If it even becomes remotely used, they'll just be sued into the floor and have to stop it, so who cares really, it has no future.

Basically this.  If public outcry doesn't stop this from launching, the law will eventually.  If the law doesn't... well, people will take matters into their own hands.  Do you think groups like Anonymous would just sit by and let this happen?  No, they'll dox them, they'll hack them, they'll use every weapon in their arsenal to sink this ship.  And they'll have popular support to do it.
