color though, and we want new fans and customers to feel welcomed and comfortable shopping, especially knowing that there’s such a stigma against adult content in the West.

What a bunch of a-holes. :D Design of their site is the main reason I'm always hidding their page from anybody around me and when I'm recommending some VN to somebody I'm never linking to their page. It's horrible and humiliating to look at. :P

(I'm glad theire at least doing separate pages for their products like FataMorgana or KaraNoShoujo2, but when you click 'buy iy now'... Oh well.)

It's k, you're just at that age where you can't enjoy nice things in life as much anymore. It happens, sometimes I see people go into Steins;gate as their 50th VN, then they go 'wtf is this overhyped shit?! 2/10!!!!!'

Welcome to the land of old grumpy grumps ^_^

    ~~
You should definitely at least check out R11 though- I found it's narrative to be more entertaining than E17's

Are there any familiar faces in this club? :P And I'm only near 25yo, and it was my 51st VN! D: I'm not that old, aaaaaaa! (Also Steins;Gate is the best thing ever, pure 10/10. )
I will check R11, but not until I finished those few VN I already have on my disc. So, few months later. ;) Also I heard that plot 'wow's are similair to E17, so break might be good.

Speaking of VNs I have on my disc - Yesterday I made a 7 hours eden* reading session. I loved the 'military' part, I was affraid I will not like the 'countryside' part, but it was good, isntead of fluff it was somehow 'solemn'. Also - fantasitc, very fitting OST.
But then came Maya, with her annoying, 'quyirky' attitude and horrible BGM, and all of that positive, great mood turned into cesspool :sachi: Oh how I hate mood breaking characters (Kazuna in Cartagra). ;p
Hopefully final will be better, bacause I really want to grade this VN high, it deserve it. :P

  9. That's why new tweet from Novectacle s confusing.

Could somebody properly translate? Machine translators give strange results.

    EDIT:
    Okay, I translated this site:
    http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/367/1367621/
('Fatah Mole Ghana' is a pretty hilarious translation of game title xD)
And voice acting will be only in the completly new part of the story. I kinda dislike it, I don't want 'canon' voices for those characters.

  10. Ever 17. You route:

    Spoiler

I didn't finished Sara route yet, but I won't till like day after tomorrow[EDIT: God bless my manager at work - day off! ^^], so quick update on Yous'.

On 8/22/2016 at 10:10 AM, Eclipsed said:

Overall Kid x You is pretty meh, You had 300% more entertaining banter and dynamics with Takeshi imo.  Hell in general Takeshi >>> Kid so far.

Different strokes for different folks. :D Yous' route was a MASSIVE improvement over both Takeshi routes. You (energetic and funny girl) and Sara (intelligent and little sarcastic one) are also more likeable than Tsugumi (just a bitch) and Sora (bland empty AI. I couldn't look at her as a person at all. Maybe if I started with her and not Tsugumi... but the milk is spilled, nothing to do).

    Quote

Everything's been answered...for the characters. Readers will have to wait for True Ending. Oh well, least I got to see You with longer hair :kosame: Dat bowlcut don't do her no justice.

I'm ambigious on that troll ending. It would be better without that epilogue at all. But You with short hair>>>You with long hair. :P Somehow she looked younger with longer hair.

Only saving grace was that there was no chicken sandwich BSOD this time :makina:

Actually I'm kinda surprised by your reaction. For me it was pretty reasonable. Day fifth or sixth of being closed with bunch of weirdos in underwater, sinking facility, with a lots of water on the floors, nothing ever dries, no sign of incoming help, no communications with outside word, only thing to eat are the same sandwiches over and over... He just broke down. Understandable. Those sandwiches were just a spark to ignite his despair.

On 9/11/2016 at 6:39 PM, Eclipsed said:

best to save your breath until the very end though, cuz you're literally only getting a tiny piece of the puzzle with every route

That's... not true. Takeshi routes fails to even ask any questions. I don't expect revelations and answers in first routes of the game, but they failed to even lay any questions, to start any mysteries (maybe except for very late Himmel). But with You's route, there was a lot of. Lot of unanswered questions, lot's of interesting plot points, lots of mysteries I'm now dying to find out about. And a lot's of hints to answers as well, so I can came up with some sort of theory about what's happening. I love it. That's why You route is much much better than Takeshi routes. With mr T. NOTHING ever happens, with Kid there is a lot. Whole searching for access restricted data in LeMMIH was a great plot thread.
Then I looked up and found up the answer to a question 'why this feels familiar to me'. You route is written by Nakazawa Takumi, man behind I/O, which I love.

Hopefully Sara roue will be as good.

    Overall for now:
Graphics - 4/10 Nothing is good, but I like this You facial expression. She looks 'monkeyish', but nice.
Music - 5.5/10 It's... kinda okay. But it's badly getting old, just like Vangelis soundtrack to Blade Runner. Children of their respective eras, nothing timeless.
Characters - 6.5/10 I wrote about them higher.
Tsugumi route - 5.5/10 Boring, nothing happens, Tsugumi is a bitch.
Sora route - 6/10 Same as above, but Sora is better girl, I like interactions with her. Although

    Spoiler

possible sex with Tsugumi in this route was completly WTF and why this even happened.

You route - 8/10 Maybe a little too high, but much better protagonist (in first half), much better heroine, much better written, and much, much better story made this route fairly enjoyable.

PS - I remembered one more thing. Kid in You route. At the beginning he was smart and knowledgable. Answering all questions, knowing laws of physics, etc. But in the second part they're turned him into an idiot. Come on. Not knowing what a login/password security system is, or how dimensions works. That's like elementary school knowledge. But that's a problem of whole VN. Treats reader too much like an idiot. Every little 'science' bit is thoroughly explained, even if it's obvious. Steins;Gate and I/O with their mini-encyklopedias were much better. Story flows, and if you didn't know something you could just look it up.

And once again my 'quick update' is a two Word pages long magapost. See you all after Sara route. ;)

    Sara route:

    Spoiler

EDIT: I read through Sara route. It was like...2 hours of reading + skip. This VN is really, really short. 20-25 hours tops.

Anyway, her route. Different writter... and it feels. I liked the revelation they made in this route. But that backstory... This trope is beaten to death I hate it.

    Spoiler

Bullied little girl and her hero who is taking every punch and nnot telling anybody about it. Sigh.

    also whole sudden

    Spoiler

Oniichan, oniichan, oniichan and oniichan. FFS. She just couldn't stop using these words.

And the song, by god, the song. It wasn't awful, but I still didn't like it. But fact that this song sung by Sara wasn completly not skippable and I was forced to lsiten to whole lines of her singing was terrible. What was even more terrible is a fact, that this song was sung FOUR TIMES in a span od 20 minutes of reading. Who the hell though that this will be a good idea?

Also sound editing is terrible. Different loudness levels from the same one character in one conversation, one scene, a lot of background noises in whispered parts, etc. Hard to listen to with earphones.

The worst of the worst things was a scene right after the ending. I liked bad ending better because of this. This is why I'm saying that characters in VNs almost never acts like normal human beings, they're always exagerated, always hanging onto one stupid thing i ntheir live, unable to move on.

    Spoiler

Sara risked her life, and anybody elses, who obvoiusly would came back to search for her, by coming back for a small piece of mirror. 'Because it reminds me of how much you cared for me oniichan'. It was painfull to read. She deserved to die. And she did. I was glad.

Somehow it was 'rescued' from pits of cancerous-vn-tropes by good ending, but pain I felt will never be erased.

Okay. Off to late afternoon nap, coffe and time for True Route! I hope I will love it.

EDIT  3: Nobody answered? Ooh well. Time for true route then.

    True route:

    Spoiler

MAIN SPOILERS ALL OVER THE WAY.
    Positive things first.

    1) Takeshi was one hell of a handsome beast.
    2) I liked few revelations. Whole 'families' theme was nice. Also it made sense why Tsugumi was totall bitch in Kids routes.
    3) ... nothing else? Oh well.

    And then the rest.
    What a ride it was.
    1) Localisation. FFS I hate localisations. You is telling a story, I hear 'Urashima Taro', whos legend I know quite good from mangas and other VNs, but I read "Rip van Winkel" who is a character from John Irvings book, and whom I do not know at all, I had to google that. Ugh.

    2) Pacing. Was... no better than first 4 routes. Still a lot of boring, repetetive unnecessary shit. A lot of emphasize was on Coco character, which was understandable. Point is, Coco as a main focus point is just not working. From cute energetic kid (14yo my ass) she became annoyed spoiled brat. No, no brat. Bitch. I mean... She was calling Takeshi 'papa'. Cancerously annoying. She was calling Tsugumi 'mama', which was iritating. But when she acted 'play with me or else' she was frustrating. I mean - middle of the night, Takeshi is asleep and then she comes, pullig on his eyelids (!!!) and 'come on papa lets play some reterded shit'. That was incredible. What's even more incredible was that everybody was spoiling her even more, to the point when one day she was waking up her 'papa' by INJECTING MUSTARD INTO HIS NOSTRILS. Literally. yeah. Really 'cute', right? Of course Takeshi didn't mind, because VN logic.
She also had voice that was really annoying if listen to for a long time, but fortunatelly I'm too fast reader and her voice was cut off at the begining of her every sentence.

    3) Pacing part two - two protagonists. Good idea. But execution? That was horrible. Every single time when Kid or Takeshi was almost getting new piece of important knowledge, perspective was changing to other guy and some silly scene in his story. Like when Kid was getting knowledge who his father is, there was abrupt cut to Takeshi and Coco yelling 'papa'. I wanted to stay with Kid, to know his feelings, his reactions, but no. Lets watch Coco doing dumb shit. Cause it's fun, righ? Spoiler warning - no, it isn't.

    4) Facepalming. Three times. In no route before did I facepalming, but here I was doing it hard. Hardest, literally 30 second of facepalm was at the very ending. When the reason why this all was happening was revealing.

    Spoiler

Because stupid little girl went to search for her little stupid toy.

It was even worse than Sara coming back for a part of mirror in her route.

    5) Mumbo fuckin Jumbo. Oh god. Whole VN was establishing hard laws of actuall physics with addition of some sci fi theories. It was good. But then came true route and literally throw it all away. Amount of plot holes was unbelievably high. They even made a major mistake in their own theory of Blick Winkel. Maybe in japanesse it was properly, but in english version it was said, many times,

    Spoiler

that he is from 4th dimension.

Which is totally wrong, because it was said before that human beings

    Spoiler

are living in 4th dimensional spacetime, and to see that as a whole you must be dimension higher. So BW must have been from fifth dimension.

But who cares about logic and consistency, when we have...

    6) Magic, miracles and shit thrown in readers face.
      * Takeshi miracoulusly

    Spoiler

    bringed back to life

      * Takeshi with

    Spoiler

    rebuilded, autohealing organism

after few hours instead of 5 years
      *

    Spoiler

    robot

fucking dog swiming few times to the surface and back to the bottom of the ocean
      * water pressure? What's that? You were explaining that 5 times in every single route? Well fuck this we need Kid and robot dog to came unharmed to the

    Spoiler

    bottom of the ocean

, so shut your brain and enjoy our mumbo jumbo you smartass.
      * fucking Coco. What the hell?

    Spoiler

Appearing in 'Kids' timeline, while being asleep in cryochamber? Knowing much more about events occuring than she could? Wha?

    7) Blick Winkel.

    Spoiler

    4th (5th) dimensional

creepy stalker looking over little annoying girl her whole life. Lolicons. Japanesse trademark plot point.

    8) Epilogue on the boat. That was dragging as hell. So boring. And additional minus for not including both Takeshis sprites at the same time on screen. There was no interactions between them at all. Which was really suirprising, if you consider who they were to themselves. Also, Tsugumi+Sora additional epilogue. What the hell it even was?

    9) Main minus. Lack of explanation for most intersting things in previous routes. First - who the hell was kicking a can in tag game? Never even mentioned again. Second - life reading always saying '1' at the end of routes. Who it was? Why 1? Sensores wasn't counting even Himmel, let alone that bottom research facility, where

    Spoiler

researcher was dying and Coco was left behind.

Also - why 7? Why 6? Why this lifereading was so fucked up? Why was it so important to literally show it at the end of every single one ending?
Third and last - Coco. What was she? Why was she a

    Spoiler

    psychic?

    How does it work?

And there is my spreadsheet with grades for different parts.

    k8ScZNS.png

As you can clearly see I graded You and Sara routes higher than Coco. Why? Well, although few reveals was nice, nothing was mindblowing for me. I predicted

    Spoiler

    'two Yous'

    I predicted

    Spoiler

    using the cryochamber.

What I couldn't predict was out of nowhere

    Spoiler

    dimensional magic,

which was a disappointment rather than mindblowing experience (I had the same problem with ultra stupid plot twist in Sharin no Kuni). So - a lot of dissapointing explanations, a lot of mumbo jumbo, a lot of unrevealed plot holes, a lot of typical VN stupidity. You route have nothing of that and Sara route have only a little. Also You and Sara routes were asking the right questions, and living them without answers, which was leaving me craving for more. Positive emotion. And last thing - both You and especially Sara routes have really great reveals about some parts of the story. They were cohesive, fairly "realistic", believable and simply good. True route was not as good.

Also additional minus 0.3 points for a stucr\ture and its repetiteveness and abundance of skip function. From whole 25 hours of reading at least 4 was spent on skipping.

So, yeah. I'm not an E17 hater (like I hate Sharin, Grisaia and Cartagra), but I didn't liked it. My hype for R11 and Zero escape series was lowered really really hard. I will say more - my faith in VN quality levels dropped very much. I don't believe in anything now. well, maybe in Umineko somehow. But I'm very sceptic about Subahibi, Baldr Sky, R11, DI, Muramasa, or basically anything. If E17 have 8.7 on vndb and the most popular grade is 10, then I have no more faith in this grade system. Shame, cause right now I have nothing to came to, when looking for quality VNs.

Thank you for reading this, and you're very welcome to discuss.

  11. I'm grateful for people doing YT letsplays. I can always quickly calculate my reading speed to their reading speed and then I know how much longer do I have till next chapter, and can decide to read VN that evening or not. But watching VN on youtube seems like a terribly tedious labor.

    AAAAAANYWAYZ.
Since I'm here, I will make a quick update on my progress in Ever17. Is not a good VN. In any aspect at all.
I'm in the middle of my third route, Yous'.

I wrote a post about Tsugumi. Didn't wrote anything on bad end (I liked it), or on Sora route. Why? Because Sora route is non existent. Tsugumi took me around 6-7 hours. Sora - around 1,5-2. Why? Because most of the route is exact same thing. I just skipped almost all. It doesn't help in getting immerse at all.
Her new scenes were nice, I liked Sora, I liked her 'problem'. What I didn't like (in comparisson to Tsugumi scenes) is of how much a noble hero protag was here, and how much Tsugumi was a totall bitch. Punching in the gut out of sudden [three times!], without any words, right after guys made you a sandwich or helped with something you had to do? No explanation, no apologize? Yup, that's what I hate the most in vns. Here it was supposed (I think) to be 'quirky' and to make her look strange and cold. It wasn't. She was just bitchy. At least it wasn't done for comedy purposes. There is nothing worse than a character who is dealing a great physical pain to protag, and then after it was clear he was at right in that situation - 'it was your fault anyway' without any apologize. And it is supposed to make you laugh. Yup. I love them.

So, Sora is done, time for You.
Meh. Start was good, better than Takeshi routes, but it's almost exact same content, almost beat for beat. Of course perspective is changed, there is focus on different characters, but how many times I must read about the same blackout and how they deal with it? Or the same game of tag? That's... tedious. That's boring. This time I can't even ctrl skipping because different perspective = differently written text. Sometimes I even feel like my mind is somwhere else. I know what is going to happen in the scene, so my mind is escaping to something else, while my hand is fastly making progress through enter-clicking, barely recording any text through my eyes. Just enough to see if there is nothing surprising. Of course, when I snap out of it I must backlog whole parts. But that's like epitome of anti immersive storytelling. Completly put's me off. (I know, I know, "you're the one trapped in the infinity loop".)
Same thing with how many choices there are. And how often they are. I sometimes just read windowed (I have never, ever done that before [not counting skipping] in any VN) because constant alt-tabing is too much of a hussle.

And a last, but very important thing.
I know they're keeping the 'good bits' for final route, but if I wouldn't, I would be angered by this VN. Not even annoyed, angered. Why?

Beause there are few situations, moments, not whole scenes, just a little moments, which are great. Creepy, tense, scary even. I love them. Or I would love them If the vn would let me. But it's not. I will give exact example.

    Mild spoilers ahead.
Tag game. Everybody was captured. But. Can is kicked. Everybody runs. "Who kicked it? Probalby Tsugumi. She wasn't there, but maybe she was lurking in the shadows and kicked that can whilke we wasn't looking. That's fine."
Then Takeshi is capturing them again. And tells them those creepy words: "you know, than can wasn't kicked. It was at exact same point I left it." Yup. That's creepy. Cold sweat starting to appear down on my back. Sora is asking if it is posssible for can, to came back to the same position after a kick. Takeshi is explaining that it's not possible at all. Creepy.
And then... Same thing happens again. Tsugumi is not there, can is at the designated spot, nobody is looking at the can, but everybody is hearing the sound of kicked can rustling.* Cold sweat is literaly on my back, that's great, that's scary, that's tense, can't wait to read what happens next, who will be scared, how they will react...
Oh. I guess I'm silly. They just run off the room because somebody kicked a can and that's the rules. And now they're again playfully playing a game of tag. Oh. And then scene just ends and nobody mention it ever again. Okay. I would be scared shitless in their possition. But okay. The VN is clearly not wanting me to feel anything at all.

So yeah, that's all for now, see you after Saras' route, probably tomorrow (if You/Sara is the same as Tsugumi/Sora, so 90% is just skipping).

*[I know that cans don't 'rustle' but couldn't found a better word for it]

  12. @Chuee posted this on his twitter (I hope you'll not be mad, it's on your public account):

So I'm reviving this thread from the ashes of old fuwa. Anybody read both? Anybody can compare? Is GHS TL really just a  troll, or is it a genuine, but maybe a little 'over the top' translation?
From this example I would say GHS is massive improvement. The sentences made coherent sense, they're a result of preceding line, while in Ixrec every line is a thing of their own. Especially this sitting on floor part.

I want to read CC some day, so it would be nice to know which translation is superior.

  13. Well I just skipped thorugh 'common route' with Sora scenes (I'm right after the 'makeup' scene) and... I like it. I like new scenes and I like Sora. :P So hopefully next 2,5 hours I have left of her route will not be a drastically downgrade of enjoyableness.
And I hate Tsugumi even more, at last in her route there was no sudden, uncalled gutpunching.

  14. Ever17, route 1 - Tsugumi.

Whaaat a boring piece of shit.
5.5/10 would be sufficent grade. Nothing ever happened, and in few moments (because not even 'scenes') when something interesting was mentioned, like in a tag game when

    Spoiler

Kid was counting in other room, while being present here and now with other characters

it was abruptly cut and never mentioned again. Terrible writting. And that

    Spoiler

    deus ex machina, solving nothing

    ending? Laughable.
Tsugumi herself was an edgy, emo, horrible character. Not worst piece of shit ever, but it was painfull to interact with her. And although her 'problem' was interesting, it wasn't enough to emphasize with her enough to made up for her annoying quirks. But I loved when near the end protag finally

    Spoiler

slapped her in the face. So much win.

And protag himself? What a moron... At first I started reading Kid/You route (went as far as repairing reactor during blackout) and he was much much more smarter that Takeshi. All those stupidity around not understanding

    Spoiler

    what Sora is

made me cringe. I'm really affraid about Sora route.

But okay, next will be Sora route I still have hope that true route will be as great as everybody is saying it will be. But... I got spoiled. By creators themselves. After the route were the credits.

    Spoiler

Cast with voice actors. But Takeshi had a voice actor, but Kid didn't. What does it mean? That probably he has the same voice actor as Takeshi, and they're deeply connected. Maybe even some sort of the same person, but from different time, or somehting like that.

    So thanks for that... fuckers.

But despite that last thing and Tsugumis' character I'm not annoyed by this VN. It's boring but overall pleasant read. Well, maybe not 'pleasant' but it's not making me angry, it's not insulting me. Like f.e. Period did.

Next thing - I'm a little dissapointed by 'themes'

    Spoiler

all those viruses and diseases... Although it might be terryfying, I'm just not a fan of a genre.

Also - it have worst translation I ever seen. A lot of errors, mistakes in gramma, spelling or even translation errors like in 'turing test' -> 'tooling test'.

And last one minor thing - start of the routes are much stronger in Kid side. Everything is explained deeper, clearer and reading all those more advanced explanations in his routes after Takeshi routes and their shallow explanations is probably not a very good idea. But as you all said, the story and mysteries will probably flow better in Tsugumi->Sora->You->Sara order.

  15. I would say its not a horror at all.
It's just a dark story with really 'heavy' themes, as mentioned in Funyarinpas' spoiler.
But nothing really 'creepy', for me at last. It was dark, dense, intense, overwhelming with it's atmosphere - yes, but I was not scared even for a second. Also definitelly no jump scares, no scary imagery.

If you watch movies, probably Guillermo del Toros' Crimson Peak would be closest. Gothic, dark romance story in delicate 'horrorish' setting.

  16. I loved how my 'favouriteness' was constantly changing. First I loved Mel and adored WhiteHairedGirl, then I very much liked Merchant, then Maria was my favourite, then Giselle, then Morgana, then Michelle, then Morgana again and so on.
I love them all. Well, almost. I hated Nellie in first chapter and don't really have any fondness of Jacopo (ugh, why is he the one with 'romantic' connection to Morgana? :< They'll probably have their own story in fandisc, sigh... But maybe I will like him in that. Who knows, it's FataMorgana.)
But if I would must choose one character I would love to read more about I would pick Maria. She's just perfect mixture of crazy, assertive, strong and funny. No-nonsense, no airheadness, no politeness, just pure enjoyment. (Did I mentioned that I have  thing for short haired girls?  )

Also - I just got reminded by the characters section on vndb. Habi was completly omitted in Extras. :<

EDIT: While looking for this Marias' screen I randomly found this:

    Nice :D
