Fuwanovel/Visual Novel Noob

Hello Fuwanovel Community,

I am not really good at self-introductions...

My name is Adrienn (even though its Hungarian pronunciation is closer to the French Adrienne, in English-speaking countries they pronounce it as Adrian, which creates some funny situations, especially when I am on the phone/Skype and later meeting the person in real life I turn out to be a girl rather than a high-pitched boy... why am I writing so much about it) I am currently a last year student, majoring in English. My second field of study is Japanese. I wish to be a translator or an interpreter (but preferably the first one), translating games and such from Japanese to Hungarian (my mothertongue) and to English. I still have a lot to learn, but that's why I decided to start doing free translations.

Even though we practice translation at university and the fact that I am not a fan of visual novels (yet?), I am eager to translate the one I am currently playing with: Durarara!! 3way standoff -alley-. Durarara!! is my all time favourite anime, no wonder I wanted to propose my friend when she lent me her PSP with this game on it. Tee~hee.

Currently, I am not dealing with exctracting the scripts, basically because I don't know how much time it will take to translate this game to both languages; but if someone could have a look at it and tell me which extractor/hacking software I should choose, I would be really grateful. As for the time being, I translate the lines one by one and save them to Notepad++ (and also drawing a mindmap to see which routes are still missing).

If I am about to finish one or two routes, I will open a thread for it but I don't want to make a mess on the forum in case of dropping the project.

Nice to meet you.

Welcome to our community, you definitely came to the right place.

Good luck with your translation endeavors! I'm sure you'll get plenty of practice on the many VNs waiting to be translated

However it seems that you are going at it alone on Durarara... If you are the one translating you don't want to have to worry about the technical hacking aspect too (especially with PSP games) Participating in a team, even if it is small, will greatly reduce your workload and keep morale up for the project

Oh. My. Goodness. A fellow Durarara!! lover!? *squeals a little*...Well, it's hard not to be a fan of such a good series, let's be honest. I have a feeling well get along juuust fine ^.^

Anyway, welcome welcome to our abode. Talk, enjoy yourself, righteously and valiantly discuss matters of extreme importance with our world class community, or something like that xD

Also, I know a girl named Adrienne, but she's straight Chinese. That's interesting.

OH WAIT. The most important part: Read Tsukihime and Katawa Shoujo. They each are incredible works of art

Welcome to the forums fellow fuwan. As for VNs you should play, if you want there's a recommendation sub-forum, my own personal recommendations of english translated ones would be, Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, G-Senjou no Maou and Grisaia no Kajitsu. Do note that they are mostly targeted towards a male demographic(basically the h-scenes, since these are all 18+ VNs) so I don't know if you would like it all that much.

Thank you for all the welcomes, it is indeed an active and nice community.

Long post is looooooong.

You'll probably need to find someone who knows how to hack VNs, specifically PSP ones which are often an even bigger pain to hack than PC ones. Still, good luck!

Both Tsukihime and Katawa Shoujo are technically 18+ and from a male perspective, so that might bother you. Katawa Shoujo is a lovely romance story, so that might be a be an issue for you. Tsukihime, however, is a different type of story and I think any gender can fully enjoy it.

Also ShinraCelty for life!

As I said before the recommendations I made are targeted for males, in the way that the 18+ content is viewed from the POV of the male character. Now eroge doesn't necessarily mean that it's basically a "porn game", eroge just means (...)

Wow, that's a fully detailed explanation! I am now ashamed of myself that I didn't do research on the word eroge and just used it ahead. It turns out that my foreign friends who are into Visual Novels used this word a bit misleadingly. Sorry for that!

As for the nude scenes, even though I am not underaged I am rather awkward and shy when it comes to these things. Even if I look for an otome game (since I want to try them out, one of my friends showed me one and it had awesome graphics) I will try to avoid them. All hail the mighty skip button~
