Scars Unseen Posted July 4, 2014 Share Posted July 4, 2014 I used to work for an ISP. The ISP isn't tracking your torrents(or at least the one I worked for didn't). They couldn't care less what you do; they only care about bandwidth. It's the content owners that are sending lists of violations to the ISPs, who then just forward them to the users(and sometimes disable your account depending on the individual ISP's policies). So you almost certainly are not going to get letters for currently running anime, as the studios in Japan usually don't have an American presence. The content providers only have the IP Address, so someone at the ISP(me) has to match the IP Address with a modem's MAC Address and then identify the customer with that modem. It's a pain in the ass, and as an added bonus, you get to discover your customer base's porn habits. Trust me, this is knowledge you don't want. I use Brighthouse (Florida only) and they have not gotten on my case about torrenting at all. And even then, those 3 I mentioned probably won't care if the material you're downloading does not have origins in this country. I'd also suggest leaving Pirate Bay alone. But yeah, I've been torrenting for years and my ISP has not gotten on my case at all. I don't even use a proxy or VPN. But I actually would like more confirmation on Comcast. The area I'm moving to has Comcast instead of Brighthouse and I'm a bit worried on what to do with torrenting. Anyone have any suggestions? I've heard about Comcast throttling torrents too. I hope there are good alternatives where I'm moving to. I can't use torrents or direct downloads as they would fill up computer space quickly, and hard drive space is one thing I don't have enough of. I also buy them at times, but that's rare as I prefer subtitles and I prefer to watch shows quick. Also, torrenting it when you can stream it seems like a waste of time to me. I prefer PinoyAnime or AnimeFave for most of my anime needs. If I can't find it there, I look everywhere. Oh, and I tend to avoid Crunchyroll and Funimation. Strangely though i downloaded animes that i found uninteresting, but in the end i watched it in the end. And i watched all my animes at least 2 times(for the first time and second time i`ll go raw). So whoever at the ISP is processing the C&Ds has to open the file and add in the infringing party's information. If it helps, I don't think I ever actually processed any C&D orders for anime. You either have to pay people or pay for software licenses(most likely both) in order to find the content and the people downloading it. The Big Media corps can afford to swallow that cost in hopes of deterring piracy. Smaller companies have to weigh the potential benefits against the very real costs. I have this deal with a friend where he gives me Crunchyroll and he gives me Netflix, and I'm working around to getting free account of Hulu despite not living in the U.S. However, it really can't be helped when the material just doesn't reach us, and since I hate seeing anything in general in my computer, I download the torrent and put the files on a USB so I can watch on a Blu ray or something. But once you watch in 1080 (720 preferably if your monitor is less than 42") you see how crappy streams are.
