  1. What a dumb thread. Read what you like, even if people like me say its shit.
  2. First VN was Analogue: A Hate Story followed about a year later by Ever 17 I believe. I still read them occasionally but they usually have to stand out greatly, be an EVN, or be from someone I know for me to really pick one up and read now. Fuwanovel likely had little to do with VNs taking off in the west like they have over the past few years. I think the fact Fuwanovel got larger was due to an already existing interest in VNs in the western world. Fuwanovel is more an result of the popularity of VNs, not the cause. As for relevancy, I believe it can be like it was in the past. VNTS was very popular, and some of the information pages that were planned would be a boon. Hopefully these can be revived in the near future because I think Fuwanovel can still be a valuable resource for news, reviews, and guides with its current existing user base. I wasn't here at the very beginning, but Aaeru's goal was to create a visual novel repository of pre-patched VNs to make downloading and playing VNs far easier for people who were unwilling, or unable to install patches which required you to be able to find the VN in question, pirate it, and then get the patch from the fan TL website. Sometimes these patches were impossible to get as were the VNs, so Aaeru sought to make it easier for people to get those VNs by providing the torrents and a seedbox. The forums sort of got tacked on. She believed that by lowering the difficulty of acquiring VNs, more people would be interested in trying them out. Even her "What is a VN" page oversimplified what a VN was to target fans of anime/manga in hopes of getting them hooked.
  3. Noticing some interest in fuwahistory on a few threads, I'm bored, and I wanna spur some sort of discussion today. So, feel free to ask me anything about myself, VNs, old reviews, fuwanovel in general, etc. Note to mods: Not sure if Member's Lounge is fine for this. If not, or it gets super spammy, feel free to move it.
  4. can confirm. People are trying to revitalize the site but due to the centralized nature of the leadership its very slow going to get things done when the head honcho is in the middle of the wilderness curing cancer.
  5. The first rule of Fuwabundle is to not speak about Fuwabundle
  6. time to buy Please Bang my Wife for tay. He loves NTR
  7. The website went into its worst ever Fuwapocolypse because of her silliness. The site was literally done for until Tay stepped in, put ol Cybersteel and Steve in charge for a while as he did a bunch of behind the scenes work to bring it back fully and expand the site. For a while, Fuwanovel had very good relations with the localization companies and forged great contacts with them under Tay's leadership. It was Tay who placed people like Zaka and Decay in positions on the website to help bring an influx of activity and repair the VNTS. Meanwhile Aaeru vanished without a word, got us in big ass trouble by using a pirated version of the forum software, and left the site in shambles. I appreciate what she did starting the site, but its pretty clear to me that it greatly outgrew what she wanted and she likely did not approve of the direction the site was headed (hence her attempts to shut it all down later).
  8. The problem here isn't Valve banning the games. Fact of the matter is that it is their storefront and they can absolutely dictate what is allowed to be sold and what isn't. That falls completely under their rights as a company. The larger issue at hand is the absolutely inconsistent method that they use to dictate what can and can't be sold. We've seen over the past few months Steam go from not allowing 18+ patches, to allowing uncensored porn on steam, back to even nuking the games from orbit. Valve needs to set up a uniform policy here and stop flip flopping back and forth.
  9. Yes, but unless Tay shows up to hand keys over, there isn't much that can be done to it. From what I gather, Nay has already handed over much of what he can to the new person, but without the greenlight from Tay, its just stuck.
  10. i love how large parts of the VN fandom generally shits itself with rage any time a company comes in to legally release a a desired VN.
  11. Changing to JP locale can actually fuck with programs that like to auto-detect languages. My old MSI BIOS manager on my last PC would only display in Japanese until I was finally able to find the language settings as well as a few other installers for programs. Other than that, the actual programs run just fine. For what its worth, with the plethora of official releases, I don't bother with locale anymore.
  12. and of those, I think Danganronpa is the only one that didn't sell like shit, and thats only because its aesthetic appeals to the "omg i luv hot topic!" portion of the vn/gaming community. TL Note: Hot Topic is a retail store that caters to middle school girls with edgy clothing and anime toys.
  13. This isn't attack on the individual mods just FYI. This is more to point out the massive shortcomings of the current moderation system. Hell, even a quick link somewhere on the site with a clear, concise list of rules, and consistent enforcement from the mods would be an improvement over this vague, unclear, mystical system of globals, boards, and non-listed mods (such as myself).
  14. Send a PM to who? There is no leadership aside from Kaguya who rarely seems to be able to make a firm decision without input from the top, which doesn't exist anymore sadly. I've seen Kags step in before and attempt to resolve this problem, but clearly it has not been fixed (poor guy was on vacation too).
  15. This comes out of a warning I received for spamming in a thread that was technically not in chatter but was nothing as chatter (the dumb mare loli thread that got featured). My spam in question was a single post I made with a reaction image. It was my first post in weeks as well, hardly something needing that silly warning garbage, Clephas. This made me realize that there are two problems here. Severely uneven enforcement of rules by moderators (which has honestly been a chronic problem for Fuwanovel through its entire history), and secondly, I don't even know who the staff of the website even are anymore. I was never aware that Clephas had the ability to issue warnings like that, nor was I aware board mods had any power to give warnings. I was under the impression that they could delete/hide posts and what not but not cut off posting of a member completely for a time. That in of itself is not the issue. The issue is more that there is that the Fuwa Directory is completely out of date. I have no damn idea who does what, and who has what powers. To solve both problems, there needs to be a retooling of the entire staff of Fuwanovel. Take a look at the directory and point out all of those who are not active, or no longer even run the project they are listed in. https://fuwanovel.net/about/our-team-fuwadirectory/ With this retooling of the staff (aka clean out the dead weight like myself), strong leadership absolutely needs to come down from the top and make abundantly clear what the rules of the forum are. The uneven application of rules needs to stop and more active leadership with clear lines of communication need to be implemented. This will give the mods much clearer direction of what is and isn't okay on this website. And no, this isn't a batman bitches about a handslap post. This is a response to a recurring problem with the leadership of fuwanovel today as I've seen this inconsistent rule enforcement multiple times with certain mods recently, and it follows a pattern that goes back to the days of Steve being an admin here. Those were bad days.
