  1. Working my way through sugar+spice 2 and honestly... I'm bored. It's a pale shadow of the first game, reuses most of the background CGs from the 1st, has almost no interesting story to speak of. The choose-your-own non-linear path through the story is proving to this one's detriment where there doesn't seem to be much flow to the story as a result. The only redeeming thing is the choose when to try to confess to the heroine - and you may need to try multiple times and still not get her through that mechanism, which is what attracted me to it, but it's not enough to save this. The trap is annoying the hell out of me too because he's openly a guy, but is an obvious female VA, and even dresses mostly in effeminate clothing. The joke wore thin very quickly and they keep dragging it up (pun intended). I wish I'd spent my money better. Now I'm only working my way through it because I bought it and I want to get the character CGs.

I'm currently with one of the classics Cardcaptor Sakura, just finished ep.15, i'll pick up something newer later.

I've had my eye on that one for a while. How's it look by today's standards? A lot of classics have dated and the style has changed making them lose their sheen when I get around to watching them so I'm curious about this one.

Without spoiler tags I'll be suitably vague:

His last shouted comment about the future will probably sway the person to behave differently.

Boku may be used, albeit less commonly, by young girls (and less so by adolescent tomboys) though I don't recall Kayo using it.

Guilty Crown - with its high quality of art and music you'd think it would be great. But nooooo people decided that jumping between 3-4 writers during the show would be good. The inconsistency of the plot and the characters both was just ridiculous.

I'm glad someone else felt the same way. Can't believe people raved about this show... I gave it up half way through.

  5. I added a link to the list of my anime in the top post (I use ANN) just for reference, but unfortunately my list is incomplete since I didn't start it when I first started watching anime 20 years ago. I'm trying to remember and add to it over time.

    http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/MyAnime/?user=#844923&categ=3

I've also added Angel Beats since other people found it satisfying into the others group, even though I didn't find the ending that happy myself... it's more of the sort of positive sombre ending for me which doesn't fill my criteria.

  6. LOLs how can anyone forget to mention Oreimo? RAAAAAGE.

Also Negima. I scanlated that fucking manga for almost 200 chapters and our group eventually died unable to finish it off... yet it had the most nothing ending ever thanks to the mangaka being disgusted with his company or something and decided to troll them instead by having an unfinished finish after 300+ chapters. Every anime adaptation of it has been woeful. The first one started out okay and turned to shit by season 2 and every one after that got worse. Only the occasional OVA was any good... hardly doing the series justice but who cares since it never had a real ending.

Today I picked up Amagi Brilliant Park to watch while cooking. Dinner was simple so I only got in one episode, but that first episode was pretty damn strong. I'm looking forward to more of the show.

Good choice. That show was a lot of fun but desperately needs a sequel (like so many other good shows).

  8. As already stated, there is no such thing as a good machine translator. One of the biggest problems is even calling them machine translators. They are only electronic dictionaries with rudimentary grammar deconstruction to figure out what verb conjugation is being used. It's used as an aid for someone who already understands some Japanese to begin with to aid with unfamiliar vocabulary, kanji, etc. Those who don't know Japanese and try to read/watch/play things in Japanese use text hookers and friends initially thinking this is going to be the godsend. Usually it doesn't take long to realise that what you're looking at doesn't remotely turn into even a tiny semblance of what's written in Japanese. Sorry, but true, good, machine translation is decades if not centuries away since it would need true artificial intelligence - and despite anything you read, we haven't even begun making real progress in that area.

  9. I've finally finished translating Tsubame's route and uploaded my changes so it's 100% complete (except for text on graphics). As stated previously, I'm not that strong a translator so the translate check/editor will have their work cut out for them but I feel it's reasonably solid. There's a fair amount of Kansai dialect from both Tsubame who tries to disguise her accent and much more so from her brother who does not, but fortunately I've done work with Kansai before (twins in To heart 2) so it didn't present the most difficulty.

This was a mostly fun route to translate. Her story was very easy to get involved in and she's absolutely adorable. The drama is very light and easily resolved but serves as a nice counterpoint to make her story more fulfilling. The H scenes start out very hot right from the start and then... become quite absurd by the end. I think I lost millions of brain cells on that last one. One part I did not enjoy was translating H sound effects which drove me mad in this and ended up being the main thing delaying progress. I can only face so many sucking and slurping sounds before questioning why I was wasting my time translating what looks crap by the time it's in English and this VN has more than I've ever seen. Fortunately most people gloss over the sound effects when faced with an H scene so you wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't pointed it out. Anyway I'm going to take a rest from translating having finished this route since I'd rather actually play the rest of the game through than translate it now.

Eh, I probably am biased on this. Good rom-coms are hard to come by, which is why I hold this one in high regard. It was one of those shows that kept me consistently entertained and had a pairing I could actually give a damn about. The last few episodes had some fantastic direction too. Well, there was a little bit of an issue with character insertion in one area, but no big deal.

I also kinda have personal disagreements with some of the anime on your list too (FMAB, Eureka 7, Shakugan no Shana, and Kanon 2006), and thought Mikakunin was more satisfying than them. I have one other friend who considers it special as well.

Well that's how taste is. I guess I can add your show to the "others" recommended list, even though I've seen it myself and wouldn't include it in my own list.

EDIT: Done. I've changed the category to explain why it's others. I feel similar for example about One Week Friends - a wonderful show and while the ending was pleasing in its own way, I did not feel ultimately satisfied  since >spoilers go here< damn still no spoiler tags. I'd still recommend watching both shows, I just wouldn't give them that ultimate tag.

Pretty sure you're right. I've had my eye on him for a while too and he gets more suspicious with every episode. Besides, it's only logical that the murderer needs to be a character we know from somewhere in the story otherwise there's no dramatic tension and resolution if they end up being a character introduced that we've never heard of at the last moment.

I'd also like to see Mikakunin de Shinkoukei added to the list. I consider this anime a hidden gem. It's surprisingly difficult to predict, highly enjoyable, and has a wonderful ending. It's the rare kind of rom-com you ever get to see anymore, and I've yet to find any new anime in the genre that compare to it.

The story doesn't really conclude in the 1st season, but it is very satisfying. The male lead is really good in this too.

I didn't mind that series Engaged to the Unidentified, and the end was pretty good but I can't say I'd put the ending in the same category as the ultimately satisfying ones listed here.

And why is having a romantic interest (again it is between kaname and sousuke this time) a bad thing? clannad is all about that, specially the first part which you have like 8 girls trying to hit the same guy xD then after story is about nagisa but still is a love story.

It seems to me you don't love kaname as much as I do :amane:

Now I'm hyped for the new season :P

Woah woah woah don't get me wrong - romance is by far and away my most preferred genre, and I'm pretty sure I've fapped to Chidori myself. I've got these on BD (even though they are lousy upscales). I was just saying it's still a harem, even if it's only barely a background feature (except in the OVA).

what I tried to say was :

Full metal panic! = it's harem, I agree with you but
Full metal panic the second raid is not harem at all (and is the continuation of full metal panic), in fact there is no comedy or at least I don't remember any, also it's always about kaname and sousuke, it is sad buuuut the ending is really happy and it fits with "satisfying endings that make you happy to have watched a series right through to the end"
fumoffu I don't think it can be included

I didn't know there was another season scheduled :o

Don't want to throw in too many spoilers (for the remaining one person on the planet who hasn't watched this masterpiece) but there most definitely was romantic interest in S2 (remember Chidori going to China?). And let's not forget the OVAs for S2+.

New season (basically no details yet):

come on they clearly state that they are going to end up together... that is ultra cheesy and happy D: second raid is not harem at all in fact is really depressing the first part well yep it is kinda

LOL make up your mind. Well yeah they both deserve to be in the top post (but not fumoffu). BTW there's a new season finally scheduled. I'll fap to that.

    Berserk ;D (じょうだんだよ!)

now seriously full metal panic and second raid that ends in a super ultra happy ending. I don't know if you want to include fumoffu which is an stand alone with mostly comedy .

Well they are indeed great shows, but... unresolved harem as per top post (I know it's an action series but it's still a harem). Oh and no way would I call fumoffu's ending ultimately happy or satisfying (though I never knew a hair cut could be so erotic).

Some animes that meet your requirements after checking my MAL:

F/SN Unlimited Blade Works - It's not too long, enjoyable to watch with amazing animation and a happy ending that feels pretty well closed. I haven't read the VN though, so I can't compare it to the original story.

Gosick - Amazing mistery story that connects its arcs very well, with likeable characters and, again, a closed happy ending.

Nagi no Asukara - A lot of slice of life and romance, so the story has a lot of ups and downs, but it ends well.

Hanasaku Iroha - Slice of life again. The ending is not AS closed compared to the other recommendations, but it is happy.

The one I'd probably recommend the most is Gosick. It's enjoyable all the way through and it left me with a nice feeling of completion; I wouldn't ask for more episodes.

Thanks very much. Nagi no Asukara is already on the list (A lull in the sea) but I'll add the others. I'd already started gosick so this makes me happy :)
