I'm actually proud of Grimgar's restraint. It managed to go an entire episode without an insert song. Now if we could just get them to stop talking about Manato every 5 minutes... Schwarzesmarken... I'm definitely enjoying this show, but I can't help but feel sad that it's not going to be in my top 3 this season because they compressed the story into a single cour. Rakugo is a goddamned work of art. If anything tops this for anime of the year for me, that just means it will have been a damned good year. Erased... loving it, and probably my #2 of the season, but I do wish they put more effort into the mystery. This was like a two player game of Clue. Ajin is fantastic, marred only by the fact that traditional Japanese low framerate animation is very obvious in an all CG show. But the content of the show itself is tops. Konosuba is the absolute worst... ...for only being 10 episodes long. I want more, do you hear me Deen?! Gate is still Gate.

It's something to consider...

It's a really young cat demon with a lollipop. I know this is supposed to be cute or even sexy, but the first thought that comes to mind is "how many ways would I go to prison?" 7/10

Scars Unseen replied to Scars Unseen's topic in Visual Novel Talk
It's the final countdown! No seriously, like just over half an hour and it's done. -
Watching Texhnolyze as part of a Rewatch on /r/anime. 2 episodes in. Bleak as hell.

Just finished Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, and.... hmm... On the one hand, I like the premise as well as the overall story. On the other hand, the pacing is weird, and it just kind of cuts off. In other words, a typical LN adaptation. I think I may follow LiquidShu's lead and go with Ergo Proxy next.

What essential features should modern VNs today have?
Scars Unseen replied to Kanbe's topic in Visual Novel Talk
It seems like it'd be pretty easy to pull off. Spriter Pro could do it with likely minimal effort, and there should be plenty of people that have that from the Humble Bundle that practically gave it away with some other game dev tools a while back(I really should get around to playing around with that stuff...) -
What essential features should modern VNs today have?

It'd have to be a lot more subtle and less frequent for me to view it as a positive. People don't move like that when they breathe unless they just finished a 5k run. -
I've been working on my backlog since I'm not watching many shows this season. Just finished up Katanagatari, I'm feeling... things.

So my top shows of the season: Rokka no Yuusha - Went in expecting a basic kill-the-monster show and got a locked room mystery. Fantasy Aztec Anime Batman is awesome. Classroom Crisis - Another expectation defier. I really didn't think I'd be getting a political/corporate thriller out of this show. Overlord - It's pure power fantasy, but it's good power fantasy. Ains-sama is P2W. Jitsu wa Watashi wa - Nice relaxing comedy that occasionally goes off the rails. GATE - Another show that is fairly relaxing to watch. I like the characters, and I don't have to think too hard about where the show is going. There are some shows that might have made it, but they were kind of slow paced, so I saved them for a binge watch later. Off the top of my head are Gangsta, Arslan Senki and Ushio to Tora. Most disappointing show of the season: Charlotte. So much hype. So much trainwreck.

Honestly, I would have if it were the Alfred Walken one from Alternative instead of the EMD Phase 2 from Total Eclipse. I can drive 15 minutes over to Manga Souko and pick up a Take for around 5000 yen. I haven't seen a Raptor there, so I'd have to mail order that one. I'm guessing Kotobukiya doesn't want to take away from their own sales since the Walken one just came out this year.

I'd actually give him the benefit of the doubt in this case, as misinformation about Shenmue 3 is pretty widespread. I've seen threads where the predominant opinion is that Shenmue is proof that crowd funding is heading toward a collapse, pretty much entirely based on spurious information spread by websites whose writers couldn't find the word "fact" or "checking" in a dictionary at gunpoint.

Not to get too off track, but there is almost nothing true in your post. And the part that is is misleading. Shenmue 3 would not have been made without Kickstarter. That one Sony rep talked about how he could have pushed for it to be made without crowd funding, but that this would have taken several years before the project would have even gotten started. It wasn't already being made, and Sony is not funding the project(they are putting money into the PS4 release and marketing thereof, but that's not the same thing as development money). There is some outside funding, the extent of which is unknown, but it was made very clear that Shenmue wasn't getting made without crowd funding, and that the amount of crowdfunding would determine the scope of what could be achieved. Pretty much the same as with Bloodstained, only with worse PR. And Shenmue did not do a "second Kickstarter." They opened Paypal a Backer Kit, something practically every major successful video game Kickstarter has done. Bloodstained has one open right now. Pillars of Eternity had one(though it wasn't called a backer kit) for most of its development. Most visual novel Kickstarters have done it. Muv-Luv will as well. It's a normal part of the crowd funding cycle, usually focused on squeezing out a few more stretch goals and providing a way to contribute for people who won't or can't go through Kickstarter directly.

That's true, but in some ways, I think it works out in the campaign's favor. Getting some good momentum at the start is great, of course, but having the inevitable lull can also be a good thing because it makes people work harder to get the word out. I mean, obviously the best thing would be if we could just smash through all the stretch goals from the start, taking degica and age by surprise and forcing them to come up with new and exciting stretch goals to keep people interested in pledging(e.g. Bloodstained pretty much did this towards the end of its campaign), but if the goal is to hit the existing stretch goals, giving people motivation to spread the word is as important as getting the people already interested to pledge in.
-
I'm pretty sure there's a fair bit of life yet. You have the typical final 72 hour push, plus I've seen people on Reddit say that they're waiting to see the Vita stretch goal unlocked before they pledge in. I personally am planning on upping my pledge when we get close to the end once I've got a more concrete grasp on how much cash I'm going to have available. Actually, I would have pledged more already, but I had to spend $500 to replace my air conditioner, so I'm down from where I was expecting to be right now.

Just finished watching Nisekoi. Man, what a difference between this an Ore Monogatari... I don't know what Nisekoi actually means, but I strongly suspect that it's something along the lines of "Misunderstandings and Missed Opportunities: The Animation."

Just finished watching Love, Chuunibyou, and Other Delusions. Pretty hilarious, and I think a good primer for people who find Okabe in Steins;Gate annoying(I have some friends who I can't get to watch past episode 4 for this reason).
