Seeing you liked Corpse Party and DanganRonpa, you might like Kara no Shoujo - probably the best macabre thriller VN out there, at least from the translated ones. There's nothing else quite like it - it's dark, serious, the protagonist isn't a high-schooler and it has interactive crime investigations that really require you to think; definitely don't expect anything as easy as DanganRonpa, there's no hand-leading in Kara no Shoujo at all, only punishing (and awesome) bad ends. Such wisdom! Makina is becoming my guru more and more. Makina is such a good character that I even enjoyed her h-scenes because of how hilarious they were, and I almost never enjoy h-scenes. EDIT: Since I'm back on the dorms now, I'm not really risking Chinami's route anymore, I don't want to run into any accidental h-content in the worst times. To be fair, though, her husband is only mentioned in text, and doesn't even have his own sprite. I was also assuming that the route would have already existed, and was just speculating on how it would happen. I'm also waiting for my coffee to kick in. It can't be that difficult to read and skip the h-scenes as they come. BTW, I fully support general Spare ribs... fuck fish, BBQ is the best anyone else wished for Mayaka Hisakaki route in hoshizora? Also, damn, it's porn, what do you have for a roommate? a monk or a grill? just say what it is and that would end there, it's not like your roommante doesn't know you like manga and anime. shino route, that be interesting too; what were THEY THINKING not including those routes Shino route would be the sweetest over the sweet route, it could even compare to Kosame's route in that sense. Also, the whole background they did for her was awesome and developed enough compared to other secondary chars like Mayaka and the teacher. My tolerance for this thing is pretty high, then again my favorite book genre is fantasy lol. (That said, there's one place where I /do/ think it's legitimately stupid: Kud's route in LB. Feels like lazy writer syndrome...) I personally felt a lot of empathy for Isuzu, and her dere mode was hilariously heart-melting. Plus, I found her at least somewhat funny. As for "boo hoo I have to move," remember that she had to switch both cultures and languages. If you're not particularly good at making friends, which at least seems to be her case, you might well end up like she did. Does this fully justify the storyline? ...I don't know, this is just my mental reasoning to make the story make sense...That said her route is a bit weak, so meh. Still think Yume's route is the best one in the vn. Partly because of the supernatural reveals that turn othersoff, partly because Yume is best girl. Van Bruce Posted February 17, 2014 Share Posted February 17, 2014 There is a difference bettwen wittily and amusingly constructed fantasy and/or SciFi and just piled up theories one over the other fantasy and/or SciFi. Into the VNs field: Take Steins;Gate for example in the Sci/Fi section, even if a lot of the theories presented to explain the whole time travel stuff have loopholes and such it's constructed in such an interesting and original way that it ends being stimulating. In Saya no Uta in the fantasy field, you've got lots of unexplained stuff but they are amusing and serve a lot to build this horror and suspense atmosphere. As Stephen King said: the real horror lies into the unknown. I'm a fan of the fantasy genre myself, having read Tolkien's works completely and lots of other authors who I won't mention to make this short. Now unto Hoshizora, the VN could have really become something pleasant to read if they have stayed on the fantasy/traditional japanese mithology completely. Why? because it served a lot to the whole love and romance atmosphere the VN tries to deliver. When they started delivering such stravagant scifi theories, the whole fabric ruptured in 2 different atmospheres that were almost completely opposite (romance and scifi). It was like trying to appeal to both sides of the brain at the same time when the scenario writer clearly didn't have the skill to do it. In the end, the atmosphere was ruined and never recovered. Plus a lot of Deus Ex Machina were shoved to my face, specially in Yume's route. Now, if only both sides of the story were delivered in an interesting way that would redeem the VN a bit but, while the romantic side of the story certainly was a 8/10, the SciFi was built with so much pretentious theories and rockambolesques relations bettwen then that in the end I'd only put it a 3/10. PD: Grisaia beach scene ahoy! *drools* PPD: Damn, why they didn't put a voice to Yuuji? Grisaia would be SO MUCH BETTER with a voiced protagonist... I thought it was funny how it's You that hurts himself to get Kosame's attention instead of the other way around, since there's a lot of crappy teen romance novels where the inverse happens. I was almost sure that You died at the end, but I was glad when I found out that I was wrong. That would have been too sad... Aaaand on to Isuzu's route. Yay. I already know why she's so bitchy, and I'm not really into her character, so there isn't much of a reason for me to actually play through it. I feel slightly guilty, but, meh...not worth it. Also, I stopped at the part where Isuzu blames Chinami for her telescope breaking, and just that scene made me even less likely to play through her route in the future. God, that was just too mean. I also saw the part with Ren, so I didn't really miss that much. On to Chinami. I'll actually play through her route, since even though she's annoying, I like her character. There's a patch for EX, but that basically converts it to the all-ages version, with the exception that you can access H-scenes from the extras menu. It was just awful. Chinami herself wasn't even the focus for half of the route. In all honesty, it wasn't even a route at all! It was just thrown in as a trick to let people who enjoy half-family incest h-scenes get their kicks; it doesn't have the right to even be called Chinami's route. Call it the family route instead. This character disappointed me in so many ways, just like Mio is a disappointment to solidbatman. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one.
