  1. Disclaimer : I'm only talking about true routes that needs to be unlocked in some way. A route that don't need to be unlocked and featuring the "main" heroine is not a True route for me, even if canonical (for example Ayu's route in Kanon). I feel that for any VN that is plot heavy, a true route is a good thing to have (unless you go the Fate way, which is much harder but can be really mindblowing if handled right). Giving a complete closure to the story is important since it gives satisfaction to the reader. Also, I don't really mind if the true route or true end is centered around one heroine as long as the main focus is still the story. (Steins;Gate, or G-Senjou) However, that's different for Charage, I feel that a canonical true route centered around a heroine is very risky, as if you dislike the true heroine, it can kinda ruin your experience of the game (The true route in Hoshi memo for example, which I felt was inferior to some of the normal routes, or even Symphonic rain last route which felt really inferior to Al fine). I prefer the way Grisaia is doing it, with every route being canonical so that it's the same for each heroine, or stuff like Little Busters or Rewrite, with a true route very plot centered, unlike the heroine routes.
  2. Little Busters Refrain route nearly brought me to tears, I mean, those feels + this music... Even when listening to the music now, I still have chills...
  3. We don't need one atm, but thanks for the proposal!

  5. A new update on our blog! Check it out here : http://lucid9.weebly.com/blog And since we're quite curious, a question : Which character seems the most appealing to you for the moment? (Without taking into consideration the difference in quality for the art between the drawings since only a lot of characters don't have their final sprites yet)
  6. This drawing is perfect ^^ Gekkan shoujo, hilarious even when you've already read the manga!
  7. The ending was a really nice touch for the VN. Probably the cherry on the top of the cake that makes the whole VN truly memorable.
  8. Welcome to fuwanovel! Hope we'll get along!

  10. I think it depends on what content you create. Also what do you mean by japanese setting, does it include characters tropes as well? Imo, japanese VN and stories more generally seems to put more emphasis on their characters, their growth, dilemmas, evolution through the story... I can't explain why, but I feel that japanese culture and settings kinda makes it easier to explore those themes. Western market kinda prefers game and stories very plot heavy and oriented (just look at the popular TV series, or even the newest games where you have more and more complex plots). And somehow, japanese settings kinda suck to participate in giving some mindblowing stories (I mean, fate could have happened in some other city in another country without any real difference, same goes for Rewrite I'd say). So I'd say, if your story is plot heavy, a japanese setting is more restraining if anything. If it's a character centered story, then I'm not sure...
  11. I do prefer lengthy common routes, but ONLY if characters interactions are interesting enough, and also I do prefer common routes that have some kind of plot progression, even if it's a minor thing. In Little Busters, I really appreciated the characters interactions and personalities, it was hilarious, and never really repetitive. All the different events, plus the different little "games" (Rin's investigations / battle, baseball minigame / Battle ranking) and the presence of an objective to reach in common (creation of the baseball team and beat the All Star team of the school) really made it that I never got bored once in LB. Rewrite common's route didn't feel as interesting as LB, maybe because I feel that some of the characters are less charismatic than in LB, but also the fact that their interactions as a whole group often felt awkward and not really that funny (it's kinda explained later on on the plot, but you really lack the complicity that makes the group of protagonist a hilarious crew that you want to follow anytime). It was still funny, mind you, but not on par as with LB. Fortunately, it kinda compensates with very nice universe presentation, and lot of clever foreshadowing concerning what happens after common. As for Grisaia, it's kinda of a hit or miss. If you love the characters, their personalities, and their hilarious interactions with each others (have to give props to the writers, they probably created some of the most interesting characters I've ever seen with personalities very unique, especially given the setting, school-life / slice of life, where it's kinda easy to rely on your everyday tropes), if you enjoy reading their dialogs, then the utter lack of plot development won't bother you at all. But if you don't LOVE them literally, even if you only find them alright or okay, you'll probably find the common route repetitive at some point and get bored. But I really feel characters personalities and interactions are the key. For example, I never really found the characters in Hoshi Memo that funny, nor do their interactions were that exciting. I got really bored during common, and I kinda had to force myself to play through it.
  12. We have a new website, with a project specific url, a new character page introducing the characters, and matching graphics with the VN theme! Check it out here : http://lucid9.weebly.com/
  13. Getting so hyped for this UBW anime adaptation! I remember Type-moon saying that they wanted to create something in the continuation of Fate/Zero (so probably the same themes), and I feel that UBW is the perfect fit for this. Happy as well for the HF movie, even though the format is obviously too short to fit in all of Heaven's feel route, I can understand that they don't want to take that much risks (what happens in the route might make some fans angry, and I'm not sure Sakura is receiving a lot of love as a heroine). Hopefully we'll get the Kara no Kyoukai format with 4 or 5 movies of one hour each.
  14. Update : Common route is about 80% written, and all the plot development for each heroine route has been planned. Ofc, we still have tons od efiting to do, and also rewrite some parts we are not totally satidfied with. Thanks to Greg, our new composer, music is progressing quite fast, don't forget to check the blog since we will post a sample of his work very soon! Greg will take care of mostly the emotional OST. Else, we are still working on character themes, and some of the ambiance tracks. You can check it on our latest blog post! Dizzy has finished working on the sprite of one heroine (Airi) as you can see on the original post! The uniform showed will be the default uniform for all the heroines! Wonders is working on the male characters concept art, and sprites should be done in the near future as well. Yuuko has been working on some GUI elements, and will start working on backgrounds soon. We might as well get another BG artist in the near future. PS : Can one of the moderator move this thread in the new section which seems more appropriate? Thanks in advance!

  16. As for me, I tend to believe that art is secondary to the story. If I enjoy the story, and if the art somehow displeases me, I'll make an effort for adapting myself (it was the case for Cross Channel and F/SN). I felt Steins;Gate art was really weird and unique at first, but the story was so good that the art eventually became in my mind a distinguishing feature of the VN. However, if I don't like the story, even beautiful art won't prevent me from dropping it (I'm thinking about If my heart had wings, which I found too slow paced and as a result a bit boring). If the VN has a slow start concerning the plot, good art makes it more tolerable to read until the plot starts to unfold. And ofc, if the VN has both good story and awesome art (someone mentioned Grisaia, and I totally agree with him), it leaves an even better overall impression on the reader.
  17. Hey kushiro! Welcome to the forums! If you liked Little Busters, you will most likely appreciate Rewrite, which was produced by the same studio. Grisaia no Kaijitsu is also in the same register as Little Busters. Enjoy your stay!
  18. Great! I will be able to start reading it soon then!
  19. Actually, I think it's really the biggest problem of MKnR, it suffers from the "perfect protagonist" syndrom. But still, what I do like is that the universe is very well thought and built, whether it is the geo-political matters that are explained in details in the Light Novel (unfortunately, the anime doesn't have the time to go over these details), or the way they explain and describe magic, which feels very scientific like (again, the explanations are shortened a lot in the anime).
  20. Just played through the demo. Good points : - The music and the ambiance sounds fits very well (However I can't stand the track they used for their trailer, which is kinda generic, but well, it's a matter of taste I guess.) - A very interesting choice system, who gives you more options than "choose your heroine". You often have the choice between three types of answer : Nice guy / Neutral or silent / Cocky and funny. When you get the right (or maybe should I say wrong?) choices, you often end up with some additional lines that can become very funny! You often end up saving quite a lot to see all the possible replies and interactions that vary depending on your answers. - As a result, a good replayability (coupled with quite a lengthy demo, you will need around 2 hours to complete the demo, a bit more if you want to see all the additional lines) - Credits as well for the time-limited battle choices, whether it is concerning kendo or fights. Really dynamic, and actually requires you some effort to read and process the information fast enough. - Great art, not outstanding but still very good for an OELVN. Animated sprites are always welcomed (at least, they didn't use some SUPER BOUNCING B00BS). - Writing is decent / good. I didn't notice any problem with grammar at my level of english, and I could enjoy the reading. The quality of the writing was within my expectations for an OELVN, so there's nothing for me to say. - A good sense of details some shadowed sprites for crowds and filler characters is still nice to have, as well as having them voiced. Debatable : - Voice acting, more particularly using japanese honorifics and sometimes words for the voice acting. I wasn't bothered too much by it (even though it sometimes didn't feel right, it was between passable and good most of the time). - Choices are sometimes a bit silly, and over the top, it might rub some people the wrong way if they don't really like this type of humor. I did find most of them pretty hilarious though. - For I who knew nearly nothing of Kendo, I was a bit conflicted. The explanations given to you are kinda vague, and it doesn't seem like any info you can grab on kendo during the discussions with the characters or during training is of any use during real-time fights (maybe the rest of the VN will prove me wrong though). Also the japanese vocabulary relative to kendo remained really obscure for me, even after explanation. - It would have been really interesting if the choices you made really did influence your personality on the long term, and how you interact with the other characters (The two choices with the uncle is a good example, depending on the choice the MC will whether talk casually or formally to the uncle all along the demo, and they could have use this kind of things more). But I understand that even if it sounds good in theory, it is really hard to put in in practice. Bad points : - The setting is overly cliched, it follows a precise trope which is already wildly used by any other anime / VN (Highschool setting with a pair of sibling transferring into a new city, MC has a hard time at school until he joins the Kendo club who is about to disband, and he will obviously become the savior of this club.) If you can't stand high school setting, well this VN is obviously not for you. - The characters suffer from the same problem as the setting, they are very stereotypical and each one of them follow an already known trope. There's probably room for character development, but given how much they are restrained by the setting, I don't expect much, even less anything that could be mind blowing. However, it doesn't mean the characters are necessarily bad or poorly written, despite the obvious tropes followed, I enjoyed and laugh at some of the characters lines / reactions. However, this is probably not the kind of VN where a heroine will hold a dear place in your heart for the rest of your life. Honorable mention to the sister who is quite adorable and is nowhere as annoying as most imoutos (*erm* CHINAMI *erm*). Also, I must admit that I felt some guilty pleasure for bullying the tsundere heroine, even if all her reactions were really predictable! - The MC is kinda bland, if not generic. It's pretty much the drawback of having choices that influence your own personality : the MC doesn't have a personality of his own, he has nothing that really stands out from the ordinary MC except for the choices, but again the choices don't really influence his personality. Also there might be some problem with consistency, you can as a douche and like a scumbag with a heroine, and one choice later be the nicest guy on earth, without the heroine being surprised by the inconsistency or anything (well if the player sticks down to only one attitude most of the time, this issue doesn't appear). - Also, the MC doesn't even has a name on his own either (which is kinda problematic when there's voice acting, because getting called "You!" all the time doesn't feel right) tl;dr : A VN that seems promising because it does distinguish itself from other OELVN with good art and some interesting concepts, and overall good quality. However, it does fall into the trap of wanting to be very "japanese-like", whether it is for the archi-overused plot or the characters archetypes, which will probably prevent the game from being a memorable one. Still, as long as you can stand high-school settings, the voice acting (or disable it if required), and if you are not annoyed by the use of cliche characters, the VN is quite enjoyable and surely worth a try, especially since they plan to release the game for free. EDIT : I do belive the trailer does kinda of a disservice to Kendo Crush, the use of "Oniiiiiiiichaaaan" that we can hear in the video happens only on a few occasions. Same goes for honorifics, only even if used, I didnt have an overdose of "-chan", "-sensei", "-kun", nor any "sempai" (yet). Also even if some CHOICES have some seemingly weaboo options, it's clearly more to give a good laugh. Even though the writers relies heavily on japanese tropes, doesn't mean they are weaboos, at least not to me. (compared to, hmm, Sakura Spirit *coughs*)
  21. Hi folks! So the project has been going well for the moment! We changed a bit our blog interface, since the previous one was quite... horrible. Don't forget to visit it to get the lastest news on the project! Concerning writing, We're nearly done with common route (around 75% I'd say), and we're really satisfied with how it's progressing so far. Art and music is showing progress, slowly but surely. You can find some of the tracks we already created here : http://vnchan.wordpress.com/music/ However we had some problems concerning backgrounds, so we are looking for people who'd be skilled with Photoshop and with shading (we are planning on using photoshopped pictures for backgrounds), so if you think you'd be able to help, don't hesitate!
  22. Bokura kawaisou never disappoints me! Ritsu is still as cute as ever (even cuter in this episode), and I find very funny how Usa is always getting turned on by Ritsu innocent reactions! XD Still I wonder if actual romance will develop, since it's already ep9, and there wasn't a lot of progress so far. Well, even if there isn't, I won't be mad, it was still very refreshing to have this kind of light-hearted slice of life comedy and romance anime, and without any drama or stupid love triangle (well, for now at least).
  23. EU west servers : pseudo : Diamonit I'm an old player, since I've played the game since season 1 (the good old times where Irelia was op as fuck, and Nocturne ult could make nearly all the map at rank 3... And when Eve had a stun! ) Tips for people wanting to experiment original stuff in the jungle : Try Twisted Fate jungle. AD. Really funny to pull, and your ganks are op as hell with the stun every 5 sec and ult. I think I carried all the games I had with him, even the one where I got my red buff countered! xD
