Trust ittaku to handle To Heart 2 :sachi:

Heh well it is my job to keep the project alive... this is the 8th year it's been alive and I don't plan to forget about it any time soon till it's done and dusted.

  2. See if you can find the old True Love 95, as that was a VN dating sim where you had to power up statistics to suit the girl you were chasing. It was also quite awesome and long predates all the other sims that claim to have been the first dating sim game. Played perfectly you can literally get *every* girl, H included. It was also my introduction to visual novels over 20 years ago and started an obsession I've been unable to shake off since then (and nor do I want to).

Edit: You can play it in your browser even here:

  3. Some recommendations are suitable, but there are a lot of gut-wrenching VNs recommended in this thread... are you guys sadistic? Heart warming isn't just a happy ending after being taken to hell and back.  Try To Heart 2. Drama isn't remotely challenging in it and most of the characters are charming and the bulk of the endings are happy++

Going to start Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry now

Have heard some good things about it, and the MC seems like the personality I'd like

You won't regret it. I have a friend who's not into anime and wanted to show him what some of the best executed modern anime was like and we sat down and marathoned this whole show from start to finish and he agreed it was superb. That makes it the 6th time I've watched it through I think. Can't have me too much Stella...

EDIT: What we watched after that for a change of pace were all the existing episodes of Oshiete! Galko-chan.

Both series came as a surprise to him for both thematic material and execution.

  5. Originally, science-fiction implies fiction where there is theoretical science that is presumed to be possible at some stage in the future, and alternate planets/alien species that could well exist somewhere in the universe. Fantasy implies paranormal phenomena and alternate worlds with impossible science (such as magic, different world physics, spirit beings etc.) There is obviously a lot of crossover where stories are either predominantly science with a little bit of fantasy and vice versa. Over the years the distinction has gotten very blurry and there is rarely any pure science fiction any more, though there is plenty of pure fantasy. If you read some of the scifi classics such as I robot, foundation, etc. you'll see they were written by scientists of their era, usually what would be called physicists today, and they went to great effort to explain the theoretical science for some of their future concepts. I don't think there's a great reason to try to clearly differentiate them now given how much even predominantly science based fiction includes fantasy elements. Go to an old-fashioned book store with dead tree type books and you'll see they just lump all the books into the combined science-fiction/fantasy section. As our real world science evolves so rapidly and technology outstrips the concepts of science fiction faster than people can come up with ideas for future science, pure science-fiction novels date very fast so the elements of fantasy make them much more enjoyable to read. Hence the rise in popularity of fantasy.

  6. Well I certainly didn't predict boku dake would go that way. It remains awesome to the end. I had trouble not crying at one stage during that ep.

Konosuba, great ending. 2nd season, Yoroshiku onegai shimasu.

Kouya wo mezasu yawn, the only unexpected plot twist and 100% predictable resolution of it. Even the romantic interests execution is a joke.

  7. You can go back even older to CGA graphics for the originals. While it is a high school game, make sure you try and find a working version of true love 95. My first ever VN, it's more of a dating sim, where you have to power up stats to get the right girl, and perfectly played you can get all of them on the one play through. I've also played and enjoyed 3 sisters story, immoral story 1&2 (skip 3), divi-dead, desire, may club, paradise heights 1/2, season of the sakura, time stripper mako-chan, maid's story, transfer student. I can't remember the others around that time. Oh, Ring-out pro lesring was crap. There's others but I haven't played them. All quite different to how VNs are now.

  8. Added Hanayamata after just finishing that and remembered Absolute Duo and Amagi Brilliant Park from the other thread and added that. Not sure if I'll be able to watch btoom through...

EDIT: Moved K-On to my list as well. I've only watched season 1 so far but it definitely fits the criteria on that season.

EDIT2: Added Gate and Heavy Object which just finished

Definitely agreed - the romance did get a little bit of real screen time occasionally, and it was always a joy to watch the two emotional idiots wondering "Why did I do that nice thing for him/her?"

BTW, and you won't hear it from me but allegedly there are some awesome hentai doujins if you're looking for closure ;)
