  1. Absolutely agree. This plot device was funny 15 years ago but it's really tired these days. It's so refreshing to see the girl turn to the guy and say "it's quite okay, don't apologise" and for the misunderstanding to be swept under the carpet and the relationship to actually progress and leave that nonsense misunderstanding as a very temporary set back instead of being the premise for another 50 episodes of blue balls (see Rakudai no kishi for how to do this right).
  2. I've decided at last what anime plot device annoys me more than anything ever conceived. Since I'm a huge romantic comedy/drama fan, the most annoying plot device of all time is the character, be it hero, heroine or side-kick, that mumbles under their breath something that amounts to a love confession that the other person doesn't hear and when asked about it says 何でもない "Don't worry about it" or, "no, it's nothing"... and then 450 thousand episodes later still is unable to actually convey said emotion. Anyone else want to describe their pet peeves in anime?
  3. Just started Sugar+Spice2. Finished Sugar+Spice and partyparty ages ago but got sidetracked by other VNs. Hoping for as enjoyable an experience with 2 as 1. Also gives me an excuse to bump this thread and keep it alive.
  4. Definitely inside, but MUST see the outside as well if the option is given, after being satisfied by the former. The former is for okazu the latter for completeness.
  5. Taste is very much in the eye of the beholder. To heart 2 - 9 romantic routes of the usual high school duration (2-3 months). All routes contain very different girls, though "conquering" is rather straight forward, but the protagonist behaves slightly differently to suit each route. Each route only has one (long) H scene close to the end.
  6. Yeah and not only do they feel the urge to add extra H scenes, they go out of their way to try and 'spice things up' for no sensible reason quite early on in a relationship. Suddenly it's huge sex toys or exhibitionism or humiliation on a dog lead or whatever else.
  7. Plenty of ones I agree with already mentioned. In addition - I can't stand when a beautifully executed romance and touching sex scene then deteriorates into doing it in public places.
  8. Of the new shows this season, I've rounded it down to the following 4 as the best watches: Dimension W and Boku dake ga Inai Machi for more serious Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo and Musaigen no Phantom World for light hearted I'm watching lots more for now, but they're the ones I rate at the top.
  9. Every volume of semen is more on successive ejaculations.
  10. Pink hair. Red eyes. But then, that's not really "secretly love"... It's blatantly obvious.
  11. As per every season, I'm watching most shows for now till I drop the more boring ones. My conclusion? This season's a stinker for new shows. Dimension W is the most promising though there's probably half a dozen other shows I'll end up watching to the end which will end up being only ok overall. The best shows currently airing are all continuations of previous seasons (heavy object, gate and assassination classroom).
  12. 奮発して would be 'splurged' when buying something.
  13. I loathe sport anime and can't stand baseball. Yet both my wife and I were absolutely glued to this series for all 50 episodes. We hadn't even finished the series and my wife turned to me during one of the later episodes and asked if we could watch it again from the start as soon as we finished it. Everyone at some stage should watch this series. It is so easy to watch and heart warming.
  14. I agree with a lot, if not all of your suggestions. However, I don't know if you haven't seen these or didn't like them, but the following additions are musts in the complete romance (as primary or secondary theme) anime world IMO: Cross Game Nagi No Asukara Planetes Lovely Complex Golden Time These all pass the test of "my wife liked them too". I can't stand shows that are stuck in a time warp with no ending or ones where the ending is ultimately unsatisfying. There really is nothing wrong with a happy ending.
  15. To Heart 2. High school, romance, 9 routes, 11 girls.
  16. Thanks! I'll have a play with them. My theme was set to temporal - by the way I'm on a 4k monitor with 140dpi scaling so perhaps the issue only shows up because of the massive scaling going on at that resolution, though other sites never have this problem (and my hardware is ridiculously OP so it's not a hardware issue). Problem solved, FuwaFabulous was fine, thanks!
  17. I've got truckloads of computing and GPU power yet the theme is painfully slow scrolling since the backup/restore. I can't really find a way to more or less simplify or disable the theme in any meaningful way to speed it up. Is there something I'm missing or a way to give it a very simple theme? Thanks.
  18. Same. True Love 95 I played 20 years ago and while it's pretty modest by today's VN standards, it still had a magic, since it was a true dating sim, not just a VN, that today's VN's often don't quite match. After playing it I fell for the genre and haven't been able to stop playing VNs since.
  19. To Heart 2. It inspired a generation of games in its wake. (That and I spent almost 7 years of my life translating it).
  20. Thanks for your thought out response. I wasn't after explanations by the way so you missed the point of my post. I was trying to point out that things were too convenient and even for a fantasy/sci flic I was unable to suspend disbelief enough for those convenient plot devices to be convincing.
  21. I think you should look back on what you all wrote and see how it comes across - there's a lot of "it was so good, but..." I saw the movie and didn't find it offensive but by no means was it a great movie. I was torn by it since I grew up with the originals, then was betrayed by the prequels, and had no expectations from this one. I struggled because I was moved by some scenes, excited by other scenes, yet yawning and cringing at other times. That said I didn't find it unpleasant to watch overall and greatly enjoyed the bulk of the action scenes and the pace of the movie... but the writing was rather poor, and you've all alluded to it without actually being conscious of it. The plot devices were convenient contrivances that really didn't make much sense and couldn't be explained away with coincidence and the force. Why on earth would Rey be so powerful so quickly when not even aware of her powers prior to it compared to a trained -something-. Why was she such a good pilot that could fly anything? Why was she instantly good enough to fend off a light saber battle from a trained expert? Why would R2D2 go to idle mode and then conveniently wake up without Luke really being any closer. How did the pilot manage to get back to the rebellion -his character wasn't developed anywhere near enough for us to feel any connection with him. How would he know how to fly anything including a Tie fighter? Why did the rebellion just happen to also be the planet Han took them to and conveniently came to save them without any forebearing and conveniently had the light saber. Carrie Fisher's acting was really weak and unconvincing - she has almost no on-screen presence with a voice that has no authority for someone that's meant to be a general and barely any emotion comes through. Why did she hug Rey so warmly when Rey returned when she didn't even know her - I guess she sensed that Rey observed Han's death but what would Leia mean to Rey? The jokes done with the old characters are pretty flat and borderline cringeworthy. Han Solo's son actor was a dweeb with no real impact and wildly unconvincing as somewhere between a super powerful force wielder and wimpy emo teenager at the same time. The bad leader looked like Voldemort again (so many bad guys look like him lately). How did the first order get so powerful so quickly when the empire was totally obliterated? How could they not piece together from that much map where in the universe that portion of the map came from, and why did it even need lines connecting its path to wherever he went. Where'd the map even come from and why was it even made? How did the first order happen to allegedly have the other pieces of the map and then we find R2D2 has the rest too. Are we meant to believe that Han made the ultimate sacrifice to effectively do what he had to do to save his son somehow - I'm sure that's how they'll explain it but it's basically unnecessary as far as I can see. What happened to all the stormtroopers being clones (someone explained that this wasn't the case after the clone wars but that's not in the movie universe as far as I remember). The redheaded bad guy was almost comically bad in his acting looking like something between the comical starship troopers and Hitler. I could go on, but suffice to say this old man wasn't really blown away by the poor writing tying things together. It just felt like a fanflic with an unlimited budget. Ironically, the story paying homage to the original star wars 4 didn't bother me one bit as I saw that as intentional canon and they made no effort to disguise it.
  22. Sounds like you need to give up while you're ahead then since whatever it is that you hate about this VN is not going to go away no matter what route you choose. With 9 routes, most people have 2 or 3 that don't appeal to them for some reason (even me) and find varying appeal in the rest but this is clearly not your genre. This game is so old that To Heart 2 virtually defined the genre of extreme nice guy donkan protagonist and that doesn't go away no matter which route you choose.
  23. This. The end of season 1 (? unknown if there's going to be an S2) did not disappoint. 100% for this show. It's making it hard to watch the other trope shows and what they have been doing to romance for a decade.
