Rewatching Kanon2006 with my wife. I haven't rewatched it since it aired over 10 years ago (2006 duh.) It still stands up very well. Sure there are convenient and obvious plot points and devices but most of them work and the characters and story development are great. Funnily enough those plot devices were very original and did not feel forced in 2006 whereas now, everyone's done the same thing since then. Someone had to do these things the first time around, and I'm a sucker for the original execution of what becomes a classic trope. Only the eyes are overdone, but otherwise it still looks great too.

Without anything romance to watch, I used Da Capo Second Season to fill in the time. It was about as lacklustre as the first season but I watched this one sped up 10% and it was more tolerable and a fair filler. Watched Steins;Gate in the interim since it has a tinge of romance. Much better series but hardly a strong romantic bent. Now watching Space Battleship Yamato 2199 for much the same reason. I'm still looking for recommendations for good rom &/or coms (from the past) and until something decent comes up the next filler will be more seasons of Da Capo... maybe I'll watch them at even higher speed and turn them into action series or inadvertent comedies.

Thanks, you've helped confirm my fears with this show. It sounds far too painful so I'll be switching off to avoid suffering this (I've already switched off Fuckyou AKA Fuuka.) EDIT: Demi-chan remains awesome. It's easily my pick of the bunch for this season, even more so than konosuba2.

Better make another post: The problem persists after all even with that disabled... As I said in my first post it happened before, it only got worse with the site image proxy enabled. Maybe my browser has those pages cached and thinks there are no images there now, but I tried a full reload and they're still not showing up. It's also random as to which pictures don't show up; on a reload it's different pics the next time around...

I've always had this as a minor issue but with recent changes to the website that seem to use an image proxy it's much more of a problem that embedded pictures simply never load. The more pictures there are on a page the worse it gets. The post pictures you like thread is the worst example of it. See the screenshot below for what I end up seeing instead of the embedded pictures. Refreshing sometimes brings up the lost pictures but then it ends up making other pictures disappear. I'm currently using Firefox 50.1.0 without any blocking extensions or anything like that.

No, this is not something where explaining the appeal will help you or prove you "wrong". The reason is it should either work for you or it doesn't, and clearly doesn't. I simply adored the interplay between the teacher and the monster girls but expecting you to like it because I explain what I liked about it to you is futile. I hate lots of shows other people like too. At least you have checked it out now.

Finally finished Steins; Gate. It was indeed very good, but I wouldn't rate it a masterpiece as others have. Certainly is a must watch series though (especially since I never had the patience to play the VN, maybe if it had H I would have...) Moving along, time to start Space Battleship Yamato 2199 which I've heard good things about, plus if I like it enough I'll be prepared for the sequel coming up.

I just saw the first episode of demi-chan wa kataritai AKA Interviews with Monster Girls... and it was so goddamn cute and enjoyable I was taken aback. I hope it can keep this up because it's the best thing new so far in ages IMO. It's awesome.

Yeah it's really weird I expected Youjo senki to be trash because of its premise yet I really enjoyed the first episode. The action looks great.

Fuuka is going to be the most depressing anime of the year. Watched the first episode to get an idea of what it will be like, and I actually didn't find the execution interesting nor original already which is fortuitous since I can't stand depressing mind fucks. I've already dropped it since I have close to zero tolerance for sad thematic material. Real spoilers:

Probably need some spoiler tags there man... I thoroughly enjoyed Momokuri too but I was the opposite with LC; I loved everything about Lovely Complex, even when it got relatively serious. It was not perfect by any stretch but a perfect romantic comedy is almost impossible it seems and this was one of the best ever (for me.)

Comedy's like that far more than any genre. It either gels for you or it doesn't. I'm annoyed that I don't find more shows funny myself since there's nothing I like more than a good laugh. People scream with laughter at stuff like shimoneta, sakamoto, mob psycho, one punch man... and all of those shows annoyed the shit out of me all for similar reasons - if the main premise annoys you rather than amuses you then you're screwed like me (Note I liked konosuba for reference but I don't think any less of you for it not working for you.)

Probably the best way to watch it is to watch only the original series without the season 2 garbage interspersed amongst it, and in broadcast order, not in chronological order. The broadcast order had far more impact than when I tried to rewatch it in chronological order. On the other hand, it unfortunately has dated quite a bit and no longer feels like the masterpiece I once thought it was. A lot of what it does was very original back then but the execution is kind of annoying by today's standards.

Interestingly enough that doesn't appear to be a problem in Japanese where an attempt is always made to do a faithful rendition of what the diction sounds like when orally stuffed. It is also almost always understandable too... but that's probably because Japanese is such a bastard of a language that you end up relying on all sorts of cues to understand it even when it is clearly rendered. What I have seen on occasion is do the rendition in cock-speak and then explain it in parentheses, which could work quite well in English; doing so is also quite amusing.

Sorry, that's how people around me speak though... Not sure why writing needs to make people who speak sound like they're all writers. It's one of my big bugbears - that people complain about the spoken word by characters not being correct grammar or that it sounds horrible.

I really enjoyed that as well. Make sure to watch the BD version too instead of the heavily censored TV broadcast material.

The vast majority of us are not suited to polygamy, especially not the females of the species but even to a large extent, neither are the males. I think what's missing is understanding that humans as a species are best designated as being predominantly serial monogamist. Romanticising polygay usually happens by those (males) who have never been in a series relationship. Whilst casual sex is not uncommon when not in a relationship, most people do not feel inclined to do so once in a ~monogamous relationship.

While there definitely is scope for stories with catgirls that simply physically have cat features but are otherwise human in cognition and self-awareness, I have absolutely no problem with catgirls that have retained some of the cognition and features of cats in addition to their human traits, preferring to be pet and 可愛がってる the same was as cats and so on. That's part of their appeal in addition to having the sexual attraction of humans otherwise; that you want to pet them as well as mating them.
