  1. Yeah, but they still aren't exactly "doing it alone". It seems that MoeNovel isn't "localization company" - it's just a brand name Pulltop uses to release EN versions of their games, while the translations are being done by AGM - so still "outside". But OTOH yes, they are publishing it themselves. Maybe the quality of AGM's translations will rise, as they apparently launched branch solely dedicated to VNs, called AFAIK "Yume Haven", but still they won't translate +18 content. ASFOS looked promising, but then the CrossChannel disaster happened, so AGM is still very random quality-wise. About the JAST history - you're right. And at least one of those ancient VNs - Sakura no kisetsu - is quite good Actually I didn't play Princess Waltz, being turned off by that dueling minigame/mechanic.
  2. From the games I played, recently I really liked Mirai from Koiiro. Also, Hikari and Saya from Miagete are kind of childhood friends for protagonist, and in this VN there are lenghty retrospections. If you can read untranslated, then you can read +18 version Konomi and Tamaki from ToHeart2 Ageha from Konosora Chiho from PrincessEvangile Hinata from NobleWorks Rina from Fureraba Runa and Yukino from Hatsukoi 1/1 Asumi from Heart de Roommate (kind of ) Main heroines from Majikoi (Miyako, Momoyo and Kazuko aka Wanko) could be considered too. The next one is put here half jokingly, but she was the first childhood friend heroine I experienced, and might be responsible for my affection towards them: Mikae from True Love
  3. Ok, so here's me and some keyboards (photos from two different events where I performed)
  4. And that was the only route that was readable . I then went onto Ageha's route and couldn't figure what was going on at all, and had to drop it unti retranslation patch came out. But then, it was before any h-scene would happen, so that might be due to bad translation rather than censoring itself. Nevertheless, considering main plot device of Ageha's route , it seems almost impossible to create good all-ages edition for this route. And littleshogun is right - to release +18 translations Pulltop/MoeNovel would have to change their translating contractor. I don't know if they can be convinced to do so... It would be nice if they hired JAST, MG or even Sekai to translate their games, but that seems unlikely.
  5. Ah, it may be so. Also, I agree with your 0-10 scale. Nice description. As for reasons somebody gets angry with poor TL released - it may be kind of "disservice" to such reader. I mean - if translation is hard to read, it may serioulsy dampen enjoyment and impact of the story, yet if one decides to wade through it to the end, the story may be "spoiled" for them, so then even if improved release would come out, damage is done and they may lose interest in a game. But yet again - my experience was different. I experienced only one such case - Konosora. I read Kotori's route from the initial release, then dropped it in the middle of Ageha's route. But when retranslation was released, I reread the whole thing, and enjoyed it. Ironically, in this case it was the official release that was bad, and fan-TL patch that fixed it, so the other way around Also, since I enjoyed Kotori's route even with bad original translation, and wasn't sure then when the patch would be released, that prompted me to start learning Japanese So, what can I say - when you detect signs of poor translation to the point that it gets in your way, better to drop the title and hope for better release in the future? Or, learn you-know-what-language
  6. Most of the times, yes, but not always. I bought almost all of my VNs that have official EN release, yet as for fan-TLs, the only one I was able to buy was "ONE" - others were either out of print (older titles like YU-NO) or several times pricier than typical EN release (Koichoco !) , often with only physical edition available (with compulsory "for sale in Japan only" disclaimer). If there was official english DL edition of, say, KoiChoco or ToHeart2 or whatever other "unofficial" title I have in my library - I'd buy it. But most of the time official JP versions are for abovementioned various reasons out of reach But thas was kind of OT for this thread, so please excuse me, and back to our regular programming
  7. I started reading untranslated よつばと!, as an aid for learning Japanese, and it looks really funny. I'm past first few (10 or so) pages, and I already like what I see - it's difficult not to smile, when I see little Yotsuba's enhtusiasm, smile and innocence. Very heartwarming. Say, isn't that smile contagious?
  8. Maybe we should produce different variants, like in that meme linked before?
  9. I had that feeling in Yuzuyu's route, but in others not so much. I especially liked Rina's route. Or, it's not even that. I wouldn't say that Yuzuyu lost flavour, but the route did. I liked her very much as a character, but route itself was dull, without any tension.
  10. So it look like Grisaia and S;G are leaders now, with Koiken Otome and E17 tied in the second place I think that I'll try to get back into reading mood going with something short (Harmonia or Lucy) and then pick up one of those bigger titles.
  11. Thanks everybody. Some really nice advice and pointers here
  12. Hi there, Recently I've hit a wall, or rather stumbled upon a crossroad - completely cannot decide what to read next. Here's my current backlog: https://vndb.org/u145694/list?c=all;v=0;t=0 (meaning, VNs that I already own, but haven't read yet) What should I pick now? (let's stick to the above list)
  13. How do you find it so far? I currently cannot decide what to read next, and Corona Blossom sits on my backlog...
  14. Ah, it requires VR headset. That's a bummer. Not for me then I typed my initial post from work, and there Steam site is blocked, so I couldn't check the details myself...
  15. Unless they break their contract with AGM and find different translating service, there is no chance for any translated +18 content from Pulltop/MoeNovel apart from fan-TLs.
  16. Hmm... my memory may be a bit hazy, but wasn't all that before they finally got together (scene in the railcar in the rain)? From what I remember, after that it was OK - but I have to admit, it happened pretty late in the route. However, her epilogue atoned for all those sins in a magnificent way
  17. So we're in agreement here IMO, scenes in KonoSora managed to maintain the balance, while in Miagete they were leaning too much on the "just porn" side for my taste. There were some good moments there, but overally I don't think I lost too much by reading +17 version.
  18. Considering how they proceeded with previous titles in Lovekami series - yes
  19. VN made by MyDearest. It looks like it was just released by Sekai - JP and EN versions simultaneously. https://vndb.org/v24442 https://vndb.org/v24443 What's this?
