  1. We use a custom framework for extraction/insertion. Here is a PoC for your initial acceptance test. Please replace data6.pack with it and try. It contains only 1 changed line near the beginning. Currently we have not obtained the game yet so we cannot test, but have confidence that it will work. There is a total of 60334 lines containing Japanese characters, not all of which need translated. We will give you more details about the process after your decide whether our service is acceptable and to go forward.
  2. Have you tried asking for assistance from fansubbing groups? They'll have everything you need to get good subs...
  3. Provide key.fkey in DLL subdirectory and we can produce a patch.
  4. Do you happen to have a joystick plugged in?
  5. Send the main executable and a small sample datafile our way... we might've seen this one before. Can't guarantee anything but we can take a look. Ask about our other services too.
  6. 50%? Is that the total CPU usage or just 50% of one core? On a dual-core system 50% total could mean a single core is at full load. A quad will only show 25% in that case. (Post a screenshot if you're not sure how to interpret the statistics.) Also notice that you'll have to look at the stats while it's lagging.
  7. First figure out where the bottleneck is. It could be CPU, HDD/RAM, or GPU. While it's lagging open Task Manager and see if the CPU usage is at 100%. If you have a multicore CPU, see if any single core is at 100%. If it's the game's process that's doing it, then you've found the issue and there might not be much you can do other than upgrade or check graphics settings (see below) to use GPU accel instead of software rendering. Look at memory usage - you may be running out if it's near the top --- you can try closing other running applications to resolve this. A single VN usually doesn't require that much but if you have many other processes they'll also consume memory and the total might not leave enough left over. Finally, if the HDD activity light is constantly on then the bottleneck is there; it must be said that you shouldn't expect great performance if you're also copying around large files, torrents, etc. and trying to run the game at the same time. (An SSD may help in that case, although still not a panacea.) If memory AND HDD are bottlenecking but the CPU isn't doing much then you're probably running out of memory and the system is swapping heavily. Try to stay below that load level. The only other thing left to consider is the GPU, although highly unlikely; you could try switching to software rendering if the game has the option to do that and the CPU usage isn't high. If it has DirectX/OpenGL/etc. you can try the different graphics options.
  8. Not all of them have choices, however. It's a mix between reading a novel, watching a narrated slideshow, and (if there are choices) playing a game. If you want a single line for a website introduction or something like that, consider "Interactive Low-Speed Multimedia Entertainment"...
  9. The question that follows from that is, do you intend to make some of them less dead? You should not just be a consumer, start producing too. :)/>

  11. Exactly. Aaeru is probably known too well at this point, however. That's what the Shanzhai movement is all about: be agile enough to skirt around the big companies, and meanwhile, produce produce produce. No waiting for approvals/agreements/whatnot; just get product to market as soon as possible. The amount of individuals who will do nontrivial work for free is increasing. Aaeru is(was) doing this translation for free, and the fact that some company wants her to stop just so they might be able to make a profit from doing the same work is likely what's causing all this commotion. This old business model needs to change, and while companies can continue trying to brainwash consumers into following them, we can only hope this "tyranny of IP" won't last forever as content creation becomes more accessible and the consumers become producer-sharers.
  12. Certain projects on Kickstarter have received levels of funding to that extent so I agree there. But legal issues and "red tape" are going to be the biggest barriers to this happening.
  13. Unfortunately not in the immediate future. (Have not asked - yet - if she'd like help, nor if anyone else is interested.)
  14. Rule of thumb is that consumer hard drives usually have a lifespan of 3-5 years. It's good that your most important files are safe, but maybe you should add "files that will take a long time to reacquire" to that category too and store a copy somewhere else; storage is cheap enough these days to mirror everything. "If it's not backed up, it's not data you want to keep." Data recovery services exist but they are bloody expensive. VN translators: your work is important too, if for no other reason than the time it takes. Systems like VNR and RWI help mitigate that risk by storing the data for you. "Translator lost all his work" should no longer be a reason for a project to end.
  15. You could say that your head has been through a lot of chaos...
  16. You have most likely not installed the font. Download the font here and install it. Also ensure that you have installed the latest version of the patch, build 1152. Full installation instructions are here: http://flyabletrans.byethost32.com/fhtrans.HTM
  17. The published hashes are for the unpatched version. Patching necessarily changes the files so what you are seeing is normal.
  18. Our RWI solution also allows for online collaboration, since translators and editors can see the changes others have submitted immediately (up to the granularity of the submission, <= 100 lines usually). Although we haven't much time recently to develop it further, this is where we see things going. It's not as open a system as VNR, but also not as closed as the more traditional, mostly working-in-isolation of before.
  19. Apparently it causes annoying popups for those who don't have it and don't want it... might want to poll first. It's also a possible security issue since it requires remote access to the forum database. Also related: http://xkcd.com/1174/
  20. By any chance is it this http://www.mpi-inf.mpg.de/resources/pfstools/pfs_format_spec.pdf ? Or is it a proprietary format for some VN engine? You may want to provide more details, via PM if you prefer.
  21. 1M visits/month? That's quite an ambitious growth plan. Being closer to the US might make DMCA issues more problematic.
