Momoiro Closet (new Frontwing game) Kickstarter is up
bakauchuujin replied to Fred the Barber's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I can't really think of many officially translated Eroge that focus on otaku culture. The only one I can really think of atm is wagamama high spec. There is also Eroge Sex and Games Makes Sexy Games, but that only focus on eroge, not on the otaku culture as a whole. -
I don't really see anything new that seems interesting for this season. Everything interesting seems to be sequals, not that it is bad to have sequals of good series but it is always nice to have something new.

I think one thing to consider is what best suits VNs. Some stories works best as books, some as live action films, some as manga, some as anime and some as VNs. I think we should consider the strenght of the medium. For instance Harem VNs make a lot of sence. Because still images are used they can focus a lot on making individual CGs as well as sprites that look great, which results in the girls looking cute. There is also the fact that VNs lets you choose, which can be used to have muliple routes each feauturing a different heroine. This is something manga and anime for instance can't do that well. Also in regards to pornographic content there is also the fact that no other medium seems to be able to handle it the same way a VN does. For example eroanime generally looks like crap due to low budget, they also generally feature little to no character building, due to there being no character building the only difference is the scenario which if you have watched a bit of eroanime gets boring quickly. Eromanga is better in that it usually have much better art, however they are often very short, 1 chapter or 1 volume, meaning usually a lack of character building. Eroge however can have long stories with fleshed out character as well as H-scenes, for me something like Eroge! Sex and Games Make Sexy Games and Imouto Paradise! is much more enjoyable than any eroanime or eromanga I have seen, and these titles are considered mediocre. So to conclude I think in terms of pornographic content VNs does a lot of good things that no other medium is doing. VNs also works well with mysteries due to how you can make choices and actively change how things play out, making the player much more engaged in the mystery. So in conclution I think it is more interesting to think of what kind of niche that works best with VNs rather than complain that it should be more like other mediums.

Looking for a Japanese-only recommendation
bakauchuujin replied to Okarin's topic in Recommendations
I found nukige to be rather annoying to read in japanese. The problem for me was that it slowed down the H-scenes too much and that killed the mood. So I would argue that nukige isn't the best thing to start with. -

If you want something easy I would recommend VNs based on series that had an anime before the VN (basically spinn-off VNs). These generally have a simple language and since I assume you would pick titles based on an anime you know the characters would be easier to understand. While these titles don't have furigana they tend to be fully voiced (including MC). Ofc these titles are only available on ps vita and ps4 so I gues whether you have those platforms or not is important. These titles tend to be a bit more than 20 hours, but are divided into shorter routes. Here are some examples New Game! The Challenge Stage!, Nisekoi: Yomeiri!? and Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?? Wonderful Party!. I also know there are some steam VNs with japanese language options, like nekopara, corona blossom and japanese school life. While these titles might not have a very easy japanese it shouldn't be too bad. They are also easy to find and you may already have them. -

The future of different western eroge publishers
bakauchuujin replied to bakauchuujin's topic in Visual Novel Talk
All of their other VNs are available for other regions. Also there was nothing in the kickstarter about it only being brought to America. From my understanding the localizers of VNs generally target all who speaks english outside of Japan. Also I gues no one will care if Nekonyansoft just decides that they will not let anyone outside of europe access their VNs. Just look at this line I found from their about us page on SP homepage. They really haven't done anything to my knowledge so far that says that they are a North American company who only delivers to North America. So I would think your argument about them being an American company is pretty bad. The image they have given of so far is that they localize things for the english speaking world outside of Japan, when they suddenly betray this image and because of it planned to not deliver on something people payed for I would say the people who payed for it should arguably be pretty mad. I am not a backer of this kickstarter so this doesn't effect me personally, though I find this behaviour of them to be very bad. -

Got to love how they phrase things We certainly haven't forgotten about you, the Root Double family. Well except for all the backers that are not from North America, that is seemingly a part of the family you didn't care about that much. We appreciate everyone's patience during the development of this port, and can't wait for all of you backers to get your hands on it. This is just a blaitant lie, not all backers will get their hand on it. Either they are lying, didn't know about the only North America problem even at such a late date or the ones writing this just wasn't informed. Lies and incompetence, yeah this is the SP we all know. Kind of want to change my wish for the future of SP to burn. Also it seems like they didn't care about anyone not from North America before the backlash. Here is a line from their kickstarter update. -

Found out Sekai Project just added one more reason for people to hate them. They will only release the ps vita version of root double in America and basically says screw you to everyone else who backed at that pledge. This line is so great. Basically, fuck you if you pledged this tier and live outside of north America, we will not give you what you paid for and also thank you for being so understanding when we just screwed you over. Really glad the only SP kickstarter I pledged for was the nekopara one, which was handled by nekoworks, not SP. If they keep this up maybe they will manage to get so bad reputation that they go bankrupt, I atleast hope that would be the case. -

Sekai Project is using kickstarter a lot, that in itself isn't really too much of a problem. The problem is that they have poor communication with both the fans and the developers. They are often not able to answer simple questions like whether a title will have mosaics or not. From what I understand they outsource their translations and as of late haven't bothered checking if the translations were any good or done a proofreading of them to remove spelling errors, or you know translate untranslated lines. They also make a lot of promises that they have a hard time keeping. For example they have had long delays in regards to getting things on ps vita which they have promised on a lot of kickstarters. They are also known to delay their releases by quite a lot. Probably the most notable is their delay is grisaia which was planned to be physically delivered october 2015. This physical edition is still not sent to their backers, though I do think they have mentioned it being this or next month, still quite a while. The last of the grisaia VNs was also released last desember, as you can see these dates are quite far from October 2015. While this is one of the worse cases, their kickstarters are filled with similar problems. Their 18+ page that sells 18+ editions as well as patches also sucks. There is a download limit on their titles, which is annoying and the acces to the games are given trough email and you need to keep the email or email their support to get to download it again. They are also usually slow at releasing 18+ versions as that has lower priority for them. They don't care about removal of mosaic, something that was quite appearant in regards to the Chrono Clock release. Lastly this is more of a personal thing, they don't release physicals outside of kickstarters, which I have already explained to you why isn't a good option to buy the VN from them. These are the main complaints I can think of at the moment, though there probably are more. -
The future of different western eroge publishers

The Jast censorship thing is one of the reasons I think they should just remove laws regarding obscenity. These laws are just stupid in that they lack any sort of scientific backing of them doing anything positive for a society at all. Pretty much their only argument is the violent video games make people more violent argument, which has pretty much debunked. Now instead of saying violent video games make people violent they just say people become pedofiles by having looked at drawings of characters with childish features. -
I prefere to play nep on PC or PS4, love tsunako's art and like it to look the best it possibly can.

With all the new eroge companies being created I want to know what people think about the future of different western eroge publishers, both what you think will happen as well as what you hope will happen. I gues I should just start with what I think will happen with some companies. Warning: There are many Fuwanovel people who probably knows a lot more than me about these companies, do not take this as solid predictions, it is mainly here to start a discussion Mangagame: Continue like normal, bringing us more good titles. Jast USA: Continue like normal, few and slow releases. Sekai Project: Continue like normal, can't really expect them to get much better, they have had many opportunities. Frontwing: It seems like they are improving with how they handle things in general, seeing as how they actually reacted to some critisism they got in regard to Corona blossom. They probably will continue releasing their VNs both in Japan and english at the same time, and occationally translate an old VN from their own library or some other company. Sol Press: Probably keep doing kickstarter for some more VNs or just end up doing it on all their VNs. Seems like they have a good translation staff atleast and manage to keep backers informed. Nekonyan: Probably release decent, but not great translations. Considering the amount of lisences they have we might get a lot of titles from them in the future. Mikandi: Not really sure whether they will continue or not, they haven't had any project since libra other than help promote Newton and the apple tree. Considering the amount of other new companies and their lack of new projects I feel like the retranslation patch might be the last thing from them regarding VN. I might be wrong, I am not an expert and haven't really followed them closely. Fakku: I think they will probably mainly just continue being a store front one could potentially buy VNs from. They are working with Lyricbox, though Lyricbox only have 2 potential titles at the moment. Illusion's games are 3D so not sure how much overlap there is between that fanbase and the typical VN fanbase. Fruitbat factory: Don't have enough knowledge about them. Cherrykissgames: It seems like they are struggeling with their kickstarter, it seems they plan a long future working with Miel and Norn, but I am not sure if they got enough support. PQube: Don't have enough knowledge about them, but I gues they will just continue publishing originally all ages VNs on consoles. Hikari Fields: The backlash from Tayutama 2 makes them give up on english and they just keep being a chinese publisher. Moenovel: Continue releasing Pulltop VNs without 18+ content and be a constant annoyance. What I hope will happen Mangagamer: All their future VNs that are 10+ hours get physical release. Jast USA: More VNs, shorter wait time. Sekai Project: Get worse sales due to their mess ups, after which they start losing licensing parterns and ultimatly leave the VN buisness. Frontwing: That they manage to bring over all Frontwing VNs to the west, hopefully also as physicals. Sol Press: That their translation is good and that they stop using kickstarter, but still provide physical releases. Nekonyan: That they manage to have good translation or we atleast see them improving each title starting with a decent translation. Also that they manage to release all their VNs physically and take over all the licenses SP would have goten. Mikandi: Considering the amount of other VN companies out there I don't feel like they are needed. Also while they are working on imroving their translation I feel like it is too much of a risk having them get good licenses, as such I kind of hope they leave the VN industry. Fakku: Hope they manage to push SP VNs to get mosaics removed as well as sell some SP VNs physically. Fruitbat Factory: Haven't really looked too much into them, so I am not sure what I would hope from them. Cherrykissgames: I am personally not very interested in Norn and Miel VNs. I will probably buy some when there is a large discount, but considering the vndb scores I don't think I am going to end up playing many of them. I gues I still want them to continue though since I don't see anything negative in what they are doing and they seem to want to improve their localisation trough adding things like animation and zoom functions. PQube: Haven't really looked too much into them, so I am not sure what I would hope from them. Hikari Field: The backlash from Tayutama 2 makes them give up on english and they just keep being a chinese publisher. Moenovel: Burn

Fuwa Confession: I Have to Take a Complex Decision
bakauchuujin replied to Sendu's topic in General Discussion
One thing I kind of question is whether or not Japan have a strong school system. As I understand it they usually do test using multiple choice. Because of this and the fact that they use a lot of time studying they score well on international tests that are also multiple choice. This way of testing is however quite flawed. It makes it so that people only care about small pieces of information that is relevant in those types of tests, which makes it so that they usually ignore things like broader context. I also heard from a friend of mine who has studied in Japan for almost a year that the japanese people generally are really bad at discussing things during the class even if asked, and there is a lack of building ones own opinions on matters. While this can work in subject like mathematics it doesn't go well with things like history, biology. Ofc I am not discuraging you from going to Japan though I would advise you to research different important things about the country before you make your choice rather than base everything on assumptions.
