  1. IDK, i always found Noble Works and Dracu-Riot to be good "shut your brain off and have fun" kind of VNs. They certainly aren't 10/10 material, but i don't even think they are trying to be. They're just romantic comedies with dorky sexual humor and it's fine to me. For the answer, i guess Clannad is a moege so i'll go with Fate/Stay Night.
  2. I'll be the contrarian here and say Clannad. The sheer amount of routes and secret little things made it feel like more of a legit game and the After Story (normal route specifically) made the story go from ok to great, making it my favorite VN ever.
  3. Just for fun. My first five: - G Senjou no Maou (started in late 2010) - Fate/Stay Night (started in mid 2011) - Tsukihime (started in late 2011) - Kanon (started in early 2012) - Clannad (started in mid 2012) After that, my memory starts getting hazy because i would play stuff in-between my Clannad breaks. I think i played Go Go Nippon in late 2012 and Ever17 in mid 2013.
  4. Finishing all routes. If it is a single-route story with multiple endings, then i consider it finished upon doing the true end.
  5. Finished VA-11 HALL-A. It was good for what it was and it felt like a Snatcher side-story of sorts. Definitely one of my top OELVNs (can't say the same for overall VNs, though). BTW, i just realized that my whole top 5 OELVNs has lesbians in them. Westerners sure love their lesbians.
  6. The only VN i've seen that has something remotely like that was Tokimeki Memorial 2, and it was not straightforward at all.
  7. Did all the endings of Banshee's Last Cry and even though i thought some of the parody endings went on for a bit too long, i was surprised by how good it was. Has anyone played the sequel (Kamaitachi no Yoru 2) to give an idea of how good it is? I skimmed through a japanese playthrough of it and it looks like one the craziest VNs ever.
  8. Still not it, i'm giving a tip then:
  9. Nope, it's actually a bit more famous. That's Clannad, i remember Kyou doing that.
  10. Ever17 Never played it, but Galaxy Angel?
  11. Tokyo Babel? 2. If my heart had wings? 3. Katawa Shoujo?
  12. Probably not right, but it makes me think of Steins;Gate for some reason. Group rehab goes horribly wrong.
  13. https://vndb.org/v19314 "Sit", she commanded, but the large dog just stared at Madoka. It made her feel uncomfortable, but things couldn't be helped. The situation was what it was. Later she fell asleep on the sofa, and felt a loving tongue that made her cum in her dream. That was when their relationship became deep... deeply lewd. Gulliver had a plan. He was going to make this girl his lover. Little by little, Madoka was seduced into a rutting "bitch" by the very dog she was taking care of.
  14. ^ Well, i went after the VNs that i felt made people go "there's this whole genre? let me try it" and made the VN community bigger, so that's why i went after the most popular ones. If i were trying to be western-centric, Katawa Shoujo would definitely be there, even though it's not that special of a VN either. I most certainly went for drawing power over gameplay and storytelling foundations, because i think that if no game on the genre became popular enough, there would not be enough of a community to cross-over to the west.
  15. Hmm, Higurashi is kind of a weird case, because it's not as lacking in visuals as the Chunsoft sound novels and has more focus on female characters. Then again, you can always replace it with Clannad or School Days.
  16. Which would you consider the 4 most important (not best or favorite) VNs of all time? Trying to be objective and japanese-centric based on what i've heard about the history of VNs my choices would be: YU-NO: Helped define a VN as it's own genre, by combining adventure game and dating sim elements. To Heart: Had one of its' songs make it to japanese radio and likely started the "top eroge songs" trend that is on the japanese VN community to this day. Kanon: Became so famous that it pretty much jumpstarted the VN community by itself. Higurashi: Was the first VN to reach big mainstream appeal beyond the VN genre (Clannad, School Days, Steins Gate and Fate Stay Night followed after).
  17. It has been a long time since i've played it, but i'm pretty sure you can only get him on your second playthrough.
  18. For all of these, the motive came down to "felt like i did enough/didn't feel like doing more" Amagami: Did half the routes. Every single Tokimeki Memorial game: Did anywhere from 1 to 5 routes. Amaranto: Did half the routes, story was pretty meh. Big Bang Age: Only did Kunagi's route. Fate/Extra CCC: Only did Gilgamesh normal route. In Your Arms Tonight: Only did the MC's boss and story was super cheesy, so i said "screw it". Demonbane: Only did Al Azif's route.
  19. 1.Never played SubaHibi, but i'm pretty sure Rose Guns Days has more action, so you might like that more. 2.Still worth playing, but knowing who dies beforehand does diminish the enjoyment of it. 3.Never played Baldr series, but from what i've heard Force is as good as Sky and Zero is a bit inferior. 5.Maybe Little Busters overall, but the Summer Route from Air specifically might be the most to your liking.
  20. It's quite disturbing that the Ikuza Megami Zero "translation" is not bothering me at all. I guess that original Clannad fantranslation had an effect on me.
  21. Between all my breaks it took me nearly 2 years to finish it. Started in late 2012 and ended in mid 2014.
  22. About the entry barrier, since i was a pre-teen when i first got interested in VNs (and i thought VNs = eroge with a few exceptions), the existence of H-scenes made me scared to try out the genre for 2 whole years. What made me say "fuck it" and try G-Senjou no Maou was Asceais's Top 100 list, because it made me see how much stuff i was missing.
  23. Have you seen the optional joke baseball ending though? That would make you even more of an elite.
