Yes, nobody is stopping you but they are showing to you, by cutting the incomes you receive from your videos, that they are not ok with the content you are showing or speaking of, you might like it or not but is a way to persuade users to not use their platform for those purposes only. You can certainly go to a park and do a public speech of those topics or do whatever you want nobody is forcing you to use youtube but don't forget that most of these guys live from this, it's their only income, it might be an stupid decision to base your only income in some platform that can decide from one day to another what you can or cannot do that's the scary thing of internet but that's not the point. So in the end they are trying to persuade users to change what they speak about or what content they release in their videos. He, I'm pretty...paranoid so I don't want to give my opinion about this xD

It's just a way they use to "discourage" users to not speak of certain topics that might be controversial or just offend certain groups of society. They're as wide as possible regarding what kind of content can be considered “not advertiser-friendly”, pretty much everything they want can be subsumed into the category of "Controversial or sensitive subjects and events" The answer to this could be, "well don't use youtube if you don't agree wiht their TOS" but that's a really conformist point of view to this whole issue which I think is much deeper... giving a vn that last more than 30 hours to a person that is just starting is not a good idea imo, specially not >100 like clannad I think Katawa Shoujo is still the perfect vn to this day. But if you insist this is my list: In the very short range: dustmania this one will "blown" everyones brains out (literally) To replace g-senjou what better visual novel other than one of the first vns written by looseboy: A profile ? Nothing stands out better than this, purest of his work Finally for those casuals but who still are eager to play something amazing yet not really long, with some amazing story and a little bit of action: sakura dungeon ............................................................................................................................. For the short length VNs: True Remembrance, sweet story, no eroge at all, same applies to one thousand lies and both of them are free. Narcissu: to introduce them into the utsuge genre Saya no uta: I don't have to say anything about this one (the content in this one might turn some readers away) Lucy - Geunyeoga Baladeon Geos -, short and with some sci-fi elements, no eroge. Fata morgana, agree with this one. Finally this one is amazing in every single aspect, the only downside is the "hard" content (shouldnt be a problem for any vn fan and it would also introduce them into what vns might bring them in the future ): Swan song

Well I started learning Japanese just to read VNs and then at some point it kinda became like a personal goal. If you really enjoy doing something you don't see it as a tedious task, like you said, once it became a hobby is just a fun thing to do, for instance like it would be learning to play an instrument, it takes a lot of time and effort but people don't feel or see it that way, learning is also part of the process and they are having fun while doing it. The same thing applies to learning a language not just Japanese.

You were the one that stated that you need a minimum quota to be called censorship not me. Yes I did say that gaming industry trends to what society wants because of political sensibilities reasons and this generates leads to cases of censorship. And we are still talking about the meaning of censorship and if changing a character or anything else in a game (forcing the developer to do so for political sensibilities) is consider censorship, which has nothing to do with trend or minimum quota, your reasoning is a fallacy.

Well if you want to believe that the changes are made for financial reasons specially with all the changes that society is going through in the last years then go ahead, I believe that that thinking is naive, also you don't need to have several cases to be censorship, you can have just one and will still be that, is not like you need a minimum quota to be filled so you can start saying that it's censorship. I never said anything about the movie itself, my example was about how the media can be a way of censorship on itself.

You don't need to point a gun to someone to force them to do something, money is a good way to force them (the main way this days), speak bad in the media, remove your support, etc. See how they attacked the guy from AVGN after his "review" of the new ghost buster movies because of the female characters, the words misogynist, sexist, among others was all over the internet, that has a cost which leads to censorship, the main objective (this is just a silly example on how to "force" someone)

I think your definition of censorship is a bit wrong then but hey you are entitle to have it. EDIT: Well not the definition itself but the understanding of it, the definition and the meaning is one and it wont change even if you want to give it another meaning, like you're doing.

We are talking about a product that was already made and changed later on, how can you explain that it's a budget reason to actually spend more money to change it? I'm not talking about changes that are purely made because of budget reasons or inconsistency in their plot, etc. It's about saying I want my main character to look like "A" but someone tells you "well you better make it look like "B" " or some people are going to complain and give you a really hard time if you do that, actually you might lose money, screw your company name because of it.", that's censorship or if you want to call it self-censorship. EDIT: Let's see this example: the developer wants to release a game with a male main character but the publisher forced them to make it female I mean they say if you don't make the main character a woman we are not publishing you, is that censorship to you or not? <--- this is the new trend in gaming industry. It should be called censorship, why is the "self" there? It doesn't matter the context or if it's a game, book, movie, etc. If you can't do what you want and have to change it because someone else is forcing you then that's censorship. This is like asking if censorship is censorship It all comes down to the question of why would a creator of "X" product change his own product? There are a few possibles explanations: At that time his/her believes were in some way and over the time they change thus it reflects them into their product, this is not censorship. (Creating a character, realizing it looks stupid and then changing it) He wants to release it in another country and needs to abide to those countries "society" rules what sanah calls "political sensibilities", this is censorship and how do you know? If his product is still "A" in his country but "B" in the other one.
