  1. Are you saying THIS isn't logical? You crazy not-Americans! -_-
  2. Katawa Shoujo got me into VNs, so I feel that the popularity aspect far outweighs any negative consequences. I think this sums it up. Many people aren't aware of the accessibility of anime online, much less visual novels. The word just has to spread. But yes, after seeing the topic, the complaints about this situation are justifiable. It seems that many people are in search of "material". However, if they unintentionally get caught up by the feel train, perhaps they will forget their original motives.
  3. If you like learning languages, it seems like this would be an excellent opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Immersion is a vital aspect of learning any language, but it especially applies to Japanese from an English-speaker's perspective since most of the foreign languages we learn have similar roots. Japanese, having an unfamiliar writing system and style of grammar, requires the closest you can get to first-hand experience. Visual novels are an especially practical medium through which to hone your skills, since you can both hear and read what's being said. So, for your circumstances, I recommend option 2. I'm sure you already know this, but bear in mind that it will take time before you can read at a reasonable pace.
  4. Yeah, well I can cook rice AND ramen.
  5. I think Rewrite is an appropriate choice. Even "SFW" visual novels with the basic multiple-heroine format tend to make common allusions to sex and such, but Rewrite is minimally explicit. On top of that, it's an overall good game, having been made by Key and being somewhat recent.
  6. That's because the first season would have best been slowed down, in my opinion. The first half was the only actual "Sword Art Online" part, and that was an appealing aspect of the show. Now, however, it seems like they're abusing the popularity by making filler that people will watch by obligation. We barely know what the conflict is yet.

    Hi.

I have! I took Asuho's route. The break-off point in that game is so far in that if I play again, I'll have to do a lot of skipping. Hooray! I do favor the moe ratio around here.
  8. Just about everything in Amaranto is lacking in quality. The BGM was like that of a low-budget 90's movie, the graphics were sub-par even for the time, the characters were one-dimensional, and I like hyphen-minus words. The later parts of the story were slightly more bearable, which is how I managed to finish it.
  9. I often switch between VNs if they're of different general categories. For example, Hoshimemo gives a much different feeling than, say, Saya no Uta. Or when I get a little too depressed reading Narcissu, I can go enjoy the dokidoki atmosphere of the typical eroge. -_-

    Hi.

Yeah, it seems like the game pushes the player toward Yumiko in some regards. That route might be my second choice, but I usually take a while to replay VNs so as to savor them individually. I've already watched the Clannad anime and After Story, but that doesn't exclude it from by bucket list. -_- I've heard that one before. A solid 9/10 pun. I like traps, but I'm not crazy about them. On my personal list, they're on the same tier as maids, perhaps. Also join a club! Gee whiz! Where do I sign up?
  11. NHK is the most wonderful depiction of the otaku life. I really enjoyed the manga, and if I recall correctly the anime is about the same with a few divergences later in the show. I recently began Great Teacher Onizuka. So far, it's great all-around; funny, good story, and even didacticism. I'm usually biased toward older shows, so I'm surprised that I'm enjoying it.

    Hi.

A moe, two turtles, and an FN P90! I expected no less! I'm indecisive on a favorite VN. I'm inclined to say Katawa Shoujo in spite of its overall below-average quality, but I'm probably biased in that opinion since it's the first one I've played. I hope KS isn't a taboo, as it is in some other communities. *shifts eyes horizontally* But for reference, a few others I enjoyed are Rewrite, My Girlfriend is the President, and Analogue: A Hate Story (another non-Japanese VN). Turtles. > EDIT: I need level up my smiley skills. I've read G-Senjou no Maou once. I tried Usami's route, but somehow failed terribly and got the bad ending on Tsubaki's route. It's high on my list of things to read again, because I obviously didn't get the whole story . I've actually recently started reading Grisaia no Kajitsu. I'm quite early in the game (I don't think there's been a choice yet), but I can tell it's abundant in literary prowess. I'll probably take Makina's route. Thank you for the manifold welcomes!

    Hi.

Likewise! It's also worth mentioning that, having experience with this type of IPB forum, I like to use the -_- smiley to express a jocund or sarcastic mood when it might otherwise be lost.
  14. A 9-page introduction topic. That's very respectable. -_-

    Hi.

Hi. I've been semi-lurking here for a while, and finally joined to get involved in the Noble Works project as a translator. I read visual novels and shizzle. I like turtles. Nice to meet you.
