  1. Finished No-Rin and Mahou Sensou. No-Rin was okay. Mahou Sensou was meh. Onto K-On2 with my wife; it's not so bad on rewatch. By myself I'm still slowly ploughing through Cardcaptor Sakura which has surprisingly been refreshing even if it's still quite childish.

    On the NagiAsu front

    Spoiler

I particularly liked the totally unexpected way they wove the young characters into the love polygon after the 5 years. On rewatch it was much clearer that the young girls had crushes on the older boys but on the first watch I was completely oblivious to it. Of the girls, I actually felt most sorry for Chisaki. Those 5 years must have been torture and Tsumugu was for her definitely a distant second best.

  2. I hated Clannad in anime form. I gave up the TV series after an episode was dedicated to weeding. Then I found myself in the fansub group that subbed afterstory and hated it even more. What drivel.

EDIT: Actually I helped translate check one of the alternate universe OVAs too where he ends up with one of the other girls and actually liked that one episode standalone.

    Hah! I called it!

Man this episode is filled with symbolism especially that red and blue ogre fairytale. Literal representations....

Also did anyone notice this? It startled me a bit and had to rewind to see it clearly.

I think you're seeing something different than you think you're seeing there. To me it's just

A reflection of the one he's talking to. It's not her sister. The hair is pink after all in the reflection and you see her reflection up close later on compared to that screenshot you have.

I almost suggested Kokoro Connect, although that first arc has a bit of that fanservicey gag stuff, but it's one of my favorites as well. Anyway, given the above, I have a feeling you'd really like NagiAsu. It's got the most complex love polygon I've ever seen, but I mean that in the best possible way. I don't recall it having all that much humor, but it has quite a lot of romance and drama, a fair bit of suspense, and a fascinating setting. The ending isn't for everybody (paging Nosebleed for a rebuttal to this suggestion), but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved NagiAsu and watched it almost in one sitting. It was just as good on a rewatch when my wife watched it too where I saw the relationships from a totally different perspective thanks to the knowledge of hindsight.

Good progress. Sorry for slightly uncomfortable question here, but will you translating twins and the 51% of Anzu's route after finishing Izumi? If not that's okay then, alhough I'm still thankful that you decided to translate 2 routes though.

Both of those routes have translators allocated, one of which is Astro himself (for Anzu's route) so hopefully that won't be necessary. While I've found myself alone on other projects before and had to finish most of the work myself, I don't believe that will happen here. Plus I'm doing Izumi's route now because it's my favourite so I might find it hard to get the motivation to go backwards. Having said that, I plan to continue translating something after this so who knows. Then again, you may all regret me translating anyway since I don't think of myself as a great translator.

Wow, that's good work, but are you currently translating this alone?

The homepage for the project is linked in the top post; you can check out who the other staff are and the progress there:

Though having said that I've been the only one active recently after Anri's route was completed. Astro, the team leader, is busy with work and school for the time being according to the IRC channel. I just happen to be at a stage in life where I have intentionally given myself lots of spare time to do this since I enjoy doing it.

  7. Finished AmagamiSS and the 2 specials. It was pretty good. Not exceptional but enjoyable enough as an anime rendition of a VN. I'll save SS+ for another time.

With my wife we finished Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou and The Devil is a Part Timer which she really enjoyed and now we're watching K-on which she doesn't mind.

Now for old shows myself I'm currently watching Magical Warfare, No-rin and Cardcaptor Sakura, all of which are okay (they're on Animelab which I'm a subscriber of so it's a no-brainer to watch them.)

And personally i prefer mildly predicable to unpredictable, as those shows tend to suffer from absolutely horrendous pacing issues.

Absolutely. The worst shows bring random inexplicable plot devices in at random intervals to explain things away that you can never even see making sense in retrospect. That's the usual sign of bad writing and there are thousands of shows that fit into that category... this season included.

Another great episode of kabaneri, it really might turn out to be the best series of the season.

Agreed. Things are starting to fall into logical place kind of predictably but not in a bad way. The execution is excellent.

Working my way through sugar+spice 2 and honestly... I'm bored. It's a pale shadow of the first game...

Well the progress of this took an unexpected turn. While I still stick to my original summary that this game is not as good as the first, it turns out my main problem was I just didn't like 2 of the heroines in the game. I played Sana's route and it was kind of boring and then Kaoruko's who I actually didn't like and ended up skipping through a lot of it. After that I decided to turn to the cousin route, Fuuka, and I was pleasantly surprised.

One unusual thing about this game is you need to actually go through each girl's route 3 times to be able to get most of the important scenes for them. When you finish a route it asks you if you want to save the girl's goodwill towards you for the next time you play through the game. The idea is that you can play the game through again and it takes a relatively different storyline if you choose different scenes to play with the girl. In principle it sounds good but the reality is once you've played through a heroine's route once she is not that interesting for the second time around so I ended up skipping all the scenes I'd already played and tried to get H scenes that were still locked - and you can't get them unless you play them multiple times. The nice thing is you can configure it to just choose "skip" for scenes you've already played through, but you still get the heroine's goodwill towards you for playing that scene. Each scene has a list of girls and whether they appear in that scene or not which gives you an idea of if they'll develop goodwill towards you or not.

The other thing is that you get to choose when to confess to the girl of your choice and you may have to confess more than once for the girl to respond favourably, depending on just how much goodwill she has towards you. On multiple plays, you may not even need to confess to her at all, she may confess to you or you may end up together after a particularly good storyline scene. How early you can confess improves on 2nd and 3rd play throughs.

Now what made Fuuka's route interesting was I actually liked her, and by the time I played her route I'd played all the regular common scenes so I could just skip through them (which doesn't even play it at fast speed, it just acknowledges that the scene has been played). But more importantly, her H scenes were not really that contrived by eroge standards and rather hot. Finally each heroine route has one major drama to deal with and hers was totally and completely unexpected to me. The annoying thing is this game would earn a completely different tag on vndb but since it's the end of her route it would be a major spoiler so you won't even know it's there till either you play it or you have it completely spoiled.

Major spoiler tag in the unlikely even any of you will ever play this.

    Spoiler

Even though she is his cousin, she ends up being his true blood related sister. I thought this would be a mistake and then be unravelled in a later scene but they do in fact end up together and acknowledge it's very real. Furthermore, while the drama surrounding it is relatively light and not that hard to read or handle, the response of people and family around him ends up being quite comical instead of disastrous. They never really explore what happens long term and the real difficulties it involves but then again that's in keeping with how light hearted the game really is.

I still hold that there are too many random scenes that aren't really relevant once you've chosen the heroine's route but then you only need to choose the 'love' choices and ignore the rest but then they all seem a waste and it feels strange reading scenes that are neutral with the girls once you've apparently got a girlfriend. Nonetheless after the first play through this game actually gets better and more interesting.

food discussion, I came to hate this, I really cant stand it anymore, every time someone starts talking about food or anything related to that, for example, what they are going to cook, what ingredients will they buy to make some special dish etc etc I skip it, I don't give a crap if it is important or not.

This is because the Japanese are a foodie nation, they're obsessed by food. To give you some background... no, forget that, I'm sick of it too. MASH SKIP BUTTON NOW.

I really love this anime as of 5 episodes in, easily my favorite this season, no competition.

Removed from spoiler tag since it's no spoiler, but I'd have to agree it's one of the best. Not sure on the no competition though when you factor in Kabaneri which has also been great. The real test is to see if they can both maintain intrigue to the end instead of falling over as other shows have done. So far so good for both of these shows but it's too early to tell.

At least after episode 5 we get the answer to the question of

    Spoiler

what triggers a reset. It's at least implied by now that it universally involves death, though the mechanism of his prior reset/death remains unknown.

I can't tell if you're joking or not. It looks like you misunderstood. I was talking about the show 12-Sai.Chicchana.Mune.no.Tokimeki and the character Takao from it...

Sakamoto is starting to wear out its jokes.... but from the looks of it next episode will be more interesting.

I told you all straight up after episode 1, Sakamoto is shit. Y'all got hardons from the bromance when there's nothing really amusing or sustaining about it.
